BLOCK ASSEMBLY PROJECT USES PRECISE 1/4” SEAMS. TEST YOUR SEAM ALLOWANCE BY CUTTING (2) 2-1/2” X 5” RECTANGLES. STITCH THEM TOGETHER ALONG THE 5” LENGTH. AT THE MIDPOINT, MEASURE ACROSS THE UNIT. IT SHOULD BE EXACTLY 4-1/2’ WIDE. IF NOT, ADJUST YOUR SEAM ALLOWANCE AND REPEAT.

BORDER ASSEMBLY MEASURE WIDTH AND LENGTH OF THE QUILT TOP TO ENSURE B, D and C BORDER SIZES, BELOW ARE OUR CUTTING SIZES.

FINISHING Cut batting and backing 3” larger than top on all sides. Layer backing, batting and top together and baste or pin. When quilting is completed, trim excess batting and backing. Bind as usual.

11. Sew (1) C 4-1/2” x (54-1/2”) strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) C 4-1/2” x (50-1/2”) to the top and bottom of the quilt top.

Star Blocks1. Place (1) D 3-3/8” square on top of (1) C 3-3/8” square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square. Sew 1/4” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line. Cut the two squares apart on the drawn diagonal line to make two D/C Units. Trim to 3” square. Repeat to make (40) D/C Units.

2. Repeat Step 1 with (12) D 3-3/8” squares and (12) E 3-3/8” squares to make (24) E/D Units. Trim to 3”.3. Follow the diagram below to make (1) C/D/E Star Block using (8) E/D Units and (8) D/C Units. Make three. Square to 10-1/2”.4. Refer to Quilt Diagram5. Sew together the (3) C/D/E Star Blocks and (2) C/D Star Blocks, alternating them to make the Star Row.

Planet Panel Block6. Sew (1) A 11” x 23” panel on each side of (1) E 1-1/2” x 23” strip to make top section. Repeat to make the bottom section. Sew the top section, (1) E 1-1/2” x 22-1/2” strip and bottom section to make the Planet Panel Block.7. Sew (1) E 2-1/2” x 46-1/2” strip to each side of the Planet Panel Block. Sew (1) E 2-1/2” x 26-1/2” strip to the top and bottom of the Planet Panel Block.

Quilt Assembly8. Sew together the Planet Panel Block, (1) B 2-1/2” x 50-1/2” strip and the Star Row to make the quilt top.

Borders9. Refer to the photo for the orientation of the color gradation to sew (1) B 1-1/2” x (50-1/2”) strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) B 1-1/2” x (40-1/2”) strip to the top and bottom of the quilt top.10. Sew (1) D 1-1/2” x (52-1/2”) strip to each side of the quilt top. Sew (1) D 1-1/2” x (42-1/2”) to the top and bottom of the quilt top.
