FORWARD

BY PETER NDIBOE

Executive Director, Founder

With God Grace, Its profound time that I would really love more

people to simply know how serious it is to be in a complete

family social inclusive, WHY, It is unreachable sadness after being

in the street for thirteen years without one to lean on, After A

decade being in the street with all abuse done by street family I

would say I was lucky to be a complete reformed Street boy

with well-focused future, Audaciously I would say I have the right

toolkit in my heart for Street Child transformation leadership that

will leave a Landmark Legacy , and now it’s Big-Time for me to

Give back to the Street-Child Family and Holistic community, My

pledge is to all society to accept us and inclusively work with us to

develop and reverse the lost hope in our Street Families. After 6

years Volunteer ship I got the pillars for Trust Foundation

establishment, which am concerned with Street Families

Empowerment, skills development ,volunteer ship, Education for

the Street-Child Character Competence Initiative, Healthy, Family

reunion, Mentorship programs, Tapping Un Tapped Talent

development (Arts/Culture), Feeding program, Shelter and all that

cut across the Street Families. Because this is what leadership

means! I think ZSCF is the only opportunity that would be able to

build a Sustainable world on the bedrock of Street-child who will

impress various sectors of development and become a great human resource of this Nation and world.

ZSCF will be the most diverse Social Education and Experiential Learning institution in Kenya and the rest of the world.

(ZSCF) is committed to designing the Grass-Roots connections to development and necessary to support its position as a

Learning and Social Development Street-Child Hub of Kenya and beyond. While the Crucial (ZSCF) 2018-22 programs focus

on the Street-Child Institutional Establishment Home and its surrounding neighborhood, ZSCF aspires to broader regional

implications. (ZSCF) is the centered in metropolitan vicinity that encompasses all Sub-Counties of Nairobi and more

National outlook with the view of connecting to all Kenya Counties. The 2018-22 ZSCF seeks to address the ZSCF Financial

Monetary Assistance (FMA) to the Establishment and Construction of the (ZSCF) Institution Home in the Next 5 Years; this

will be through (Government, Loans, Well-Wishers and Grants Donations) to make this project successful.

It is with great pleasure that we offer your organization a valuable and respectable opportunity to support our Street-Child projects through funding and also becoming Our New-Life Changing partner in our programs.

JOYCE WACHIRA

Social-Sustainable-Community Development Strategist (SSCDS)

Service to humanity has been part of my life

and has played a significant part both at a

personal and professional level. Growing up in

a Christian family and my father being a

reverend he taught us to help people in need

always because service to man is service to

God. In my teen i would volunteer in taking

care of neglected old people in the community

and also in my high school and college i was a

member of Red Cross club. After college i

volunteered in various NGO as a social worker,

my reasoning behind deciding to work in the

streets is innate desire to see others succeed

in fulfilling their potential. Although it feels

somewhat of a cliché, my passion and desire

for the field of social work originates from a

genuine wish to make a positive difference in

people’s lives.

As i became an adult i learnt that Social work

is more than just home visits but an

opportunity to touch lives no matter where

they are and relate to their trials and triumphs.

I am a non- judgemental person and have

realised that different people face different

problems and in the streets counselling,

mentoring and spiritual growth are key value

to impact the families. Through my role as a

social worker I have thrived on the many

challenges presented and derived immense

satisfaction through enabling others. In the

middle of difficulty lie opportunities, reason

for the quote is empowerment of people living

in the streets. This is by supporting them start

small businesses which helps them earn a

decent living and move out of the streets.

Being an Alternative Thinker and

Natural Social Strategist, I do

believe with our Almighty Maker

that With His Promise, Tremendous

Street-Child Revolution will Mark

the 21st Century Revolution

Landmark that will exemplify the

world Ignorance to the Street-Child

Globally.

ROBERT WAMBUGU

Certified Broadcast Journalist/IT Specialist

My struggles in life made me develop a passion to be a voice for the voiceless! I believe that one does not

need to have it all to impact the lives of street and vulnerable children. To me the best way to practice

journalism, music producer, Documentary and Free-lance to the voiceless and underprivileged Street-

child in the community ,basically my boldness is to address the problem from the core problem and set

public platform for the Street-Child Voice to be heard

loud and clear. I am proud to be part of the ZSCF

team in fighting the cause of street-Child and

vulnerable children through advocacy and

fundraising to support their social and educational

needs.

Photography and films can never face a technical

glitch because it is blessed with superpowers of an

inspired natural call. A wanderer by heart, Robert

Wambugu found his passion in film production

after spending couple of years in the software and

Music Production Industry business. My level of

experience varies from handling music video, ad

films to feature films. Post a brief stint with ad

agency Contract Advertising and I decided to take

the plunge. Some of the brands he’s worked with

are True D, Olay, Green City and Currently with

Sage-Wood Film Production industry.

As one of the world's most groundbreaking and

talented documentary filmmakers, there's a good

chance you have already seen True D work. If you

haven't, a good place to start our Production

Studio is yearning for Award-winning doc that

takes a look at livelihood and fascinating lives of

the often-overlooked backup by upper community.

