This past summer we began t wrk with Prmesa deVida (Prmise Lie) Presbyterian Church in Ciudad Juarez,Mexic. We have learned that ver 10,000 childrenhave lst at least ne parent thrugh vilence; many weremurdered, while thers just vanished.

There are many pprtunities arund the church t reachut t these children. We are planning a meal prgram tiedt a study time r rphaned children and r thse beingraised by single mthers. A ministry t pregnant teenagegirls is needed as well, especially since the teen pregnancy

rate has dramatically increased in recent years.

WORRIED ABOUT MEI was so worried about being cold. And hungry. And

not having a cozy sleeping arrangement. About beingdirty, and messy, and just plain uncomortable.

The car was ull as we headed to the hills o Tennessee or a weeko Disaster Training. Good boots, warm socks, comy sleeping bag,hand-warmers, any-sort-o-anything rom REI I was good to go. Mycollection included everything I would ever need to be as comortableas possible in the middle o nowherepreparing to go where people

have nothing. Then it hit me: How many children go to bed every night cold?

And hungry? Without a cozy sleeping arrangement? And dirty, messy, and uncomortable to boot? Whose well-being am I moreconcerned aboutmine or theirs? My very temporary loss or theiroten permanent state?

David Platt, in his bookRadical, states that we aregood at ignoring otherpeoples children. I would add

that we are good at ignoringother people, period. Maybethats why Jesus spoke so muchabout loving other peoplemore than ourselves, aboutputting their needs beore ourown, about loving selfesslyand responding generously tothose in need.

Maybe I do need to worry

more about me. About the methat will stand in ront o myLord as He asks: Did you eed the hungry? Did you look ater the orphans

and the sick? Did you help the widow? Did you visit those in prison?

May my lie and actions assure

that I will have the right answer.
