President’s LetterWell,  we’re  at  it  again.    Since  the  2016  end-‐of-‐year  banquet  our  energies  have  been  spent  on  scheduling  contests  for  this  year.    We  presently  have  ten  contests  on  the  calendar  and  another  in  the  wings.    Our  first  contest  is  in  Charleston  (Low  Country  Shag  Classic)  March  31-‐April  01.    The  contest  schedule  as  we  know  it  right  now  is  listed  elsewhere  in  the  newsleLer.    (There  are  some  changes  relaNve  to  the  iniNal  calendar  sent  out  earlier.)

CSA  is  planning  another  scoring  workshop  this  year  to  explain  the  scoring  system,  how  placements  are  calculated  and  why  you  see  what  you  do  on  your  score  sheets,  and  a  judging  workshop  primarily  to  give  an  overview  of  the  five  categories  on  which  we’re  judged.

We  have  several  proposals  we’re  going  to  study  in  an  effort  to  make  CSA  stronger  including  sponsorships  with  increased  payouts  per  division,  more  adverNsing  coverage  and  possibly  capping  the  number  of  contests  per  year  so  we  can  concentrate  on  increasing  dancer  aLendance  at  those  contests.    All  these  issues  will  involve  a  great  deal  of  planning,  discussion  and  ulNmately  input  from  the  CSA  membership  itself,  so  be  paNent…………….we’ll  do  what  we  can  as  Nme  permits.

One  change  this  year  is  our  switch  to  using  flash  drives  (thumb  drives/zip  drives/flash  sNck……whatever)  in  lieu  of  CDs  for  our  music.    It  seems  with  technology  running  rampant,  some  contest  venues  no  longer  have  CD  capability.    There  will  be  an  effort  to  not  only  list  the  DJ  for  each  contest  on  the  flyer,  but  to  find  out  prior  to  the  contest  which  format  the  DJ  prefers.    We  will  try  to  keep  the  membership  informed  of  the  preferred  (or  necessary)  format  before  each  contest.    Butch  Metcalf  is  DJing  our  first  contest  in  Charleston,  so  bring  your  music  on  a  flash  drive  (thumb  drive/zip  drive/flash  sNck……whatever).

If  you  haven’t  renewed  your  CSA  membership  by  the  Nme  you  read  this,  get  out  your  checkbook  ‘cause  it’s  gonna  cost  you  more  -‐  $30  per  person.    And  remember  non-‐members  pay  more  this  year  to  dance:    $5  Amateur,  $10  Novice  and  $20  Pro/Senior  Pro.    So,  get  your  membership  renewed  and  save  yourself  some  money  in  the  long  run.    You  can  pay  via  PayPal  or  give/mail  your  payment  directly  to  Patricia  Joyce.    ApplicaNons  should  be  given/mailed  to  Patricia.    (Board  members  have  been  instructed  NOT  to  handle  payments  or  applicaNons.)

CSA  was,  as  usual,  well  represented  at  Preliminaries  for  the  NaNonal  Shag  Dance  Championships  this  past  weekend.    Thanks  to  all  who  parNcipated  and  good  luck  to  those  who  will  be  dancing  in  the  finals  09-‐11  Mar17.

Remember,  keep  your  basics  in  good  working  order  and  everything  else  will  follow…………..
