Man’s body found in burnt-out car

Suspect in court after death of girlfriend

Sundani business veteran passes away

Alleged xeno attacks at Tshirowe village

From page 1A serious argument allegedly led to an assault

and the injured woman was taken to hospital.Information provided by someone close to those

involved is that the man received a phone call from the police after the assault. It is alleged that the police wanted to confi scate the car, which allegedly belonged to the man’s wife. It is also alleged that the man feared that he might have killed the woman and, in trying to avoid being arrested, drove to some bushes not far from the village, where he set himself alight inside the vehicle.

Residents who live nearby said they heard a big bang in the morning. “We could hear the direction it came from and that was why we did not take long to locate this place. We are worried because this is not the fi rst burnt-out body to be found here. A soldier was found burnt to death two years ago, and we feel that this area should be utilised for development and for dwelling sites. It should be cleared of all bushes,” said a man who lives at the village and who preferred not to be named.

Community leader Peter Rasikhanya, secre-tary of the Tshishishuru Council, said they were saddened by the inci-dent.

“The incident comes at a time when we are having talks with a pro-spective developer who wants to change this area. We were shocked to learn of the incident and, as community lead-ers, we want to encour-age people to share their problems with people close to them or seek help from profession-

als to prevent such incidents. Just this morning the council had a meeting with the prospective developer, and we hope this area will soon be developed and not become a dumping ground for dead bodies.”

A source very close to the woman who was injured said she spoke to her during the week and that she did not show any signs of stress. “We are still in shock and we cannot even fi gure out what had happened that led to the incident,” she said.

Reacting after learning of the incident, the chairperson of Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum, Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini, said as an organisation they were worried about the increasing number of killings related to family arguments. “We always preach peace in the family, and that men are pro-tectors of their families. Men who kill are cowards. There is always a way out of problems. If people cannot reconcile, the best way is to get out of a relationship,” he said.

Vuwani police spokesperson W/O Elijah Malat-jie said that they had opened an inquest docket.

The inside of the burnt-out car.

A cloud of sadness still lingers in the Lwamondo Khumbe area after a 19-year-old girl, Ndolilad-

za Likhuda, was allegedly stabbed and killed by her boyfriend two weeks ago.

According to the police it is alleged that her boyfriend, who apparently accused her of cheating on him, had stabbed her repeatedly. The deceased was a Grade 12 pupil at Gwamasenga Secondary School. “It appears that the two had differences that led them to quarrel before the incident,” a family member said.

The spokesperson for the Vuwani police, W/O Elijar Malatjie, said the victim died at the scene of the incident. “According to our preliminary investigation, the suspect dragged Miss Ndoliladza to his home, where he allegedly stabbed her several times all over her body,” said Malatjie.

Several killings of this nature had been reported in the Vuwani area in the past months. Malatjie is now calling upon all people who might be experi-encing marital or relationship problems to consult with social workers for counselling, rather than resorting to killing each other.

The suspect, Fhulufhedzani Neadzadza (25) of Ha-Mutsha, appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court and his case was postponed to 4 May for a bail application.

The suspect, Fhulufhedzani Nemadzadza (25), remains in custody.

The late Mr Titus Mathukha.

A legend in the business fraternity in the Vhem-be area, Mr Titus Mathukha (91) of Sundani, died on Saturday after a short illness.

According to friends and family members, the legendary Mathukha will go down in the business history books as a true example of what hard work is all about. Starting from scratch with no capital at all in the 1960s, Mathukha worked hard until he established himself as one of the leading business-men in the Vhembe area.

Mathukha started his small business by selling fruit in the townships, often using his bicycle to transport his goods in and around his home village, Dzimaulu.

Mathukha later engaged more of his family members to help him and the business grew much bigger. Despite his advanced age, his businesses were still prospering because his dedicated children were helping him to run them.

One of his children, Mr Nkhumiseni Mathukha, said the family had suffered a great loss. “Our father has taught us to work hard and we will pick up the spear where he left off. However, we put everything in God’s hands because He knows why it happens this way. We will miss him, but we have to accept what we do not have the power to change things.”

Mt Mathuka is survived by his two wives and

their children. He will be buried at Dzimauli on Saturday. The service will start at 06:00.

Zimbabwean citizens staying in the Tshirowe village area were victims of what appears to be xenophobic attacks a fortnight ago. They were accused of be-ing responsible for the crime in the area and told to leave the village.

Tensions fl ared up in the vil-lage two weeks ago and three Zimbabwean citizens were ap-prehended. “We gave all the Zim-babweans just a week to vacate Tshirolwe village, because they are giving us problems,” said a community member, Mr Judas Mutshekwa.

On Wednesday, 18 February, a mob apprehended a Zimbabwean citizen and he had to be rescued by the police.

“Community members are now angry and we are attacking

each and every Zimbabwean we meet on the street because of their evil deeds. We don’t care wheth-er they have married SA women or not, we are raiding them day and night. We have declared that after 10 o’clock at night we don’t want to see people walking in the streets,” said Mutshekwa.

Vhavenda King Toni Mphe-phu Ramabulana said that peo-ple participating in xenophobic attacks must stop immediately. “The recent wave of violence against foreign nationals that erupted in some Nzhelele areas left the area in chaos and such events should be condemned,” he said.

He added that the attacks went against the democratic values enshrined in the Constitution and stated that many foreign nationals

were living in South Africa le-gally and that these people were meaningfully contributing to the country’s economic and social development.

“In instances where foreign nationals are in the country ille-gally or are involved in criminal activities, we call on all citizens to provide this information to the police. No frustration or anger can justify the attacks on foreign nationals and the looting of their shops.”

The Mphephu police spokes-person, W/O Lazarus Netshid-zati, said that they were investi-gating the incident. He confi rmed that the police had opened a case of assault and that three Zimbabwean citizens had been attacked and later admitted to Siloam hospital.

Quick thinking taxi driver saves livesA quick-thinking taxi driver in the Thohoyandou area averted what could have been a major disaster last Wednes-day.

The driver, Norman Alili, was aproaching the taxi rank next to the offi ces of the Thulamela municipality when passengers inside noticed smoke coming out of the engine area.

Alilali (44) said the taxi that was carrying four passengers at the time from Vhufuli outside Sibasa.

