Munzhelele further indicated that those who arrived at his house in the morning identified the creature as a tokoloshe. “I cannot dispute that, because I have never seen such an animal in my entire life. The fact that I was told that it would kill me if I did not kill it first, shows that it has to do with witchcraft, and I am just happy that God revealed this to me before it could happen.” He added that he had seen the power of prayers. “...this will make me revere God all the time and rely on prayer,” he said. “We are not part of the new municipality” - traditional leadersWell-known traditional leaders, which included Thovhele Ntumeni Masia, Thovhele Nesengani, Tho-vhele Davhana and representatives from Thovhele Netshimbupfe, as well as many traditional leaders serving under the four chiefs, took part in a protest march last Friday, demanding that their areas be ex-cluded from the newly envisaged fourth municipality.

The protesters also sent a petition to the Municipal Demarcation Board, dissociating them from presentations made on March 21 at the Thohoy-andou Indoor Sports centre that the people of Vuwani wanted Vhembe to have four municipalities. This follows the de-establishment of the Mutale Local municipality.

Leading the march last Friday, Thovhele Masia submitted a petition to the Municipal Demarcation Board that he and other traditional leaders around Vuwani and their people did not want to belong to a new munici-pality that would include his area and Malamulele. He criticised members of the Vuwani Demarcation task team

who submitted that they would like to meet with the people of Malamulele and be part of the new municipality.

“Let them go,” said Masia, re-ferring to those who wanted to mix with the Malamulele people in the proposed new municipality. Masia said his people had nothing to do with the Vuwani Demarcation task team, a combination of community structures that made a submission to the public hearings held by the board in Thohoyandou.

The Vuwani Sanco Clusters, how-ever, criticised the chief and sided with the presentations made by the Vuwani Demarcation Task team. During these presentations, Velly Mtileni of the Vuwani Demarcation Task Team said that the people of Wards 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7 in the Makhado Municipality wanted Vhembe to have a fourth municipality.

Mtileni said recent marches by the people of Waterval in Makhado and the people of Malamulele in Thulamela showed that three munic-ipalities would not be able to service the entire area of the Vhembe District

Municipality. Mtileni said Vuwani was a neglected area and the town did not have a single shopping complex.

“We have been neglected, just as the Malamulele towns of Saselamani and Malamulele were neglected by the Thulamela Municipality, and together we will be able to develop

our areas with the new municipality,” said Mtileni.

At the hearings, Chief Masia sub-mitted that he and other traditional leaders wanted to remain in the Makhado Municipality, because they were witnessing a lot of development here.

Charges withdrawn against ritual murder accusedThe parents of a man who was arrested a year ago and linked to the ritual murder of a relative expressed relief after all charges against him were withdrawn last week.

Mr Desmond Nemushungwa (30) of Maniini, an information officer at Tshilidzini Hospital, was arrested after the brutal ritual murder of his sister, Mercy Ndou of Tshitavha. Her mutilated body, with some parts missing, was found in the bushes at Tshitavha in June 2014. A traditional healer, Nelason Baloyi, was also charged in connection with the case. He is still in custody and the case against him will continue.

Both Nemushungwa and Baloyi have appeared in the Makuya and Thohoyandou Magistrate's Courts on several occasions. Nemushungwa was granted bail of R8 000 in September 2014.

Speaking after the charges were withdrawn in the Tshaulu Periodical Court, his father, Rev Jabulane Monegi, said that the withdrawal was a relief to the family. “The matter was dividing the family and we are now happy that it has come to an end and his name has been cleared. We just expect the community to do justice to him and respect the decision of the courts and let his life continue."

He added that nothing had changed. "As we said before, we are not taking sides and will accept the ruling of the court. It is now time for us to give all possible support to our son,” he said.

Nemushungwa said he bore no grudges against anybody as he had maintained that he was inno-cent all along. “I have said time and again that I

was not responsible for my sister’s brutal slaying, but people kept on blaming me. I have had enough of people pointing an accusing finger at me. Now that the courts have vin-dicated me, I am free in my soul and expect people to respect the courts. I did not kill my sister,” he said.

He said the matter was putting a

strain on him, "but I waited for God to make a revelation rather than argue with people.

My name has been tarnished and my personality crucified and assassinated for something that I did not do."

Baloyi will appear in court again on 30 June.