My documentary on Gospel Music: Sage Wood

will be premiering soon. I'm particularly looking forward to new Untapped upcoming Music Talents,

documentaries, Acting to prod and develop more talents

I believe that my strong motivation towards achieving my goals to reach the

needy is combined with practical experience and a passion to protect, invest and

empower others. Having been brought up in a Christian family and reaching out to

the needy is my duty and my experience has shaped me into a caring, generous,

patient and empathetic individual who would often see the well-being of others

who are deprived in one aspect of their lives or another as my responsibility.

I am an accountant by profession and have worked for different organizations

whereby i happened to work for an NGO and partly did social work. My reasons

for wanting to become a social worker are quite varied, the main one being to

assist people in realising their potential and helping them reach their goals, and at

this stage of my life I believe the experiences I have gained are extremely

transferable in terms of working with the street people; mostly drawn from my

profession as an accountant. This has installed in me a level of professional

commitment, dedication and empathy by using my skills to help the street persons start small business and be accountable and better their lives.

Street-Child Home Policies and Procedures Should Support the General Intent

Behind the Value Based Home Institutional Social Development Programs of the

Zero Street-Child Foundation committed Programs.

The intent of this standard is to convey the critical need to ensure that Street-Child Institutional

Development will provide to all Street-Child persons within the Institutional Home facility that offers

equal basic and social livelihood services in a safe and socially- inclusive environment. Also this understood

in this standard expectation of the facility will be operated under legal requirement by County

Government of Nairobi .ZSCF will actively engage in efforts to revolutionize the high rate of Street-

Child Increase in urban set-ups and improve human Social-Seclusion in holistic human development. The

facility operation certified and monitored by all legal Government bodies. The Government goal of these

efforts is to uniquely provide value Based Street-Care and policy Services to the status of rare events

that will attract all Street-Child from all parts of the country and to reduce the behavioral negligence

and downplayed syndrome on Street-Child that have prompted social solidarity transformation, and,

wherever possible, to entirely eliminate the use of restraint, ethnical, racism and faith based approach.

It is the experience of the Zero Street-Child Foundation) Administrative unit to be conversant and

responsible of behavior handling of Social-seclusion and restraint for purposes of managing

transformational change that would significantly be reduced through the creation and maintenance of

social environment which promote hope, value, recovery, rehabilitation and the empowerment of Street

Child, and identify implementation strategies to advance positive behavior management and restraint

reduction efforts, incorporate strategies in hiring or workforce development practices to advance these efforts,

and emphasize the Character Competence education Initiatives and sensitization of staff regarding the risk

and safe use of nurturing ethics for valued service delivery. It is therefore Zero Street-Child Foundation

expectation of the Home Institution facility will develop, and actively implement, policies and procedures

that encourage profound credible outcome

Street-based Programs. Street-based programs are focused on children who are abandoned or have

irregular contacts with their families. Agencies implementing this approach reach out to children right on

the street where they live and work. This strategy recognizes the child's need for survival, protection, and

income, but ultimately, it aims to motivate and assist the child to go back to his family or to enter a

temporary shelter.

and reintegrating Street-child Back to their Family and Re-uniting

them to join Family for good social Care. OBJECTIVE 2:2 Street-Child Rescue Mission that improve childcare from

hostile environment in Kenya.

OBJECTIVE 2:3 Street-Child Family Visit that improves

Monitoring/Evaluation and Follow-ups to know their wellbeing.

Unfortunately, many of

these children belong to

poor families who are

unable to provide for their

basic needs. High rate of

unemployment, increasing

prices of basic commodities

and lack of access to basic

services worsen the

situation where many Street

boys and girls live. At an

early age, children learn to

make a living not only for

themselves but also to

augment the income of the

family. Many of them are

forced to make the streets

their home, their workplace

and their playground. These

kids are popularly known as

street children.

Because of the circumstances

they are in, street children are

faced with quite a number of

problems such as

homelessness,

undernourishment, different

illnesses, lack of education,

lack of identification papers,

substance and alcohol abuse,

smoking, gambling, sexual

abuse and exploitation, the

worst forms of labor, sexually

transmitted diseases including

HIV/AIDS, physical injuries due

to vehicular accidents, street

fights, and harassment by the

police and extortionists. In

order to survive these

situations, they form groups or

going with gangs to survive.

However, it is the gangs that

expose and influence them to

commit petty crimes, and maybe

later, eventually lead them to do

bigger crimes.

On an annual basis, street Children almost 30 of them die due to Abuse of Drugs, through accident, Gangs Conflicts, Criminal activities, Diseases (HIV) Transmission, Prostitution, and other related activities as been on the increase that needs a high Concern. .Key Strategies Theory in Rehabilitation Psychology

Rehabilitation psychology, one branch of the broader discipline

of psychology, relies on established theories aimed at preventing and

treating drug disability and chronic illness. Some theories are

drawn from the wider discipline; others represent applications or

extensions of this existing knowledge, while still others are developed in response to the particular health needs of

individuals or groups. The distinction between research and practice is relevant here, but the two categories are best

construed as continuous rather than discrete activities. Ideally, practitioners rely on theory-based research in their everyday

clinical duties. For their part, researchers acquire direction for theory-building by working closely with organizations and

with street-child who live with disabling health conditions. Thus, rehabilitation knowledge flows both ways; theory

advances practice, and vice versa.