“At about 12:30, when I was about to make a turn into the taxi rank, one of the passengers

at the back noticed smoke. I stopped immediately and told my passengers to make a dash for their dear lives, and all the passengers safely alighted from the taxi.”

He said that he then opened the area where the smoke was coming from and a ball of fi re engulfed the whole inside of the taxi.

“There was no time to look for the fi re extinguisher as the fi re was very fi erce and all that came to my mind was to take the burning taxi from the road to prevent other vehicles from catching fi re. We managed to

push it over the pavement and it completely burnt out there.”

The cause of the fi re is still a mystery.

Alilali further indicated that the ambulance people treated him and his passengers and released them at the scene.

Taxi owner Mr China Mago-da praised the driver for having saved the passengers’ lives. “Our core business is to trans-port passengers to reach their destinations safely. The driver did all he could to save lives and to take the vehicle from the road where other vehicles could have been affected. “

Taxi driver Norman Alilali and owner Mr China Magoda (left) inspect the damage caused by the mysterious fi re.

Services around Vuwani came to a standstill on Monday when hundreds of villagers marched to the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court to support 33 suspects charged with public violence, arson and theft. They were arrested during the unruly protests at Vuwani and Mashau last year.

Members of the community demanded that the cases against the suspects be withdrawn. The arrests came after dissatisfaction with the Munic-ipal Demarcation Board’s decision to incorporate their area into a new municipality that will include Malamulele. Residents in the area had made it clear that they wanted nothing to do with the proposed municipality, and that they wanted to remain under Makhado Municipality.

Some of the suspects are school pupils. Charges against them include arson, public violence and theft. Soon after the court adjourned, a group of youths attempted to block the road and some pelted passing vehicles with stones. The police then used rubber bullets to disperse them and one police vehicle was damaged.

Buses and taxis were not moving and streets were deserted, with people staying at home. Most of the community members who commute from around Vuwani could not travel to their work places as there was no transport, due to the shutdown.

A resident of Tshitungulwane, Mr Rudzani

Mukobani, who works in Thohoyandou, said that he did not go to work as there was no transport available. “Although I failed to go to work, I am supporting this strike because the government did not consult us. They took a decision regarding the new proposed municipality and we want to remain under Makhado Municipality,” he said.

The spokesperson of the Pro Makhado Task Team, Mr Arnold Mulaudzi, said that the commu-nity around Vuwani and other traditional leaders around Vuwani and their people did not want to belong to a new municipality that would include his area and Malamulele. He criticised members of the Vuwani Demarcation task team who had submitted that they would like to meet with the people of Malamulele and be part of the new municipality.

“Let them go,” said Mulaudzi, referring to those who wanted to mix with the Malamulele people in the proposed new municipality. Mulaudzi said his people had nothing to do with the Vuwani Demar-cation Task Team, a combination of community structures that made a submission to the public hearings held by the board in Thohoyandou last year. He warned the police not to arouse the anger of the people by arresting their leaders.

“The people of Malamulele burnt schools and shopping complexes, but no one was arrested. Here you are practising double standards by intimidating

More demarcation trouble in Vuwani

leaders by arresting them,” he added. Mulaudzi said, “Businesses and schools were closed because the community is in solidarity with those who ap-peared in court and whose cases were postponed.”

Vuwani Magistrate Court manager Mr Moses Muravha responded to the memorandum handed over by the residents that demands that all charges against the accused be withdrawn. Muravha said that he had sent the memorandum to the National Prosecuting Authority for a decision.

Vuwani SAPS spokesperson W/O Elijah Malat-jie said that Dingan Mashau (25) of Vyeboom had been charged with malicious damage to property and he appeared on Tuesday. His case was post-poned to 14 March for a bail application.

Police place razor wire around the Vuwani Magistrate’s Court.

Residents of the Vuwani area have vowed to ensure that In-dependent Electoral Commis-sion (IEC) registration will not take place as scheduled this weekend in their area.

Communities are currently in disagreement with the gov-ernment over the Municipal Demarcation Board's decision to incorporate their area into a new municipality, which will include Malamulele. The community structures and the IEC failed to

reach an agreement at Vuwani last weekend. A spokesperson for the Pro Makhado Task Team, Mr Arnold Mulaudzi, said that they had agreed with community members that those who had funerals this week should bury their relatives on Thursday and Friday “as we will have a total shutdown from Friday (today) until Monday”. The residents have vowed to disrupt busi-nesses and government services to prevent IEC officials from

operating in the area. However, the IEC manager

for Limpopo, Mr Nkaro Matete, said voter registration this week-end must go ahead. “The voting stations have to operate over the weekend as per arrangement that all voting station have to open throughout the Republic of South Africa. We are in dis-cussion with the leadership and traditional leaders of Vuwani and we hope we will find a solu-tion before the end of the week.”

The executive mayor of the Vhembe District, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe. His district municipality was labelled as a “poorly performing” administration.

Premier Stan Mathabatha promised to crack the whip against the poorly performing municipalities.

By Silas Nduvheni

Underperforming municipalities whippedPremier Stan Mathabatha promised to crack the whip against underperforming mu-nicipalities.

During his State of the Prov-ince address in the Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane last Friday, Mathabatha directed the MEC for Cooperative Governance Hu-man Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGSTA), Ms Makoma Makurupetje, to ensure that the necessary remedial action was taken.

The municipalities include Vhembe, Mopani, Thabazimbi and Mogalakwena. The premier added that it was of particular concern that the municipalities continued to perform below par. “They also have poor record management, lack of proper asset management and non-compliance with supply-chain policies,” he said.

The troubled Vhembe District Municipality has received a dis-claimer audit report for three years in succession, and in the 2014/15 financial year, the district was regarded as one of the “worst performing” municipalities with poor financial management and maladministration.

He congratulated Makhado Municipality, however, which continued to receive an unquali-fied audit opinion.

“I am pleased to announce that, by the end of January his year, we had managed to build no fewer than 7 740 houses for our people. This represents a 74.2% increase compared to the 2 000 houses we built the previous year,” he said.

Several heavy fines were imposed on MMK Administrators clubs during the league's dis-ciplinary committee meeting at Thohoyandou last Tuesday.

Mpheni Home Defenders, who assaulted a match official and caused the abandonment of their match against Tshikhwani Stone Breakers, were fined R6 000. Defenders also forfeited the points to

Stone Breakers.Khubvi Dangerous Darkies assaulted the refer-

ee in their match against Mukula Young Santos. They were also ordered to pay R6 000 and two of their players, M Ramatsea and B Muthubi, were suspended for six games. R3 000 of the fine was suspended and the club must pay R3 000 within 30 days. Santos recieved the three match points.