The Hlanganani Magistrate's Court sent the 55-year-old murder accused, Johannes Mutavhatsindi (photo) of Mpheni, for mental observation when he appeared in court last Thursday. It is alleged that Mutavhatsindi chopped and killed his friend with an axe a fortnight ago. According to Waterval police spokesperson Const Cynthia Ndou, Mutavhatsindi was enjoying traditional beer with his friend George Manyatsha (62) in his house. "Later, community members saw Manyatsha lying face down on the ground near the accused's house. He had been chopped with an axe twice in the head and died."

Alleged murder-suicide shocks community of Ha-MashauAn alleged murder-suicide has left the community of Ha-Mashau Mat-sindevhe speechless, after the body of a well-known pensioner was found hanging at his house, while the body of his young girlfriend was found in a pool of blood. Their bodies were found last Thursday at Mashau.

The deceased are a pensioner, Mr Samuel Mudau (65), and his 19-year-old girlfriend, Zwiafana Mulaudzi. Mudau was known as Big Bomb and Miss Mulaudzi was a Grade 12 pupil at Nwaredi High .

The incident left the community and the family with many unanswered questions. The spokesperson for the Levubu police, W/O Solly Mukhola, confirmed the incident. “We suspect that the incident might have happened on Wednesday. When we were called last Thursday, we discovered Zwiafa-na's lifeless body inside the house.” He added that Mudau was hanging from the roof..

"It appeared that the man had killed his girlfriend before he committed suicide. We discovered a panga lying next to Zwiafana´s body."

He added that the police had

opened a case of murder and they had also opened an inquest docket. "We do not know whether the man committed suicide after killing his girlfriend or whether they were both killed by someone else. Investigations are still continuing to determine what had really happened," said Mukhola.

He is calling upon all people who might be having marital problems to consult the social workers for coun-selling, rather than resorting to killing each other. “We were so baffled when we heard that the two of them had died,” said one of Zwiafana's school-mates. Zwiafana sister, Ms Wendy Malaudzi, said that the family was unable to accept the loss. “It is really painful. She was still young and did not deserve to die like that,” she said. She added that the family had still expected a lot from Zwiafana. “She was very focused on education, and I expected her to complete her studies, so that she could help the family.”

Zwiafana left a three-year-old girl, who was fathered by Mudau.

According to the family members, the two will be laid to rest at the Mashau cemetery tomorrow (Sat-urday).

LAST FEW DAYS!

Tuesday, 5 May, saw the culmination of the preliminary testing done by the Eyes for the World team sponsored by Agora Belgium and Louis Trichardt.

The Eyes for the World team recently visited several schools in the Elim area to test and help improve children’s vision by supplying them with spectacles free of charge.

The schools tested were Ozias Davhana, Masun-gulo Primary and Elim Primary. In total, 1 068 children were tested, of which 60 received specta-cles on the day from Eyes for the World. Twelve children were identified for specialist testing from Specsavers.

Eleven of the 12 children identified for specialist testing were screened at Specsavers in Louis Trich-ardt. Of these, one child needs an eye specialist and could not be helped with spectacles. The other 10 will all receive spectacles that will improve their quality of life. The 12th child’s parents decided to take him for treatment to their specialist of choice.

All testing and spectacles given on the day were sponsored by the local Specsavers branch. “I felt honoured to be a part of this project,” said Sanrie du Plessis of Specsavers.

All of the children who received glasses were diagnosed with short-sightedness and astigma-tism, among other complications. One child, Achievement Mathebule, has instability in his eye muscle (nystagmus) which causes his eyes to

Follow-up treatment helps restore children’s visionmove constantly.

He is also short sighted and has astigmatism. Du Plessis could help him achieve just under 50% vision with glasses, from less than 10% without. Another child, Maano Munzhelele, got the sap of a Naaboom (Candelabra) into his eye as a little boy, causing serious chemical burning to the cornea and resulting in total blindness in one eye. “With spectacles, he has 30% vision in his good eye and will receive hard lenses (contact lenses) to see if his vision can be more improved. Ultimately, Maano needs a cornea transplant,” said Sandy van Niekerk of Agora international and also a member of the local Agora Club.

Some of the children needed eye drops and ointments for eye infections. These were purchased with the funds generously donated to Agora Club Louis Trichardt by the Louis Trichardt community.

