    Figure 3 SIU Architecture

    When a 8K DSND is used as a stand-alone system, up to 64 SS7 links and 1,440

    trunks can be accessed simultaneously.

    SIU supports online expansion.5

In the CRBT system, SIU processes SS7 calls.

    3.1.2 CRBT Server

As the core of the ZTE MyRing system, CRBT SERVER communicates with SIU

via TCP/IP and has service processing performed in the CRBT SERVER, including

execution of CRBT logic programs, service data provision and so on.10

The CRBT SERVER is based on the general-purpose computer platform and adopts

the large-scale commercial database processing techniques. To be specific, the high-

performance Unix/Linux server and disk array are employed to operate in a cluster.

The large-scale commercial database system including Sybase or Oracle is selected

so as to ensure data's reliability. The system can be expanded in pairs when needed.15

Object-oriented and fault-tolerant techniques are used to realize dynamic service

upload. Call processing won't be interrupted during online software upgrade.

The key components of the CRBT Server are all hot-redundant so that single-point

failures can be avoided. To improve the system's processing capacity, add more

CRBT SERVERs, and configured more servers, if necessary.20

Service functions of the CRBT SERVER are presented below:

    1.  Tone access control; voice prompts to users who wish to access to the CRBTsystem and call control for the front-end switch.

    2.  User data management, including personal data inquiry and modification.

    3.  Service and service function management.25

    4.  Billing for usage of services such as downloading & upload of ring back tones.

    3.1.3 Interface Message Processor (IMP)

An IMP helps the CRBT system connect to the SPs, Customer Care System, Short

Message Service Center (SMSC), and Prepaid system, providing related user service

    data and service registration information.30

Hardware parts of the IMP are hot-redundant.

    3.1.4 Web Server

The Web Server performs the WWW management function and WEB service

function. With this WEB service function, users are able to set up, download and

upload ring back tones conveniently over the Internet.5

Hardware parts of the Web Server are hot-redundant or load sharing (for large

    capacity).

    3.1.5 CDR Server

Via the CDR server, the CRBT center is connected to the billing center. This brings

very high security to the CRBT host, and favorable isolation between the CRBT host10

and the billing center is provided. CDRs generated then are saved as files on the

CRBT host and the billing collector.

    3.1.6 OAM Console

The OAM console performs operations & maintenance on the SIU, CRBT SERVER

    and IP.15

    3.1.7 Intelligent Peripheral (IP)

The IP system is composed of: IP switch (contains MRB voice unit) and background

    voice server.

The IP device is actually a ZXJ10 (V10.00) switch added additionally with a new

type of shelf. At the each shelf, 6 tone units are configured and each tone unit is20

composed of a VPB and an MRBH card. For each MRBH card, a 32G external

storage is configured. The system architecture is as follows:

Figure 4 Block Diagram of IP Switch & Access and Tone Server

MRBH communicates with a VPB via the dual-port RAM of the standby card. The25

VPB card has 120 tone-playing channels and can exchange with DSNs of the switch.

Within each VPB, a DTMF digit receiver is configured.

Each tone unit communicates with the MPPP COMM card of the switch via the two

time slots of its 8M HW. The two 64kbps communication channels operate in an

active/standby mode and when the module is initiated, establish two semi-permanent30

connections with the two channels of the COMM card.

    ZTE Confidential Proprietary Page 19

When a 16K DSN is used, there are 123 idle 8M HWs except 4 for communication

and 1 for system self-loop test.

All the tones are stored in MRB unit. A MRB unit contains an MRBH card (with a

hard disk) and a VPB (or FAX) card, helping perform functions of tone

recording/playing, DTMF digit receiving, and tone compressing/uncompressing.5

The MRBH card is to communicate with the background tone server. On one hand,it receives messages and tone data from the Voice Server and controls the VPB to

perform the corresponding operations. On the other hand, it returns VPB's operating

results or recorded tone data to the Voice Server. The MRBH interacts with the

Voice Server via the network using a 1000M or 100M Ethernet card. Between it and10

the VPB, the dual-port RAM is used. The MRBH can order the VPB to record/play

tones and receive digits, provide data for tone playing, and send data to the Voice

    Server via the recording channel.

The VPB board is responsible to receive commands from T-Net's MP and MRBH

with a dual-port RAM, bring status of each time slot under control and report to MP15

via T-Net and MRB via the dual-port RAM.