In a case relating to a match between Mahagala FC and Tshilongwe Young Bombers, Mahagala were found guilty of assaulting the referee and causing the abandonment of the match. They were were fined R5 000 and forfeited three points to Young Bombers.

Alleged killer of Rolivhuha in courtA man believed to have been responsible for the killing of the 19-year-old pupil of Tshilogoni Secondary School, Rol ivhuha Mphaphathi , at Dopeni a fortnight ago, appeared in the Thohoyan-dou Magistrate's Court last Wednesday.

Lufuno Khangale (36) of Tshikombani, notoriously known as "Tshitinifosholo," was not asked to plead and the case was postponed to 4 May for a formal bail application. Khan-gale's arrest and subsequent appearance follows a week of violent protest in the area, where communities demanded that he be handed over to them so that they could deal with him. Out-side the court, the family of the deceased girl expressed relief but said they were saddened

that their loved one was gone forever.

A family member, Mr Albert Tshikhudo, said they were wor-ried that the accused was not telling the police who his ac-complices were. "We are happy he confessed to the police, but one thing we know is that he did not act alone."

R o l i v h u h a ' s a u n t , M s Thizwilondi Matsea, said arrest-ing him would not in any way help the family and punishing the accused would not ease their pain. "We have a life that has been lost here. They should not have arrested him, so that people could sort him out," she said.

Ward councillor Livhuwani Maduse, who was also in court, said they were there to support the family. “We will support this family and we are here to make

a point that we are against the accused's being granted bail. We have decided to make our presence felt and at his next ap-pearance we will submit a mem-orandum to the court against the granting of bail,” he said.

Alleged killer Lufuno Khan-gale.

R12 million library for Dzanani Biaba

Impact Christ Ministries adopt Mamali

The eagerly awaited commu-nity library at Dzanani Biaba was officially opened last Tues-day, 23 February.

It was funded by the De-partment of Sports, Arts and Culture and, according to the MEC for the department, Ms Nandi Ndalane, the total cost of constructing the library was R12 million.

She stated that the construc-tion period for the library was 12 months, apart from the planning phase. It consists of a circulation area, where thousands of books

and other material will be stored, as well as a cataloguing section, a spacious area for reading and an access-control area. The li-brary is user friendly for people with disabilities.

Ndalane said the library would bring important academ-ic services closer to the people. “We want our people, especially young ones, to access the library and stay away from negative influences within society. In this way, some ills of society can be reversed,” she added.

She added that her department

also wanted to develop a reading nation. “We want to assist in cre-ating a reading culture, because in that way we can break the people’s hunger for knowledge.”

During the event, pupils re-ceived school bags. Nditsheni Murivhami (19), a Grade 12 pupil of Nngweni Secondary School, said that they were very happy that the library was situated at their doorstep. “We thank all the people involved, and there is no doubt that the library will continue to promote literacy in this area.”

A moment of ecstasy for the pupils and delegates at the opening of the library.

A disadvantaged school at Ngovhela, which has been ad-opted by The Impact for Christ Ministries (IFCM) and Impact Television Network (ITVN), a television broadcast min-istry under the leadership of Prophet Philip Banda, stands to benefit big time.

Mamali Sikhwivhilu Prima-ry Shool with 280 pupils has received from the ministry full uniforms and bags for all the pupils, 300 chairs, a television set, a decoder, duvets, clothing for pupils and their parents, blan-kets, Bibles and toiletries, among other things.

Ministry spokesperson Ms Constance Netshifhefhe said that Banda was celebrating his birthday on 28 January. “Instead of accepting gifts from members of the church, he tasked me to identify a school to benefit from his birthday, saying God had cre-ated him to bring change and be a blessing to others. I thought of this school where we have classes under trees, and where pupils still come to school barefoot,” she said. She indicated that, as a for-mer pupil of the school, she did not need to be told of the situation at the school and it became her first choice to benefit. “We have

adopted the school and plans are afoot that we bring a borehole that will assist the school and the community. It is a long-lasting relationship. The school has its own wishlist, and we will see to it that they are catered for.”

The principal, Ms Nndivhuhe-ni Siaga, said it was nothing less than a miracle. “We are one of the least known schools around, but we were chosen to benefit largely. This is God’s grace at work,” she said with tears of joy in her eyes. Ms Tshimangadzo Makhomu, SGB chairperson, said the gifts were like manna from heaven.

The Impact for Christ Ministries entourage, happy pupils, SGB members, and educators with some of the goods donated by Prophet Philip Banda to the school.

Two books add to Xitsonga literature ouvre

Municipal parking lot in Louis Trichardt turned into a stinking dumping terrain

The fragrance of new books permeated the air inside the Giyani Multipurpose Hall during the launch of two Xitsonga books, Ntsena Loko Mpfula A Yo Sewula and Mpimavayeni a fort-night ago.

Ntsena Loko Mpfula A Yo Sewula is a poetry anthology, which features poems by 10 poets. It can be translated as ‘Only if it Could Rain’. It was edited by Moses Mtileni.

Mpimavayeni is a novel, authored by Mtileni. Both books are published by Nhlalala Books, a publishing initiative that aims to publish books that tell interesting and ignored stories to bolster the reading level in African languages.

Speaking about the compilation of Ntsena Loko Mpfula A Yo Sewula, Mtileni says that the poets are young writers who crossed his path at differ-ent times in the past five years. “They are writers who presented to me complete manuscripts they had attempted to have published before (in full or in part) and whose works I fell in love with,” he reveals. “They write differently, from much of what existed in later Xitsonga poetry and from each other, in concern and in style, and I felt they needed to be heard.”

Poets featured in the anthology are Basani Petronella Mathye, Hitekani Ian Ndlozi, Thymon Rivisi, Mkhongelo Prayers Chabalala, Onassis Mathebula, Enock Dlayani Shishenge, Shikhum-buza Shadrack Vutlharimuni Mavasa, Khanyisa Vista Chauke, Nzama Noel Mathebula and Moses Nzama Khaizen Mtileni.