“A special thank you to the headmasters and educators of the three schools involved. Their obvious care and concern for their learners are commendable and heartwarming. Thanks also to Ms Nelly Tlakula (provincial Department of Education) for her enthusiastic support for this project and without whom the project would not have taken place,” said Sandy. She added that this had been one of the most rewarding projects that she had ever been involved in and is enthusiastic about taking the project forward in the future. “A special thanks to Agora Club Louis Trichardt who

has bought into this project 100% and given it their all,” said Sandy.

Ms Alilali Mutumba celebrated her 97th birthday during an event organised by her children and grandchildren at Madombidzha Zone 2 on Saturday. Many chiefs around Sinthumule joined the celebrations.

Friends and relatives gathered at Phiphidi Waterfalls at Phiphidi outside Thohoyandou last weekend for Fulu Netshikhudini's baby shower. After the formal programme, guests were treated to five-star catering and drinks with music accompanying the good food. In the photo are the guests and the expectant mother.

Well-known businessman Mr Benedict Tshinavhe recently made cash donations to several organisations in the area. He is the founder of Benlewis Legal Services and, during his company’s 11th year celebrations, Tshinavhe invited his clients, family and other stakeholders where he splashed more than R50 000 in cash on his guests. The Revelation of Christ Church at Tshiheni received R5 000 from Tshinavhe. In our photo, he and his staff cut the huge cake during the event.

Ligege Secondary School pupils show off their new netball uniform. Also sharing the joy are the principal, Mr Eric Matodzi (left), and Ms Lorette Louw of NTK.

A number of Limpopo schools started the new year on a sound footing after receiving nearly half a million rands in spon-sorships from a local company.

NTK Mills Potgietersrus has taken 24 Limpopo schools under its care and is sponsoring them with soccer and netball kits.

Besides encouraging them to participate in sport, the company is also encouraging the pupils to take their education seriously by awarding certificates to those who excel during their semester examinations.

Project marketing manager Ms Lourette Louw said the company had identified education and sport as catalysts that could bring change in communities, especial-ly in rural areas. “For this year

alone, we are sponsoring sports kits and educational support to 24 schools in Limpopo and this amounts to more than R40 000 per school. This is just for Phase 1 of the project, which is only do-nations. Phase 2 will be schools competing in tournaments, fea-turing the sponsored schools."

She expressed the hope that they will be able to bring back discipline to the schools and in-still a culture of learning among the pupils. "We know that the youth are the future of this coun-try and they need to be nurtured and guided earlier on in life."

In Vhembe, the NTK crew members were warmly wel-comed when they arrived at Ligege, Tshipakoni and Tho-hoyandou secondary schools.

Tshepo Ndou (20), a Grade 10 pupil at Tshipakoni Secondary in Vuwani, said they were very grateful for what NTK had done for them.

Ligege Secondary's principal, Mr Eric Matodzi, said the equip-ment and the certificates would make a huge difference at the school. “Ligege is a school that takes sport very seriously and we have won many competitions. The new equipment will just give us new momentum and motivate us to do even better. Many more of our pupils will now be able to take part in soccer and netball."

"With the certificates, a sense of competition has started among the pupils and this will improve results at our school," he said.

The Minister of Communi-cations, Ms Faith Mutham-bi, commended the town of Musina for its ability to live in peace and harmony with foreign nationals.

Muthambi led a campaign against xenophobia in Musina and the Beit Bridge port of entry. The three-step event started with a peace prayer at the Skoonplaas Stadium, followed by an interaction session with foreign nationals at the port of entry and was wrapped up with a “stakeholder engagement session” at Musina the show-ground.

The mayor, Cllr Mihloti Ram-oyada, said the municipality was proud to form part of the united front against the attack on foreign nationals who are based in South Africa. “Musina has been known for its generosity of living with foreign nationals for many years. This is irrespective

of the town’s strategic location as one of the busiest port of en-tries into the country. Since its establishment in 1905, no single incident of xenophobia has ever been reported in this town.

This means that Musina has a good story to tell,” said Ram-oyada.

Muthambi said: “We are here today to consolidate the call by the government to play a mean-ingful role in the fight against the attack on foreign nationals in our country.

The recent wave of violence against foreign nationals that erupted in some South African towns left the country in cha-os and such events should be condemned by all means in this democratic country.”

She added that the attacks went against the democratic values enshrined in the Con-stitution and stated that many foreign nationals were living

in South Africa legally and meaningfully contributing to the country’s economic and so-cial development. “In instances where foreign nationals are in the country illegally or are in-volved in criminal activities, we call on all citizens to provide this information to the police. No frustration or anger can justify the attacks on foreign nationals and the looting of their shops. We are happy and proud that we don’t have such things here in Musina.”

