<p> In 1527, after a long marriage to Catherine of Aragon (Spain), King Henry VII only had one surviving child, Mary Tudor. Henry believed that he had to have a male heir. The Catholic Church does not permit divorce, but Henry wanted a male heir. So Henry asked the Pope for an annulment, or cancelation of the marriage. The Pope refused to give Henry the annulment. The Church of England Anne was a very educated woman, who refused to give in to the Kings demands. She had two stillborn children before she suffered a miscarriage of a male child. She did give birth to Elizabeth I, future Queen of England Henry was growing impatient with Anne and so he declared that his marriage was a product of witchcraft and had her imprisoned. She was accused of incest, adultery, and high treason. Executed Anne by having her beheaded.