Mtileni says there is hope because young people have chosen to write, and to do so in their own language. “It is said that the levels of reading in African languages are very low,” he says. “As a result, much of what is published is aimed at the educational market and not at general readership. The material published, both in language and fic-tion, is tailored to meet the requirements outlined in the guidelines issued by the Department of Basic Education in terms of design, content and packaging.”

Proud poet Basani Mathye says: “I’m hon-oured to be featured in Ntsena Loko Mpfula A Yo Sewula. I was excited to be part of a group of young writers who are passionate about writing and

preserving our mother tongue. We need to make reading fashionable, and especially books in our own languages.”

She sees a brighter future for her as a writer. “I am looking into writing Xitsonga children’s books and am also working on a book about my family history. I hope to publish a collection of my poetry as well in the future.”

At the end of the day, all the people who attend-ed the launch were offered copies of both Ntsena Loko Mpfula A Yo Sewula and Mpimavayeni, at the expense of the publisher.

The launch has opened the door for more books to be written and published, and for more literary activities to happen in and around Limpopo.

Moses Mtileni reads his poetry during the launch.

A parking lot in the centre of Louis Trichardt has become such a disgusting place to visit that the four parking atten-dants now fear that they may soon be without a means of in-come. The parking lot is being used as a toilet by many people while they are also dumping rubbish there, causing the area to smell like an open sewer.

The parking attendants com-plained to the newspaper last week, saying that the people

who urinated against the walls included municipal workers, church-goers and people who used the parking lot to hold func-tions. “When they go, they leave the whole place even dirtier with all their rubbish,” said Robert Simali, a car attendant.

Limpopo Mirror visited the parking lot on a few occasions the past two weeks. On one occa-sion, a fire extinguisher was seen spilling water which filled the entire upper parking floor before

dripping onto the lower parking lot. The litter on the upper floor soaked in the water and it was difficult to walk among all the rubbish. “(At home) we go for days without water and look here, a pipe runs all day and all night without anyone caring about it,” a motorist said. “I stopped using the upper parking lot because I couldn’t risk parking my car in the smelly rubbish.”

Simali, the car guard, said that they had reported the dysfunc-

tional, dripping fire extinguisher pipe to the Makhado Municipali-ty, but they were told to take such reports to the Vhembe District Municipality.

A resident of Tshikota and car attendant, Rendani Sadiki, said that he feared catching some illness from inhaling the odorous stench from the hazardous heaps of decaying rubbish.

“People have a way of disre-specting the municipality and they show their disrespect by

littering everywhere,” he said. “The people who throw their litter in this parking lot think we get paid by their municipality. We earn our bread from motor-ists who respect us, because we respect them and keep a watchful eye on their precious cars during their absence,” Sadiki said.

The parking lot belongs to the Makhado Municipality.

The spokesperson for the Makhado Municipality, Louis Bobodi, said that people who

reported issues such as faulty fire extinguishers should not be referred to other municipalities. “Even if the water issue falls within the district municipality, we have a way of tackling all cases and making sure that all problems are addressed at the end of the day,” he said.

Bobodi promised that the mu-nicipality would send officials to the parking lot to ensure that all litter was cleared and that the parking lot was fully functional.

Robert Simali looks at the odorous rubbish in the parking lot. Precious water runs all day and night.

Enraged citizens of the Mamvuka and Manyii communities, which fall under the Makhado Municipality, have affirmed that they will not vote in the upcoming municipal elections if their demand for water is not met.

The community members have been holding several meetings during the past few months to discuss a solution for the water crisis. Accord-ing to them, since last November they have not had any water. “Each year we celebrate the festive season without water. When we voted, we were promised that all our demands would be met, but now we are back to square one,” said Mr Muvhulawa Nevhulamba, a representative of the Mamvuka community.

They said they had presented a memorandum of their grievances to the municipality, but that their councillor, Mr Mbulaheni Magada, was not coming back to them. “When we call him to attend our meetings to discuss the water issue, he is nowhere to be found. His phone is always off.

Last week when we called him to come to the water station to look at the cables, he told us that he would come with the police. He is afraid to face the community,” said the angry residents.

The communities of Mamvuka and Manyii have been dealing with the water crisis by themselves for the past three weeks. They are digging and patching the pipes that are leak-ing. “We are solving the water issue ourselves because the municipality is not helping us,” said Ms Rachel Phetheli, a representative of the Manyii community.

When Limpopo Mirror talked to Cllr Magada concerning the water issue, he said that the problem with the borehole that supplied water to the affected communities had already been sorted out.

He also said that the problem was the cable to measure the water level. “I called the electricians to fix the cable, but their phones were not reachable,” he added.

“No water, no votes...”

Excited pupils and educators from Wilmary Christian Learning Centre display donated text books and teachers' guides.

Study guides and text books for Wilmary Centre “We are very grateful for these teachers' guides and textbooks that will be of great use for our school.”

Those were the words of the principal of Wil-mary Christian Learning Centre, Mr Livingstone Hatuugari, after Primedia Outdoor had donated teachers' guides and textbooks on Friday.

Hatuugari said that the school did not have sufficient words to thank the donors who took the pupils' education to heart. “With sufficient teaching

material, teachers are likely to achieve more in transferring skills to learners who are thirsty for education. The guides are normally very helpful, and they can assist our staff in teaching effectively.”

The rights and acquisition execu-tive officer at Primedia Outdoor, Mr Kennedy Tshabalala, said that they were delighted to play a part in up-lifting schools and looked forward to seeing the school achieve even better results in future.

The school is located at Midoroni

village and has one of the highest matric pass rates in the South West Circuit, which encompasses some 14 secondary schools.

“This achievement is one reason why the school has been selected by Primedia Outdoor for this donation,” he said.

The acting mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr David Davhana, expressed appreciation for the dona-tion and added that the municipality had noted the company's addition to community-lifting work.

The little girl loved watching programmes on television so much that she would dress up like people on television and imitate them. Little did she know that this love for entertainment and the media would live with her through childhood and into adulthood.

The young girl is now a grown-up woman whose voice is familiar to the ears of thousands and thousands of PhalaPhala FM listeners.

A resident of Ha-Matsila village, Tshedza Mukwevho’s love for radio had seen her fi rst preparing herself to entering the media industry by obtaining a degree in media studies from the University of Venda. “For me, radio means opportunities,” she said. “It bridges the gap between our people and the world. Radio inspires and instils hope. With radio we learn the difference between right and wrong. Radio has given me an opportunity to do something in the community, you see. I have always wanted to be part of change.”