She said the South African government condemned this violence in the strongest possi-ble terms.

“The attacks violate all the values that South Africa em-bodies, especially the respect for human life, human rights, human dignity and ubuntu. These attacks are unacceptable and should not be tolerated by any of us,” she added.

Tendani Mukoma and Thiko Ravhuhali are seen here with their mentor, Mrs Jane Marageni.

Two pupils from Tshiozwi Primary School, Thikho Ravhuhali (11) and Tendani Mukoma (13), are set to participate in the Children’s Peace and Empowerment Forum National Evaluation Meeting this weekend.

It will take place at the Pavilion Hotel in North Beach, Durban.

Thikho and Tendani qualified to go to Durban during the local debate contest which was recently held at Munzhedzi village.

“I am excited about going off to Durban, where I will definitely learn new things and experience the local culture,” Thikho said.

“I hope all the knowledge which I will gain during the interaction with youths from other prov-inces will be of value to me in future.”

The girls’ mentor and a teacher at the school, Mrs Jane Marageni, said it was not easy for her pupils to qualify for the event.

“They had to battle it out against other many pupils from different schools,” she said.

“In debates like these, children are required to

Tshiozwi pupils to participate in debatedemonstrate knowledge, understanding of their social environment and communication abilities while discussing different aspects given to them.”

Marageni added that she was also glad that Thik-ho and Tendani had proven debate competency from school level until when they had met other different schools.

She described the two girls as focused and dedicated pupils who also took their school work seriously.

More traffic wardens to work in Musina

Pastor Collins’ vision becomes reality after two years

The appointment of 11 traffic wardens by Musina Munici-pality is starting to bear fruit as law enforcement is getting tighter in Musina town on a daily basis.

Due to its strategic location as a border town, traffic flow and human movement can sometimes become difficult. Among other things and duties, the traffic war-dens monitor controlled parking areas, maintain rules of loading or unloading areas, watch for parking offenses, issue notices of penalty to offenders, report offenses which can sometimes require court appearances to pro-vide evidence against offenders and ensure that vehicles have up-to-date registrations.

Municipal spokesperson Wil-son Dzebu says the well-trained traffic wardens are already mak-ing progress in the implemen-tation of bylaws in the town. “Offenders who do not adhere to the municipal bylaws are already feeling the heat and are subjected

to the strongest legal disciplinary action. We will not hesitate to take any necessary legal action against perpetrators. We are aware that there are countless illegal activities taking place here in our town, but it is now clear that the days of the offenders are numbered.”

Dzebu says the municipality is satisfied that people who are conducting their businesses in prohibited areas are now facing the wrath of the law.

“As a responsible municipal-ity, governed by the laws of the country, we will make sure that those who break those laws are punished. We know the poverty levels of our people and high unemployment rate, but the law is there to regulate the smooth running of our town. The safety of our people is our priority,” he added. He also mentioned that, due to cross-border trading, Mu-sina was growing very fast “and we need to pull up our socks to make sure that we do not scare

away shoppers, investors and tourists.” According to him, the government has also declared the town as one of Limpopo’s growth points “and due to the massive economic developments and mining, we will be a city in the next few years. So, it is very important to enforce law and order before it is too late.”

He said people who would like to conduct businesses in town, whether small or commercial, should contact the planning unit of the municipality. “There are guidelines to be followed and if people have the necessary ap-proval, nobody will bother them. I appeal to everyone to work hand in hand with us to make Musina a better place to stay.”

One of the recently appoint-ed traffic wardens, Mr Branco Maripa, said that he was happy to contribute to the development of the town. “I will continue to work hard to make sure that law enforcement becomes a daily occurrence in this town.”

In a vision that he saw two years ago, Pastor Collins Nthangeni of the Bride of Christ Fellowship Church at Tshiren-zheni in Nzhelele Limpopo saw children from disadvantaged backgrounds gath-

what it meant and what to do. He said the ig-nored it, but the vision kept coming back until he could not withstand it anymore.

“I prayed to God that He should reveal to me what the vision was all about and, one day while I was standing next to the church, God gave the revelation that I should start a Drop-In Centre that would help the local commmuni-ties,” he said. Nthangeni further indicated that he went out and sought information about reg-istration and all the formalities for such an organization.

