National Railways of Zimbabwe Director Marketing Elector Mafunga observed that the rail transport business has changed over the years due to a number of factors obtaining on the market. And this therefore means that the approach to wooing customers must change too, if the railways have to survive and increase the share on the market. "The wagons are been manufactured from the scratch and tailoring them to suit the customer needs for Intermine operations" he said.This project is aimed at responding to the market needs of our customers, who require specific type of rolling stock for movement of their goods.This innovation is been carried out by Zambia Railways at the Engineering Division, Kabwe Main Workshops. Zambia Railways has a total fleet of 2,094 wagons and so far about 91 wagons have been rehabilitated.

OUR NEW PASSENGER TRAIN SERVICESZambia Railways has introduced two state of the art trains namely Zambezi and Kafue

Ordinary Passenger Trains that will be traversing between Kitwe and Livingstone twice

weekly.The Zambezi Train has facilities such as sleeper compartments, business, standard and economy classes. Also on board are television sets, music system, showers, flushable toilets, snack coach(restaurant) , air-conditioned coaches and conveyance of various parcels and household goods. The passenger trains with the state- of- the- art facilities still remains the cheapest and,therefore,most affordable to the common person.Zambia Railways is also operating the Commuter Train running between Lilayi and Ngwerere including all the stations between the two areas in Lusaka. This train service is helping the local authority in decongesting the roads in the city. Zambia Railways is also operating the Mulobezi Passenger and Livestock train service.Zambia Railways is determined and committed to improving the social welfare of the people by providing an affordable transport service for passengers. ZRL is currently providing passenger train services to an average of 200,000 people per year.

The Minister toured the stands where traditional foods where displayed showing the locally prepared beer known as 'katata' and 'katubi' as well as locally grown crops.