The VPB sends messages and data to the MRBH intermittently and receivesmessages from the MRBH by means of periodical inquiry. DSP then helps control

tone recording/playing at the dual-port RAM regularly.

    3.1.8 Voice Server20

The voice server is used to save and manage tones. Via the LAN, it communicates

with the MRB and performs tone storage, playing, maintenance and management for

CRBT users. And between the server and the storage device, double fiber channels

are used for connection, bringing a data transmission rate of 200Mb/s. In addition,

special disk array and the RAID0/1/5 backup mode are employed to ensure high25

    reliability.

    3.1.9 LAN Device

The LAN device of the system takes the form of two Ethernet switches to form two

independent LAN planes. Such major devices in the system as CRBT server, IMP,

and OAM can be connected to the two switching networks at the same time. When30

any one primary device on LAN has a single-point fault at the network side, the

system automatically starts the standby LAN plane device, to ensure that the single-

point faults occurring in LAN communications have no fatal impact on the system.

The system uses a highly reliable router to provide an external interface. Multiple

kinds of expansion boards can be selected flexibly according to different35

requirements, and multiple interfaces such as DDN, X.25 and CE1 are provided. It

has such advantages as diversified interfaces, easy use and security and reliability.

    3.2 Software Architecture

    3.2.8 IP

IP software includes the contents and function from four aspects:

    1.  Signaling processing software, it runs on IP and realizes IP basic function processing.

    2.  Operation and Maintenance Interface software, it runs on back end OAM device to5

configure IP, make data statistic and monitoring.3.  Voice Storage software, it runs on MRB and VMS to complete RBT storage and

     playing.

    4.  Monitoring software, it provides monitoring software, monitors IP running statusand reports alarm information in real-time.10

    4 SERVICE FEATURES

The Coloring Ring Back Tone (CRBT) service is to play a fragment of music,

advertisement or words predefined by the called subscriber himself/herself to thecalling subscriber before the called subscriber hooks off so that the calling

subscriber hears no longer the tedious toot tone but the coloring ringback tone set by15

the called subscriber in the system.

These individualized coloring ringback tones are predefined by the called subscriber.

They can be the ringing tone/music provided by the system, or the tone file pre-

recorded by the called subscriber through the CRBT system, or the tone file

downloaded in advance by the called subscriber via the network to the CRBT20

    system.

    4.1 Personal Ring Tone Library

The subscriber can build a personal ring tone library with his/her own style and

unique personality. A personal ring tone library stores the personal ring-tone data of

a subscriber using the CRBT service. It is available only to the ring tone library25

owner. The ring-tone data stored in the library is either uploaded by the subscriber or

purchased from the SP, which may be a recorded message, music or a song. The

maximum number of files allowed for upload by the subscriber depends on the

    subscriber class/level.

For example a common user may buy or upload 5 ringtones in his/her personal30

ringtone library and a VIP user can buy or upload 10 ringtones depending on the

operator configuration of the user grades (user grades are defined in detail ahead in

    the document).

    4.2 Default Ring Back Tone

After the user commissions the CRBT service, the system will automatically play a35

default ring back tone to replace the common ring back tone if the user has not set

any ring tone, and the user cannot set and delete this ring tone.

    4.3 Selecting a Default CRBT

The default color ring is the one played in the case of no special setting, including

the default ring back tone and the ring back tone to be played at any time and in the40

case of any number as set by customers.

Users set a default color ring which can be a sample chosen from the existing color

ring database of the system. After the user finds a music file from the database, it

can audit it and confirm its choice, or else, it can continue to select other music files.

4.4  Selecting a Color Ring for the Caller

Users can set some personal CRBT for special callers. After they have set CRBT5

successfully, the system judges the caller of each call and plays the preset music

segment for the corresponding caller as the color ring back tone.

The way of selecting the music file is the same as that of setting the default color

    ring.

Users can be classified as different levels. For example, users can be classified as the10

personal user and enterprise user by type, and the personal users can be classified as

the VIP users and common users by monthly rental levels.

The users at different levels can set different quantities of CRBT callers. For

example, common personal users can set the CRBT for ten phone numbers, VIP

personal users can set the CRBT for 20 phone numbers, and the enterprise users can15

set the CRBT for 50 phone numbers.

4.5  Function of Calling Number Group

The CRBT users can group the calling users by friends, relatives, townsmen and

colleagues, and set different ring back tones according to different number groups.