The vision became a reality last weekend when many came from near and far to witness the official launch of Centre of Hope. The centre, started in Feb-ruary this year, has 589 children.

“Children are given food and we help them with their school work from Monday to Friday. This is the small contri-

bution we are making to the communities around us. We are giving hope to all who enter through the gate, and they go out empowered.

“We are not funded and this makes

things difficult for us and we will accept any help from all Good Samaritans,” he said. The local traditional leader, Moffat Mulaudzi, commended Nthangeni and described him as a light in his village.

“The time has come for us to eradicate poverty by creating projects, instead of just saying there are no jobs,” said a local dressmaker, Elisa Mp-funi of Smokie in the Nzhelele area.

During an interview with Limpopo Mirror, Elisa shared her secret recipe for success “Hard work, effective time management and proper customer care will make you go places.” She taught herself dressmaking skills, because she was determined to defeat the scourge of unemployment and poverty.

Elisa explained that her love for sewing and de-sign began at the age of 15, when she used to watch her gogo alter and make clothes for the family.

Today, Elisa is her own boss and she has emerged as the toast of Vhembe because of her creativity. Elisa pro-vides world-class ser-

vice to her clients and prefers to use the indigenous Vhavenda, Bapedi and Tsonga fabrics as means of showcasing their heritage to the world.

Her busines is producing products such as handbags, cushion covers, duvet sets, table cloths, traditional Vhavenda dresses (minwenda) and wall hangers.

When asked what advice she had for other women, she said: “Stand up and take charge of your lives. It’s high time we took back control. Don’t depend on a man.” Elisa said that happiness came first in her life, despite the challenges she sometimes faced.

“Managing family life and running a business are not easy, but I make sure that I do what makes me happy,” she said.

“I chose to design traditional clothes because I realised that in the Biaba complex there aren’t many shops that sell this kind of attire.”

The prolifi c 2011 South Afri-can Traditional Music Award (SATMA) winner, Jininka, is confi dent that she will win the Film, Arts, Music Enter-tainment (FAME) SA Awards trophy tomorrow (Saturday) evening at the University of Limpopo Turfloop Campus. Jeanette Nkanyane (her real name) is nominated in the Best Traditional Tshivenda Artist category.

Jininka, who is presently busy in the studio recording her sixth album, says it is an honour for her to be nominated for this inaugural award. “Being nomi-nated is a very important thing to me and taking the award home will be a bonus. I will dedicate the award to my fans who have been supporting me for many years. I encourage all my fans to continue voting for me as many times as possible by sending the number 36 to 47052 at R2 per sms.”

Jininka’s producer and the founder of Masana Records, Victor “Da Vic” Nemungadi, is confi dent that Jininka will win

the award. “I have worked with her for many years and she is a very good musician. I have no doubt that she will continue her winning spree and put Masana Records on the map again.”

Since her fourth album, Ndi Muvenda, for which she won the SATMA, Jininka’s music has gone to another level and she is undoubtedly one of the best Afro Pop artists Limpopo has ever produced. Many have tried to copy her soothing voice but failed because she is so unique and differently gifted.

It has been a long and winding road for Jininka to be where she is today. She was born at Ha-Ravele outside Louis Trichardt and started her music career in 1992 at the age of 10 in a church choir. In 1993, she joined a community choir, The Holy Servants Choir, and they used to perform at funerals, parties, weddings and com-munity gatherings. In 2004, Jininka moved to Gauteng and started working with her cousin, Humbulani Ramagwedzha, as a backing vocalist. She was then

introduced to Masana Records, where she recorded her fi rst Afro Pop album, Love Life, in 2005.

“I was surprised by its instant success, but I did not let fame go to my head. I became artist of the week on both Phalaphala FM and Univen FM. I knew there was lot of work ahead and I continued to build up my career by rehearsing on a daily basis.”

In 2007, Jininka worked with Mukosi Netshiheni on her sec-ond album. This time, it was a reggae offering, called Nne Na Inwi (You and I). The album was nominated for the South Afri-can Traditional Music Awards (SATMA) in the best female and best new comer categories, but it did not make it to the fi nals. “The fact that I was nominated was a fulfi llment to me and it encour-aged me to work hard,” she said.

In 2009, she released her third Afro Pop album, Ni Wanga (You are mine), which was again nominated for the SATMA in the best female category. Her fi fth album, Ndi Lwendoni, still continues to make waves in the local music industry.