She attended Matsila Primary School and Tshimbiluni Pri-mary School. She then

went to Tshiemuemu Secondary School in Tshakhuma and ma-triculated at Radzamo Secondary School in 2010.

The 23-year-old news-reader was given an opportunity for internship at the SABC in Lim-popo in 2014. The broadcasting corporation noticed her amazing talent and skills as a journalist and newsreader. By 2015, she started reading news for Phalaphala FM. “I have always wanted to be in the media world,” she said. “When the opportunity of being a newsreader presented itself for me at Phalaphala FM, I had to grab it with both hands.”

Tshedza said that she appreci-ated the support which she had received from her family when she was busy pursuing a career in journalism. “My son is my pillar of strength and my joy,” she add-ed. “I fi nd joy in seeing him smile every morning.”

She said that there was nothing that made her happier than breaking a story or being the fi rst person to tell a story, especially in her mother tongue. “I have

The 22-year break that musician Alpheus Mukhese (56), or Target Fire as he is also known, has had since his early years in the music industry, is fi nally over.

Mukhese of Mangondi has made a major come back with the release of his latest album, Lufuno. He uses his own name on the new album, which contains a mix of various music genres, and it is expected to appeal to all music lovers.

Mukhese, a teacher and ordained pastor, shot to prominence in the disco music arena in 1991 with the release of his hit album Vha Khou Lila, which achieved platinum status at the time. In 1994 he released the album Zwitshele, and that was also his fi nal album, until his latest offering.

Mukhese, who had the priv-ilege of backing Percy Sledge in his show in Thohoyandou in 1983, said good things fol-lowed those who wait-ed. He added that his music had mellowed like “old wine” and people could see now what he was still capa-ble of doing. “I have been in this industry for a long time and my profession as a teacher

took much of my time. After I added another career as a pastor, it was diffi cult to complete my album, due to a lack of time. Transition also takes time; to me it was a transition from disco to a cool type of music that I have come up with. I changed many session musicians until I found the sound that I had always wanted. I am happy with the product; it is worth listening to,” he said.

He further indicated that pressure from his hordes of fans became unbearable. “They know that I am talented. Wherever I went, people would ask when a new album was coming out and I had to succumb to the pressure, but the pressure was worth it. All the tracks on the album

have a message. I am a pastor, as you know, and all I teach

is righteousness. I hope the message will help many to deal with their challenges,” he said.

Tracks that stand out are the title track, Lufuno, Ndi Ya Murenda and Tshisi-ma. The album will soon be available at all record

stores. People having problems in getting his music can phone him on 079 759 5259.

The 44-year-old weather anchor at SABC TV, Tirhani Abigail Mabasa, added a proud achievement to her curriculum vitae when she recorded and released an anthemic makhwaya song, Ben 10.

Mabasa is a mother of one, born in a family of fi ve, with three sisters and a brother. “My father died when I was less than a year old, so my mother raised us singlehandedly. It is sad that my mother passed on in 2013 before she could see me realise my dream – that of singing,” she said. Her song, Manana, is a tribute to her mother.

“She was a strong woman who wanted to see all her children educated. She always encouraged us to study.”

According to Mabasa, the support she gets from my family is amazing. “My son, Nkateko, was with me in the studio when I recorded Ben 10. He is also into hip hop, but I told him to focus on his studies, then we can relook at taking him to the studio.”

She added that she started singing in church. “Growing up in a village, I would see people walk around with a radio hanging from their shoulders while riding bicycles, playing it at full

blast. That got me interested in music.” She said she was highly inspired by HW Makhubele, Dr Thoma Chauke (Xinyori), and Khatisa Chavalala. “I would sing along with their songs while I was growing up,” she said. “Then I later came to know Cesaria Evora, who started her musical journey after 40, just like I did.”

She said that she wanted to see herself as an active singer for many years to come. “I want to work hard. I wish to see myself entertaining the world on a world stage. It was while studying for an MBA that I realised that South Africa is full of possibilities.”

According to her, she will release a full-length album soon. “I sing about relationships, friend-ships and things that are happening on a daily basis. As a Christian, I had to do one gospel track with makhwaya mix to it.”

She said that Ben 10 was about the realities of this world. She said there were young men who were in relationships with older women. “I believe as an artist that I am a social ambassador – so I bring those issues out there for people to talk about openly,” she said. “I am so excited about the whole project.”

he performs. Masete was the centre of attention when he put on a brilliant performance during a social gathering to offi cially open the mukumbi (traditional beer made from marula fruit) season at Mabvete village. People cried for more as Masete continued to hit them with various tra-

ditional hits and vocals during his memorable performance. Masete said he learnt to play

the concertina as a young man while he was still working in Johannesburg many

years ago. “A few of my friends owned concertinas and I used to listen to their music when they

played. I then fell in love with the instrument and I asked them to teach me how to play. It was easy for me to master the skill

because of my positive attitude.

And the rest is now history…”The much-loved concertina player, who sells

fi rewood for survival, says despite his fame as a local entertainer, he is looking forward to collaborating with seasoned local musicians. “Music lovers, especially the older generation, miss the old melodic sounds of the concertina. That’s why it is important for me to feature it in other people’s music. Besides that, I also have a dream of recording my own album, but I cannot realize it because I don’t have money. Maybe someone out there will assist me to realize this dream. I also want to teach young people how to play the concertina. It is valuable to preserve this type of music because only a few people are able to play this type of musical instrument.”

Community members who wants to interact with Masete can phone him on 079 849 3357.

The Ramadwa family in Vlei-fontein, near Elim, demonstrat-ed the spirit of vhuthu and vhuthihi (humanity and unity) when they accepted a request for forgiveness from a lady who had tainted their name in public.

A 52-year-old resident of Vleifontein, Ms Melta Ndou, expressed words of relief and gratitude when Mrs Julia Ramad-wa and Mr Mbengeni Ramadwa accepted her apology.

“It was hard on me, knowing that I had angered the Ramadwa family and spoiled the image of their family through my words,” Ndou said.

The incident happened during the burial of a community mem-

ber at the public cemetery on 28 November last year. Normally, representatives from different structures are required to speak or are given an opportunity to address the mourners during funerals in the villages. As a representative of a local SAN-CO, Ndou had used the time afforded to her and addressed the residents.

