    From the Pastor:

The readings today focuses on relying on God and being persistent in doing so. Here’s a prayer from Blessed Charles Foucauld that will help us in this constant work of faith:

Lord, teach us to pray without ceasing, without losing a moment! Teach us to pray for ourselves, and still more for our neighbor, because “it is better to give than to re-ceive.” Help us to pray and to ask without being afraid to beg for even the greatest graces. The greater our peti-tions the more they will be worthy of being heard by you; they will demonstrate our faith, that faith which you de-sire of us. They will be one with your will, since you have in your heart the desire for the sanctification of all man-kind.

You teach us to ask… for your glory, for the conversion of men and for our own, for the perfect fulfillment of your will in us and in all men, for the Holy Eucharist and for grace for all men, for pardon for our sins and for those of others, help against temptations, deliverance from every sin, from every true evil in this life and in the next…. This, O Lord, is what you always want us to ask, this you will always grant us if we ask it of you with faith.

    Amen.

    God bless your week.

With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

The Pilgrimage Statue of Our Lady of Fatima is visiting

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish to honor her during

October, the month of special devotion to the Rosary

We urge you to find some time to pray the Rosary as often as possible, espe-cially during this month. The statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be in the Chapel, Monday morning through Friday after the 12:30 Mass at which time she will be returned to the Church to be with us for weekend Masses. On Friday, October 21, there will be recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM , with the Sacrament of Rec-onciliation available also beginning at 7:00 PM. A Healing Mass will be offered at 7:30 PM in the Church.

Recitation of the Rosary, Mass and a farewell procession will bring her visit to a close on Friday, October 28 beginning at 7 PM .

This year, this beautiful devotion will be dedicated to the memory of Felicia Geraldi who was instrumental in bringing Our Lady of Fatima to us.

Please mark your calendar now and join us in this beautiful devotion.

The Parish of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is excited to announce that we will begin the new church year on November 27 with all new, hardcover Missals which include the three liturgical cycles and permanently replace the paper ones which must be reor-dered each year.

Parishioners will have the opportunity to help defray the cost of these beautiful new books by donating or dedicating a copy in memory of a loved one. Names will be engraved on a thin plaque mounted inside the front cover. The named individu-als will then be prayerfully remembered by the every parishioner using the Missal at each Mass.

Please complete the form below and return it with your tax-deductible check of $50 made out to OLSH, one form for each book you would like to dedicate. Additional forms may be found at the back of the church or in the rectory. There are a limited number of Missals available. Parish response has been wonderful. Please note that donations will be accepted until Nov. 1 or until all Missals are reserved, whichever occurs first.

Be Safe at Home! OLSH FALL

    PREVENTION WORKSHOPS

According to the Office on the Aging ...

“Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans. Falls threaten seniors’ safety and independence and generate enormous economic and personal costs. However, falling is not an inevitable re-sult of aging. Through practical lifestyle adjustments, evidence-based fallprevention programs, and clinical-community partnerships, the number of falls among seniors can be substantially reduced.”

Sponsored by the parish Liturgy, Learning and Outreach Committee, OLSH parishioner Joseph Napoli ( MS Occu-pational Therapy) will be presenting two half-hour Fall Prevention workshops on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 1:15 PM and 7:30 PM. There will be time for questions after each session.

Whether you are a senior citizen, an adult who lives alone or someone who has older relatives you wish to help keep safe and independent, THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU!

Please join us in the OLSH Parish Hall on October 18.

“Shawls ... made for centuries universal and

embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, uncondi-

tionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, com-

fort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter

and beautify. Those who have received these

shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if

given wings to fly above their troubles..." Written in

A Prayer Shawl Ministry is beginning at OLSH!

The mission of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is to offer Prayer Shawls to those who are in need of comfort and/or healing. The Shawls are made in prayer and with love by parishioners. They are blessed, and then presented to members of the community. The shawls remind the recipient of the love of God and the caring, support and love of our parish community.

The group will meet on Thursday evenings at 7 PM at the rectory to knit or crochet shawls. No experience necessary! Donations of yarn welcome! If you are interest-ed, contact Rose Gavigan at [email protected] or 845-304-7218

Guidelines for Reserving Masses We are happy to share that the guidelines for reserving Masses now in place have made it possible for many more members of our parish family to remember their loved ones on days and dates that are meaningful for them. Your understanding and support is sincerely appreciated. In the Christian spirit of loving and helping each other, please note the following: 1. With the agreement of both persons who are requesting a Mass, the Mass can be offered for TWO intentions. When you come

to the rectory to request a Mass you will be asked if you would agree to sharing that Mass with someone else for whom that day is significant. If you do, a note will be made in the Mass book. The Mass is a most powerful prayer and God will bless your kindness, understanding and generosity of spirit.

    2. During the first week the Mass book is open, M - F, an individual or household may reserve up to three weekend Masses. There is no limit on the number of reservations for weekday Masses, including Saturday at 9 AM.

    3. You may call the rectory (359-1230) during business hours ( 9 am—3 pm ) to reserve a Mass and then follow up with your donation. Please remember, however, that when the Mass book first opens there may be significant wait time as the secretary attends to those in the office.

    406-5

Yarn donations needed for our new Prayer Shawl Ministry! Please bring your yarn to the rectory any weekday, be-tween 9 AM and 3 PM.

    What does Mercy look like?

Each month during this Year of Mercy we will focus on one of the Spiritual and Cor-poral Works of Mercy and share ways

each of us might integrate them into our daily lives.

    For the month of October:

Corporal Work of Mercy: Visit the Sick

Week 3: Offer an hour or two of respite to some-

one who cares for a chronically sick or elderly

    family member.

Spiritual Work of Mercy: Forgiving Injuries

Week 3 : Participate in the Sacrament of Recon-

    ciliation