“Listen to Madiba and exercise ...” Successful sports day at Wayeni village“Sport is an important vehicle to cause harmonious interac-tion between people,” said Mr Falaza Mdaka, Chief Whip of the Limpopo Legislature during a sports day at Wayeni last Monday.

Elderly and young people participated in tug-of-war, a fun walk, volleyball, netball, soccer and “bondelsport”. Mdaka said he was proud of the quality of

sports development in Wayeni and that there was a need to encourage the youth to become engaged in sports. He indicated that the youth must involve themselves in participating in different sporting codes. “Sport and education are the key for the future of our youth,” he said. He requested the youth to stay away from crime and alcohol and to be aware of the threat of HIV/Aids.

According to the organiser, Mr Philly Baloyi, the main purpose of the sports day was to unify the elderly and young people of Wayeni and surrounding areas.

The issue of health among the elderly also formed part of the programme as the sports are also part of exercising. “It is in these events where people learn how to organize themselves,” added Baloyi.

Veteran politician and former member of parliament Ms Tovhowani Tshivhase said for-mer president Nelson Mandela had taught them to exercise as a way of keeping their health intact.

The ageing Tshivhase, who is now a businesswoman, led by example when she took part in the 10km fun walk organized by the Tshifhiwa Muofhe 103 Freedom Day Celebrations at the weekend.

Many residents from Itsani and the surrounding villages out-side Thohoyandou in Limpopo took part in the fun walk, which ended at the Medium Wave

Towers next to Tshisahulu..Tshivhase said freedom

wiould mean nothing when people continued to die of dis-eases that could otherwise be overcome merely by exercising. “Many of our people are dying as a result of lifestyle diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure, which sometimes do not even need a doctor but just exercise. We have to encourage our people to take care of their health just like Madiba did when he was on Robben Island,” she said. She added that it was sad to see Africans segregating them-selves according to language and countries of origin. “We say no

to the scourge of xenophobia, which continues to wreak havoc in our communities, Africans killing and looting from each other,” she said.

One of the organizers, Mr Jackson Mabasa, said they felt they should celebrate Freedom Day in a unique way by reaching out to the whole community. “We wanted the whole commu-nity to be involved and one thing that came to our minds was the health of our people. We hope what we did today will always linger in their minds and they will not need anybody to remind them to do their exercises,” he said.

Taking a step towards a healthy body, Itsani residents walk a 10 km stretch during the Freedom Day celebrations.

Draw for Home Defenders and StarsThe two Safa MMK Admin-istrator Stream E league con-tenders, Mpheni Home De-fenders and Makhitha Oscar Stars, played to 2-all draw at Mpheni on Saturday.

The match was played under protest as Defenders alleged that Stars had fi elded two defaulters, Rof-hiwa Mabila and Eliot Nethulwe. Defenders alleged that the two players played for Joe Express in the Safa ABC League.

Defenders were cooling the ball down in the middle of the park, giving their op-ponents no chance to do as they pleased. Mushe Lisoga opened the score in the second minute after receiving a beautiful pass from Dakalo Nwanamid-wa. Defenders' strik-er, Melvin Mabatha, could not display his normal impressive skills as Itani Selota tightly marked him.

Defenders should have scored their sec-ond goal when Aar-on Lisoga forced his way through and shot wide from the far left corner. Stars scored t h r o u g h T h u s a n i “Mbevha” Luvhengo, who finished with a header after a Ntha-biseng Makgopo cross. The half-time score was 1-1.

In the second half, Stars showed no re-spect for their oppo-nent and matched them pound for pound in all departments. Stars scored their second goal via Rhulani Ma-ringa in the 58th min-ute. Rinae Salani, the

Defenders' keeper, suffered the pain of watching the ball go beyond his reach. Their cele-bration cut short, Itani Selota of Stars handled the ball inside the penalty area and the referee

pointed to the white spot. Daka-lo” Dairo” Nwanamidwa scored from the spot. Lucky Funyu-funyu nearly brought Stars back into the game, but his shot went wide late in the match.

Rhulani Maringa of Stars and Dakalo Nwanamindwa attack the ball.

Lennox Mabila of Stars jumps high to head the ball, with Mpho Matumba and Mbere Mahosi ready to attack.

one to blame except themselves, had they failed to collect the maximum points. They squandered countless obvious opportunities.