“I told the residents that they would not see any development taking place among them because the Ramadwa household was blocking all government services from reaching us,” she said. Some people who attended the burial used their mobile phones to contact Mr Ramadwa and in-formed him about a woman who

was speaking ill of his household in a public space.

“I called the police and report-ed the case,” Ramadwa said.

However, Ndou was repentant and asked for forgiveness. “I ask the Ramadwa family to forgive me for my utterances, where I told the residents that the family was blocking service delivery,” she said.

Mr Ramadwa and his wife, Mrs Julia Ramadwa, accepted Ndou’s apology. “We come from the same place, and we all are God’s children – so we see no reason why we shouldn’t forgive Vho-Melta Ndou,” Mr Ramadwa said. “We will live in peace with her. We are united as community members again.”

A resident of Tshidzivhe, who killed his brother in cold blood after an argument, has been sentenced to a long prison term.

Thifhelimbilu Ratshilumela (48) was sentenced to an effective 22 years in prison for the killing of his brother at Tshidzivhe in 2014. His brother, Mr Solomon Ratshilumela (49), had arrived to solve a family dispute.

Out of anger, Ratshilumela pro-duced an axe and chopped his brother on the head. After the attack, Ratsh-ilumela went on the run. He took an axe from his brother’s orchard and went around the local villages, threat-ening to kill people he met.

An intensive manhunt ensued and,

through the help of the local com-munity, he was located at Vhufuli, a village far from Tshidzivhe. The community informed the police, who arrested him.

The case was finalised in the Lim-popo High Court in Thohoyandou last Wednesday.

Commenting after the sentence, Thohoyandou police spokesperson Const Avhafarei Tshiovhe said the sentence would serve as a deterrent and praised the investigating team for the way they investigated the case and also commended the community for partnering with the police, which had led to the arrest of the convicted man. The mayor of Musina, Cllr Mihloti Ramoyada, visited Eric Louw High School on 1 March to hand over certificates to three of the school’s learners who had attended an orators’ competition at Robben Island in October 2015. The three learners were Latani Nthambeleni, Walter Masindi and Vutomi Rivele. Learners from across Africa competed in the competition, with Limpopo securing an overall second place. Felicia took a first place during the competition and also received a bursary to study journalism. Pictured (in front) from left to right are learners Latani, Cllr Ramoyada, Walter and Vutomi. The South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) wel-comed the dismissal of the mu-nicipal manager of the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM), Ms Ndanduleni Makhari.

In a press release issued by SAM-WU, the Limpopo Province’s sec-retary, Mr Cromwell Nhemo, says that the union had raised its objec-tions against the appointment of Ms Makhari on several occasions.

“Her appointment was against the regulations within the local gov-ernment sector and as such she was viewed as someone who (is) not fit to hold public office. Vhembe District Municipality is known for its failure to pay employees and (is) generally unable to manage its finances, hence the state of collapse they find them-selves in,” says Nhemo.

According to Nhemo, SAMWU members embarked on protest action, demanding, among other things, the removal of the executive mayor, the Speaker and the Chief Whip (PMT) who were involved in the irregular appointment of the municipal manag-er, despite numerous calls to review

their decision.SAMWU is also critical of the

actions of the executive mayor, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe. The union blames him for “defending wrong things in this institution” and wants him to issue a public apology.

Last Friday, one of the senior tradi-tional leaders in the Vhembe region, Thovhele Midiyavhathu Tshivhase, slammed the VDM for appointing people without the necessary skills and experience in key positions, such as municipal manager and chief finan-cial officers. He was the guest speaker at the Vhembe Education Excellence Awards held at Calvary Christian Church in Lwamondo-Tshifunani village.

The spokesperson for the VDM, Mr Matodzi Ralushai, confirmed that the former municipal manager of the district was fired during the council meeting that was held on Saturday at the former Venda parliamentary chambers.

However, Ralushai could not elaborate on the firing (dismissal) of Ndanduleni Makhari, saying they would issue a statement later.

In the front are some of the parents, representing the pupils who excelled during the 2015 matric exams.

The principal of Mbilwi Secondary School, Mr Cedrick Lidzhade (second from back line) and the acting principal of Thengwe Secondary, Ms Tshidzi Madanda, photographed with some of the awards their schools have won. Also in the photograph are some of the parents who represented their children at the ceremony.

“Parents to get involved in childrens’ education”One of the senior traditional leaders in the Vhembe region, Thovhele Midi-yavhathu Tshivhase has warned the Vhembe District Municipality against political deployment in key positions and said that they must employ skilful and capable people.

“We must not compromise with the ap-pointment of people in key positions, such as municipal managers or chief financial officers, because we will be hampering service delivery to our communities.

We must get away for the time of ap-pointing our friends and relatives,” said

Tshivhase.He was a speaker during the 2015

Vhembe Education Excellence Awards, which were held at Calvary Christian Church in Lwamondo a fortnight ago. Vhembe obtained a 74,7% pass rate. Tshivhase added, however, that the re-

sults could be better "if shebeens who operated for long irregular hours could be shut down im-mediately".

"Our King, Toni Mphephu Ramabulana, encourages communi-ties to become involved in the development proj-ects and scholars taking education seriously. We urge parents to get in-volved in the education of their children and regard education as a social responsibility for teachers and parents," he added.

During the event, pu-pils received rewards such as floating tro-phies, laptops, cash and certificates.

The executive mayor of the Vhembe district, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, said that for more than four years, the district had been leading in the province in terms of the matric pass rate. “We are pleased to note that our learners in the district are taking math-ematics and physical science seriously. As a district municipality, we are committed to improving the lives of promising pupils for the better, hence we have the Mayoral Bursary Fund that assists poor but serious learners in improving their lives,” added Matibe.

Masheba Mashabaphala of Academy hooks the ball, while Mulisa Ramusia of Maweja blocks the way.

After beating Polokwane Unit-ed 4-1 two weeks ago, Joe Maweja continued to pave their way up the league ladder by beating another Polok-wane-based side, Polokwane Academy, 3-1 at the Tshifu-lanani Stadium in their ABC

Motsepe League match last Saturday.

