Growth Mindsets

Growth Mindsets

In last week’s newsletter I had some examples of ways we can encourage children. Using encouraging phrases often helps children to keep trying even when things aren’t “great”. It also acknowledges that the effort, the attempt, the act of having a go and working on something is worthy of acknowledgment, even if it doesn’t always work out. Here are some more examples of encouraging phrases and comments:

• I wonder if there is another way you could try to make that work.

• I enjoyed playing together with you today.

• I know you are finding this hard. Perhaps there is another way.

• Could we do this bit together to keep you going?

Parent Opinion Survey

Each year the Department of Education conducts a Parent Opinion Survey. 15% of the school community are randomly selected to complete the survey. It is very important that parents complete the survey as the information is used to make school improvements.

The surveys have been sent home today with the Snippets.

The school and parents are a partnership for the development of all children. This is one form of feedback that helps us improve our school.

The survey will take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. If you would like assistance to

complete the survey please contact Mr. Tactor

SchoolMate App for iphones and ipads and Android phone.

The Department of Education has release an App which is designed to help you better understand the curriculum we use to teach your children every day.

The App, called SchoolMate, is available for free to download from the App store for iphone and ipads or from Google Play for Android devices.

SchoolMate gives you a general overview of the Victorian curriculum. It provides parents with:

An overview of what your child is learning in each subject area at each year level according to AusVels. Tips regarding acitivities and things you can do at home to help your kids in each subject and year level. Suggested apps, books, events and activities related to each subject area and year level.

Victorian government schools. Our teachers adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of our

COLLECTION NOTICE

All schools in Australia, including Independent and Catholic schools, will participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability this year.

The Data Collection is an annual count of the number of students with disability receiving educational adjustments to support their participation in education on the same basis as students without disability.

All education agencies are now required under the Australian Education Regulation 2013 to provide information on a student’s level of education, disability and level of adjustment to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training. Data will continue to be de- identified prior to its transfer and no student’s identity will be provided to the Australian Government Department of Education and Training.

The collection of this information from the states and territories will inform future policy and program planning in relation to students with disabilities.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Irene Ballard on 51271512 or the Victorian Department

of Education and Training Data Collection Hotline on (03)9651 3621. For questions after the 7th August 2015,

please call the Australian Government Department of Education and Training on 1300 566 046.

Syringe

A syringe was found in the MELC car park recently. It is very important that if your child finds a syringe that

they report this to an adult. Could you please talk to your children about the dangers of used syringes in

public places.

Chicken Coop

We are looking for some assistance with the renovation of the chicken coop. Wire fencing is going to

be installed to make the area bigger. However, we do need some volunteers who are handy with this

sort of job. We are not sure when this will occur but we are hoping it will be completed within the next

month. If you are able to assist please contact Mr. Tactor.

EARN AND LEARN

Dear Parents,

I am pleased to inform you we have registered for the Woolies “Earn and Learn” Program again this year. As you may be aware we have been rewarded with many valuable items in past years.

I am hoping you are able to support our participation by placing your Sticker Sheets, and/or, stickers into the box provided outside the Library near the office. We have included a sticker sheet in Snippets this week and I will endeavour to leave sufficient copies in the spare notice stand at the front office. You can collect stickers from Woolies when paying for your shopping there.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Mrs Jenny Jones –Earn and Learn Co-0rdinator.

Grade 5/6 Green Market

Last term the Grade 5/6 students explored the theme of sustainability. As part of the unit, students formed groups to research, make and market an environmentally friendly product. Groups have made a range of products including:

dog wash lip balm moisturizer piggy banks ice-cream tie dyed shirts rock candy weed killer bath bombs candles bubbles

Students have worked very hard to make the products from natural ingredients and to label and market them professionally.

The Green Market will be open from 2.15pm to 3.15pm in the breakout area on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30

th

July.

The Grade 5/6 students would LOVE for all parents and children to come to their green market and purchase items. Prices will range from 50c and to $10.

FOOTY TIPPING

We are now into round 16 and it seems that Mr. Rilen has decided to surface with his head just above water to keep him in the game. The Tactor Family 2 are still in the lead on 89, sharing second place is the McCartney family and the Baker family with a score of 86 and, YES, you guessed it, in third position is the man himself, the one and only Mr. Rilen with a score of 85. For full leader-board and table scores please check the noticeboard, 3/4 wing and 5/6 wing. Thankyou and happy tipping.