The visitors from Shayandima were the first to find the net. T h e m b a T s a m a k e forced his way through the defence of Brothers and beat the keeper with a ground cutter. There were shouts of “ladies first” from the Broth-ers’ fans shortly after Disco’s goal.

Disco did not have enough time to celebrate their goal as Brothers fought back. Five min-utes later, Tshilidzi Ra-matsitsi was on target, following a great pass from Lindelani Mudau. United Brothers took the lead in the 29th minute. Dakalo Mudau beat the offside trap and sent the keeper the wrong way.

Tshi l idzi Ramat-sitsi of Brothers was warned with a card for a late tackle on Absa-lom Ndou three minutes before the end of the fi rst half.

Disco Five lost co-hesion in the last half. United Brothers capi-

talized and increased the margin in the 54th minute. Lindelani Mudau went loose from the right corner and beat the keeper with a volley.

That was a wake-up call for Disco Five. They pulled one back in the 68th minute. Their

overlapping defender, Ipfi Nemu-tudi, forced his way through the defence of Brothers and sent in a rocket from close range. Rofhiwa Matshinyatsimbi score the Brothers’ fourth goal after a scramble within the box, nine minutes before the fi nal whistle.

Black Leopards collected four points in their last two league matches. They shared the spoils with Milano United (1-1) at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Wednesday afternoon. They flew to Cape Town over the weekend, where they managed to collect the maximum points at the expense of FC Cape Town, whom they beat 2-0 on Sunday.

Their game against Milano United was char-acterized by wasted opportunities. Lidoda Du-vha missed a fortune in the 14th minute. Their dribbling wizard, Leonard Ntshangase, received a neat pass from Mumuni Abubakar within the box but shot wide. It took the visitors from Cape Town 18 minutes to open their account. A scram-ble within the Leopards danger area gave birth a goal by Moganat Jacobs, who easily hooked in a loose ball from the goal line.

Black Leopards strengthened their left flank by introducing Phathutshedzo Nange and sacri-ficed Jabulani Ndebele in the 29th minute. The Giyani-based referee, Mr Victor Hlungwane,

Muraleni Lakuruna FC were too strong for Mai-sa Rainbow and beat them 2-0 in the Limpopo Dairy match played at Muraleni on Sunday.

Both sides displayed entertaining football from the onset, and the Muraleni team put lots of pressure on the defence of Rainbow the first 10 minutes. Rainbows were only good at the far back, but their midfielders hesitated for too long and did not release the ball on time for their goal poachers.

Lakuruna initiated several promising moves from the centre of the pitch but were denied a num-ber of scoring opportunities by the defence of their opponents. Rainbow lost their original shape in the middle of the park. Lakuruna took advantage and scored through Hilton Tshivhula in the 39th minute.

Lakuruna abused countless scoring opportunities in the opening minutes. William Baloyi unleashed prematurely, instead of moving a few steps towards the keeper. The only player who was booked for rough tackling was Rakheku Mashapu of Rainbow.

Rainbow introduced Gudani Alilali for Edward

United Artists continued to pave their way to the ABC Motsepe League by beating Tshambobvu Junior Aces 2-1 in their MMK Administrators’ League match at the Lufule grounds on Saturday.

United Artists took the game to the visitors from the first whistle. Their strikers, Vutomi Ngomana and Mashudu Tshitahe, let them down by shooting aimlessly from close range time after time.

Although Junior Aces were out of touch in the first 20 minutes of the game, their skillful striker, Chris Manyaga, remained a live wire. Manyaga was everywhere, collecting the ball from the centre of the pitch while playing as a full striker. United Artists were leading 1-0 when the referee, Mr Luula Magaba, blew the half-time whistle.

Vutomi Ngomana hooked in a loose ball after a scramble within the Aces’ danger area in the 36th minute. Junior Aces regrouped soon afterwards and started to initiate some promising moves

warned Robertson Chad of Milano with a card, following a dangerous tackle on Leonard Ntshangase.

Leopards replaced Bongani Manana , with Shimi Radebe two minutes later. The local lads found the equalizer in the 38th minute. Mumuni Abubakar unleashed a ground cutter from the edge of the box. The keeper of Mila-no, Western van der Linde, watched help-lessly as the ball hit the back of the net. Ruggert Nyundu of Leopards was warned for faking an injury in the 78th minute. Nyundu missed a sitter moments thereafter, much to the embar-rassment of the team’s fans.