The teams managed to display entertaining football, despite the fact that the pitch was slippery due to rain. Academy lost cohe-sion in the midfield as the game progressed. Maweja capitalized

and opened their account in the 34th minute. Their centre forward, Nndwamato Ndou, un-leashed a powerful volley from the 35-metre area. As if he was a spectator, the keeper of Acad-emy, Thapelo Mare, watched helplessly as the ball hit the back

of the net.Pressure continued to

mount on the defence of Academy. Their keeper was warned with a card for obstructing Nndwa-mato Ndou in the 40th minute.

Maweja effected the first change to their starting lineup six min-utes into the second half. They replaced Aluwani Mbedzi with Laymond Muleya.

Academy were re-duced to 10 men two minutes later. Matlodi Kgetege was given his marching orders for a dangerous tackle.

Academy did not lose hope, despite the set-back. They continued to fight collectively, until they found the equal-izer in the 69th min-ute. Lethabo Rangata headed home, following scramble within the box.

The coach of Joe Maweja, Mr M Phadu, and his Academy coun-terpart, Mr J Mogowe, were given their march-ing orders in the 74th minute.

The two exchanged abusive words in front of the assistant referee, who immediately alert-ed the referee.

Maweja reclaimed the lead when Khumbudzo Muvhango scored with a half volley in the 79th minute. Maweja intro-duced Morgan Makhu-vha for Mulisa Ramu-sia later in the game. Their third goal came via Nndwamato Ndou three minutes before the final whistle.

Convincing victory for Joe Maweja

Winning minor games is vital, but winning a derby gives spark to a team for the remain-der of the season.

It will be an invigorating con-test at the Makhitha Grounds when Makhitha Iya Runga col-lide with Makhitha Oscar Stars. Both teams come into the derby in impressive form, with Makh-itha Oscar Stars in the first po-sition with 45 points, while Iya Runga are in the third position with 42 points. Both teams have played 17 games so far.

Several prominent matches will take place this weekend in the Safa Vhembe MMK Ad-ministrators' League. Limpopo Mirror's reporters have picked the following matches that are expected to attract spectators.

One of the MMK Administrators League affiliates, Tshakhuma Na Ndilani FC, received a donation for 25 golf shirts, 11 pairs of soccer boots, five soccer balls and 13 pairs of shin guards to the value of R14 000 from a local businessman, Mr Nnditsheni James Mukwevho of Real Paints and Chemicals. The ceremony during which the donation was presented to the team was held at the Levubu Rugby Stadium last Friday afternoon. Tshakhuma Na Ndilani are currently leading Stream D. Makhitha Oscar Stars streng-thened their position on the log of the MMK Administrators League, when they beat Ma-dombidzha Western Stars 2-0 on Saturday on Sunday.

The first 10 minutes of the game saw Western enjoy more ball possession, with the defence of Oscar playing with their backs against the wall. Western gained momentum as the first half ap-proached the halfway mark. At that stage, Oscar were playing

defensive football.Oscar scored their opening

goal in the 29th minute. Leavy Matshavha sent a good pass to Thusani Luvhengo, who was on target with a fine header to bring the half-time score to 1-0.

Western Stars came back strongly in the last half, while the boys from Makhitha initiated some promising moves from the centre of the pitch. Phumudzo Mafukata was lucky to escape with a verbal warning after kick-

ing Sydney Luvhengo of Oscar Stars. The Makhitha lads cooled the ball down in the middle of the park, giving their opponents no chance in the last 25 minuts of the match. Lennox Mabila of Oscar was on target in the 80th minute. Andries Masingi of Western missed a sitter when he was left with only the keeper to beat. Western’s captain, Silas Rammbona, was given a red card for allegedly beating the referee when he blew the final whistle.

It remains to be seen whether Baroka FC will rise to the occasion and beat the Absa Pre-miership League side, Chippa United. They will meet in their Nedbank last-32 match at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London on Sunday afternoon.

Both Chippa United and Baroka failed to impress last weekend. Baroka drew 0-0 with Highlandspark at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, while Chippa United lost 0-3 to University of Pretoria.

Mamelodi Sundowns will host Highlandspark at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria and United Rovers will entertain Mpumalanga Black Aces at the GWK Stadium in Kimberly. African All Stars will visit Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. On the same day, Welkom will host top-flight football when Sibanye Golden Stars play the NFD side, Mbombela United, at the Clifford Stadium.

The Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, clash at the FNB Stadium tomorrow after-noon and KZN Milford United will make a short trip to play the Absa Premiership side, Golden Arrows, at the King Zwelithini Stadium. Golden Arrows are in top form after beating Platinum Stars 1-0 at the same venue last Sunday.

Magezi FC will lock horns with EC Bees at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London. The coach of Magezi FC, Mr Joel Mongalo, has sent a warn-ing to Bees. Mongalo said that they were already

Black Leopards are sliding dangerously down the NFD league log. They lost again when Royal Eagles beat them 1-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadi-um in Pietermaritzburg last Saturday.

The goal that earned the Eagles three valuable points came in the sixth minute. Eagles were award-ed a penalty after Katlego Mphela was brought down within the box. Siyanda Ngubo made no mistake from the white spot.

Thanda Royal Zulu used their home-ground advantage to beat Cape Town All Stars 1-0 at the Umhlatuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay. Matshepe Kumane scored from a free kick three minutes before the half-time break.

There was a real thriller at the Puma Rugby Stadium in Emalahleni when Witbank Spurs lost 2-3 to FC Cape Town. The home side were the first to draw the blood via Thabang Rooi in the 18th minute. The African Beasts fought back two minutes into the last half through Siphiwe Gwala.

Bongani Mathebele scored the second for FC Cape Town in the 67th minute, but Thabang Rooi was on target again a few moments later. The visitors from Cape Town took the lead again via Solly Stevens in the 88th minute.

It was a tight and evenly contested game with few chances at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in Phuthaditshaba where African Warriors played to a goalless draw with Mthatha Bucks. Highlandspark rose to the occasion and held the logleaders, Baroka FC, to a goalless draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Although they were the first to find the net, Moroka Swallows gave away league points to Milano United at the Dobsonville Stadium in Jo-hannesburg. Tshepo Moloto scored for Swallows in the 24th minute. Gregory Roelf scored for the Cape Town side in the 44th minute. Morne Davids scored United’s winning goal later in the game.

Makhitha too good for Western Stars

The end of Baroka’s Nedbank dreams?

Another NFD defeat for Black Leopards

Siyanda Ngubo scored the Royal Eagles’ goal from the penalty spot.