Challenges of Street-Child Implementation

Influence of Health on the implementation of the rehabilitation of street children Most street children have deteriorating health

conditions,) nutrition has an effect on psychosocial development, operating primarily through its impact on attention,

responsiveness, independence, irritability, and affect. Nutrition is one of a complex factors operating to influence that development

and associated behaviour in children. There is a kind of spiral effect in which food intake, providing energy and needed nutrients,

increases the physical and mental growth of the child and hence the child‘s ability to interact. Food should be effectively channeled

in accordance with the psychological requirement of different age groups. The problem of malnutrition or under nutrition is due to

various vitamin deficiencies and lack of protective foods. Both qualitative and quantitative dietary deficiencies are very common

amongst the street children because most of the children have a monotonous and insufficient diet. The street child only cares about

survival; he/she gets anything that is available so as not to sleep on an empty stomach.

Food is an essential upkeep to the Street-Child Family that needs robust planning to reclaim their mental health and livelihood

Causes of the street children phenomenon are categorized as follows: Immediate Causes (Factors which have to do with the children and family):

Poor and large families

Irresponsible parents

Inadequate housing/poor housing facilities

Family conflict Congestion in slum areas

Family environment Inadequate housing/poor housing facilities

Child himself Economic, political and ideological superstructure

Traditional family values which dictate that girls should merely stay at

home Ineffective access to basic services

Emerging social values conflict with traditional values Underlying Causes (Factors which have to do with the community):

Ineffective access to basic services

Family environment

Inequitable distribution of resources and opportunities in the community

(e.g. land ownership Poor law enforcement/exploitation by administrators

Congestion in slum areas

Social environment

Poor law enforcement/exploitation by law enforcers Cultural Development

Deterioration of values Recreational Development

Central body provides no/few activities for children Root Causes (Factors which have to do with society):

STREET-YOUTH SOCIO-ENTREPRENEURSHIP ENGANGEMENTS

Job creation, employment and Socio-entrepreneurship Street-Youth unemployment, underemployment and poor wages can have

long-term adverse impacts on human, economic and social capital. They can trigger a vicious cycle of intergenerational poverty

and vulnerability that can adversely impact on sustainable human development. Economic hardship coupled with lack of

opportunities to meaningfully participate in the society puts Street-youth at risk of long-term social exclusion; this compromises

community social cohesion and can lead to economic instability. Increased attention is needed to ensure Street-youth effective

transition from street to decent livelihood income. In post-crisis environments in particular, early economic revitalization and

livelihood strategies are critical to stabilization and to rapidly provide incomes to sustain livelihoods and recovery. This also

addresses social cohesion in the communities. Zero Street-Child vocational training lack the relevance and quality to prepare new

entrants for currently available jobs, let alone for future jobs, which will require more technology skills, innovation, adaptation and

flexibility. ZSCF ‘Youth and Skills: Borrows government manual jobs that requires less skills, e.g. Eco-entrepreneurship, Garbage

collection, Sanitation of drainage systems, Tree-planting etc. to emphasizes the urgent need to invest in skills for youth that will

enhance their employment opportunities.

CONCLUSION The streets harbouring numerous health risks and being the habitat of street children, offering health/medical care is essential with the goal of ensuring that the street children are void of any infectious especially any contagious conditions that would put others at risk, it also renders the street children in a fit medical state to proceed to the other rehabilitation stages. This makes health an essential stage of the rehabilitation process and should be an initial step of the process. Education‘s influence on the implementation of street children rehabilitation is also very significant because it provides useful knowledge and skills and also provides structure through the different schedules which cultivates routine and discipline in the implementation of street children rehabilitation. The rehabilitation parties should be well vetted so as to eliminate parties with false or ill intentions and they should adhere with the law requirements so as to smoothly operate to the maximum benefit of the street children. They should also bear adequate resources for instance have personnel with the necessary expertise for the implementation of street children rehabilitation. The psychotherapy sessions offered are invaluable because they tap into the root problem of why there is quite a high turnover in rehabilitation centres and it is apparent that it is due to the inconclusiveness of the rehabilitation process whereby the street child may still be disturbed and traumatized by experiences in the street that do not feel like they fit into the ―normal‖ society and series of life activities and events or because of background difficulties that make the resistance to reintegration back to family and the community hence those just being key examples of the popular situations, psychological rehabilitation provides a sensitive approach to revealing concealed fears and experiences to light and also issues that can be resolved and has become highly invaluable to the implementation of rehabilitation of street children. Based on the gaps

above, the following were some of the recommended actions in the implementation of rehabilitation of street children