Ruggert Nyundu and Jabulani Ndebele scored Leopards ’ goals against FC Cape Town.

Mixed fortunes for Black Leopards

Muvhali early in the second half, but the replace-ment did not change the complexion of the game, as the hosts played a very structured game. The second goal came in the 79th minute. Humbulani Mufamadi found the net after a rebound.

More league points for United Artists

from behind. Talifhani Manyaga of Junior Aces was reprimanded with a card for tackling Luten-do Matodzi the rough way three minutes into the last stanza.

United Artists re-placed Mulisa Tshivhi and Duglus Mutavhat-s indi with Maanda Mulaudzi and Robert Baloyi respectively. The visitors responded by introducing Jetta Ra-muthivheli and Lugisani Ramulongo for Hulisani Tshihume and Livhu-wani Madzinge re-spectively. Aces found the equalizer through Ndaedzo Madula in the 67th minute. United Artists were awarded a corner kick soon after-wards. Their captain, Maduvha Mudologi, beat the keeper with a long-range shot. Tal-ifhani Manyaga of Ju-nior Aces was given his marching orders for a bad tackle on Lucky Siobo. The keeper of Junior Aces, Tsumbe Netshiongolwe, was also booked for a con-tinued argument with the referee in the dying minutes of the game.

Tricky hurdle aheadof Bilika All StarsSeveral important matches will take place in the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League this weekend. Although they will be playing at home, it will not be easy for Bilika All Stars to collect even a single point tomorrow. They will host the pace setters, Magezi FC, at the Giyani Stadium.

Bilika have nothing more to lose in the match other than pride as they are on the safe side when it comes to relegation. The situation is completely different with Magezi, as losing the match will mean surrendering their leadership to the other title chasers, Bellevue Winners Park.

Great North FC will entertain Polokwane Unit-ed at the Seshego Stadium in their much-awaited Polokwane derby. Joe Express will try their luck against Bellevue Winners Park at the Nkowankowa Stadium. It can be sweet revenge for Winners Park as they lost 1-2 to Express in their first-round league match. Express must keep a close eye on the Winners Park killer strikers, Velile “Mlungu” Mdaka and Mpho Masenamela, or else they will concede an avalanche of goals.

Giyani Hotspurs will undertake a journey to Mokopane, where they will meet Winners Park at the Mahwelereng Stadium. Mosesetjane All Stars will have a date with Dynamos at the Ephraim Mohale Stadium in Modimolle. Lephalale Young Killers will host A1 Terrors at the Mogol Stadium in Lephalale.

Mighty FC will play against Modimolle Aces at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in the only match that will be played this afternoon.

The result of the match between Black Leopards and African Warriors at the Thohoyandou Sta-dium on Sunday will determine whether Black Leopards will take part in the promotional playoffs or not.

While African Warriors have only pride at stake in the match, it is a matter of life and death for Lidoda Duvha. Anything less than a victory will not be good enough for Black Leopards to quality for the promotional play-offs, which are scheduled to kick off next weekend.

According to the Leopards head coach, Mr Zeca Marques, all his players, including Marks Munyai, will be available for selection on Sunday. Munyai was out of action for four weeks due to injury. Asked about the status of the players’ health, Mr Marques said that all of them had a clean bill of

Leopards and Warriors in decider

health. Leopards are currently lying in the third position on the log with 48 points.

Lamontville Gold-en Arrows, who were declared the league champions after play-ing to a 1-1 draw with Cape Town All Stars last Sunday, gained au-tomatic promotion to the premiership division. Teams that will fi nish their league programme in the second and third place, together with the second-last team in the Absa Premiership, will try their luck in the pro-motional playoffs.

The promot iona l play-off matches will

take a round-robin format and the top team at the end of the tournament will also be promoted to the elite division.

It remains to be seen whether the strikers of War-riors will be able to penetrate the Leopards defence, which will be marshalled by Tshivhavhudzi Ndou and Dunga Munganga.

The other NFD matches that will also be played on Sunday are: Thanda Royal Zulu vs Garankuwa United, Vasco da Gama vs Santos, Maluti FET College vs Baroka FC, Milano United vs FC Cape Town, Royal Eagles vs Witbank Spurs, Cape Town All Stars vs Jomo Cosmos and Highlandspark vs Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Jonathan King of Leopards hooks the ball, while Brandon Theron of Milano pulls him from behind in last week’s league match in Thohoyandou. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