Vasco da Gama lost 0-1 to Amazulu at the Parow Park Stadium in Cape Town, thanks to Zaid Patel’s header in the 79th minute.

preparing for the last-16 stage, saying tomorrow’s fixture would be a formality to them. Magezi are the current logleaders in the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League.

Free State Stars will battle it out with Ajax Cape Town at the Athlone Stadium. University of Pretoria will be at home for their match against Polokwane City Rovers.

Two matches will be played this evening. Bidvest Wits will be home against Bloemfontein Celtic, while Steenberg United will meet Platinum Stars at the Cape Town Stadium.

The coach of Magezi FC, Mr Joel Mongalo.

Investigation into Mara escape continues

Muhuyu Stars are the Vision champions

The police’s provincial spokes-person, Col Ronel Otto, said that the investigation into the cause and circumstances around the escape of a suspect from police custody continues.

This follows after a 25-year-old suspect, David Rhaetsi, es-caped from police custody when he was being escorted back to the cells at Mara Police Station

a fortnight ago.“It depends on the nature of the

case,” Col Otto said. “A specifi c time frame cannot

be given.”The circumstances around the

escape of Rhaetsi remain vague. However, there are allegations that the suspect’s escape might have been made easier by the fact that there is a staff shortage and

of resources such as leg shackles, handcuffs and police vans at the police station.

Meanwhile, Col Otto could not confirm those allegations. Instead, she had confi rmed that a suspect arrested for illegal hunt-ing escaped after being escorted back to the cells.

Investigation into the matter continues.

In their Vision U/13 Soccer League match at the Vondwe XI Bullets grounds on Sunday, Mukula Young Avalon narrow-ly beat Makonde Young Tigers

1-0. The score was not a true reflection of the game as Tigers were by far the better side when it came to ball possession.

The Tigers’ bulldozer strik-er, Mukovhe Munyai, caused numerous up-s e t s i n t h e game. In the first instance, he beat the off-side trap but hesitated for too long to unleash unti l he lost possession at the edge of the box. As if that was not enough to irritate the fans, Munyai caused another upset when his volley missed the target by inches.

T h e g o a l t h a t e a r n e d Young Avalon three valuable points came in the 28th min-ute. Humbulani Nenguda was on target, fol-

lowing a neat pass from Maduvha Mutwanamba.

As part of their many ways to neutralize the opponents, Young Tigers introduced Mbulawa Mbengeni for the weary Andani Munyai early in the last half. Kevin Mphidi of Avalon was booked for a dangerous tackle three minutes into the last half.

Young Tigers realized that it was not their day when they missed a fortune in the 59th minute.

They were awarded a penal-ty after Thendo Rantsana was brought down within the box. Mukovhe Munyai tried his luck from the penalty spot. The keeper of Avalon, Maluta Gadivhana, braved the shot and executed a brilliant save.

Avalon were also awarded a penalty in the 75th minute. This after Ndivhuwo Matshaya was brought down within the box. The keeper of Avalon, Maluta Gadivhana, took the responsibil-ity of taking the penalty but he shot straight to the Tigers’ keeper.

The results for the other league matches played at the same venue earlier that day are: Vondwe Ju-ventus 2, Mukula Young Santos 1 and Muhuyu Mudzunga Stars 0, Tshififi All Stars 3.

Home Defenders out of Mayoral CupMagau United proceeded to the semi-finals of the Zoutpansberg stream of the Makhado Mayoral Cup when they beat Gogobole Home Defenders at Ramantsha on Sunday.

They played to a goalless draw and United beat Defenders 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out.

Although United are one of the hot favourites for the title, the game was a thriller from the onset. Their tall striker, Phumudzo Silika, who would normally score more than two goals within the first 45 minutes, could not live up to the fans’ expectations as he was tightly marked. He missed a sitter in the 25th minute.

Rotshidzwa Madima of United was reprimanded with a card for obstruction in the 34th minute.

Defenders were out of touch throughout the second half. They were lucky not concede an avalanche of goals during the last 45 minutes as Defenders started the second half at a very fast pace, giving the opponents not a moment to breathe.

The visitors' striker, Rudzani Mulaudzi, should have scored in the dying minutes, but his shot hit the crossbar and bounced back into the field of play. Defenders introduced Thama Tharini for Tshimangadzo Phadziri, but his introduction did not change the complexion of the match.

Mbengeni Mbulawa of Young Tigers controls the ball, while Khakhutshelo Kharivhe of Young Avalon tackles him from behind.

Mutshidzi Phuluwa of Young Avalon kicks the ball, while Muimeli Rathsivhadelo of Young Tigers blocks the way.

Black Leopards were booted out of the lucrative Nedbank Cup KO Competition when Maritz-burg United beat them 3-1 at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday evening.

Leopards showed no respect to the PSL team, as they enjoyed more ball possession throughout the first half. United, or The Team of Choice, abandoned their positions and packed themselves at the back.

They relied on counter attacks and in the 16th minute their captain, Kurt Lentjies, caught the Leopards’ keeper, Avhashoni Tshinuna, napping and beat him with a long range volley.

United continued to play defensive football,

even after scoring their fi rst goal. That gave Lidoda Duvha enough attacking opportunities and Leop-ards found the equalizer in the 24th minute when Ruggert Nyundu blasted in a rocket, following a brilliant pass by Mxolisi Ntshingila.

The referee, Mr Bafana Mosia, fl ashed the fi rst yellow card in the 54th minute. Khunadi Nkoana, the Leopards midfi elder, handled the ball inten-tionally and was lucky to escape with a mere cau-tion. A breakdown in communication among the Leopards defenders gave rise to United’s second goal in the 70th minute when Bandile Shandu beat the keeper with a half volley. Leopards replaced Mxolisi Ntshingila and Morgan Shivambu with Bongani Manana and Marubini Manyane respec-

tively. Things turned against Leopards when they were reduced to ten men in the 74th min-ute. Thivhavhudzi Ndou was given his marching orders for obstructing Bandile Shandu within the box. The referee also awarded a penalty to United. Lentjies com-pleted his brace from the white spot. Leopards went down fi ghting, but could not fi nd the back of the net again.Photo right: Gregory Maasdorp of Maritz-burg United is chal-lenged by Thi vha-vhudzi Ndou of Black L e o p a r d s . © M u z i Ntombela/Back pagepix