Users manage the personal number groups through websites, and a calling number20

can only belong to a caller number group.

Same as the limit on the quantity of calling numbers, the users at different levels can

limit the quantity of their color ring calling number groups and that of the numbers

    of the number groups.

4.6  Customizing Ring Back Tones by Time 25

The ring back tones can be customized by time, and different ring back tones can be

played in different time segments, any time segment by default. The playback time

can be several fixed time segments every day, or some day or some days every

week/every month/every year. For the calls outside the time segments set by users,

the system plays the default Ring Back Tone.30

4.7  Random/Sequential Playback of Color Ring Tones

Users can set personal ring tone group, each of which can involve several ring tones.

For the playback of ring tones in the ring tone group, users can set the ring tone playback rule: random playback or sequential playback.

    4.8  CRBT Duplication  35

Users can duplicate the ring tones being used by other users in many ways. When

User A hopes to duplicate the color ring being used by User B, User A can duplicate

the color ring of User B through WWW website, WAP website and dialing of voice

access number. When the user sets through various channels for the first time, the

system should confirm with the user if the duplication by other users is allowed.40

    4.9  CRBT Presentation

A subscriber can give forth a ringback tone as a gift via the website or voice access

code to other subscribers, for example, he/she can send a ringback tone to his/her

friends or relatives (who must also be CRBT subscribers), upon receipt of which the

friends or relatives will receive a short message to get notified that they can use this5

ringback tone free of charge and set it for their calling numbers. The service fee of

this ringback tone will be paid by the party who gives it away as a gift to others.

5 INTERFACES WITH EXTERNAL S YSTEM

The interfaces of the ZTE MyRing system with other systems are as follows:10

      Interface with Provisioning system

      Interface with Billing System

      Web based Interface

      Interface with Prepaid system

      Interface with SMSC15

The figure below shows the interfaces of ZTE MyRing system.

Figure 5 Interfaces of ZTE MyRing System

5.1 Interface with Provisioning SystemZTE MyRing system can be connected with the Provisioning (Business Operation20

Supporting System) system. It implements such operations as service subscription

and de-subscription, activation and deactivation, user number modification and

modification of user value-added service attribute jointly with the accounting system.

The interface between the MyRing system and the accounting system can be HTTP,

TCP/IP or SOAP based protocol. ZTE can customize this interface as per Operator ’s25

    requirement.

    5.2 Interface with Billing System

ZTE MyRing system can be connected with the billing center. The backgroundserver provides the CDR information, and collects it through FTP using the billing

collector on a regular basis, and then transmitted to the billing center. The

customized billing processing software can be easily developed according to the

detailed description of CDR formats and parameters provided, for the billing

departments to use in statistics and revenue allocation.

5.3 Web-Based Interface5Three kinds Web pages will be provided to the Operator:

Management web page with right control

    Content Provider uploading page

Subscriber account management page for end user

Basing on Operator ’s requirement, ZTE will do the web page customization before10

CRBT service launching. The Operator will maintain web page and change web

page style after CRBT service launching.

    5.4 Interface with Prepaid System

If the CRBT service subscriber is of prepayment, the interface of the prepaid system

is involved for subscribing/de-subscribing and activating/deactivating as well as15

deducting the fees of the prepaid subscribers. There are generally two forms of the

interfaces between the ZTE MyRing system and the prepaid system: real-time

deduction interface and non-realtime deduction interface. The realtime deduction

interface means that the ZTE MyRing system needs to originate a request for real-

time fee deduction to the prepaid system in real time when the prepaid subscriber20

subscribes the CRBT service or orders the ring tones, and the prepaid system returns

the deduction result and the ZTE MyRing returns the service processing result to the

subscriber in real time. This interface can take the form of the MML real-time

interface based on TCP-IP between the ZTE MyRing system and the prepaid system

or other interface as per Operator ’s requirement. The non-realtime interface means25the ZTE MyRing system generates the subscriber CRBT service rent CDR, and the

prepaid system obtains the CDR from the ZTE MyRing system through FTP and

deducts the rent according to the CDR.

5.5 Interface with SMSC(Short Message Center)

ZTE MyRing system can be connected with the SMC or SM gateway, to implement30

the functions of the SMS’s color ring management, such as service subscription/de-

subscription, ring tone ordering and setting of personal ring tone. It follows the

SMPP (Short Message Peer to Peer) protocol with the existing SMC.
