ALMAMATER

The University of Mississippi

Way down south in Mississippi,

There’s a spot that ever calls

Where among the hills enfolded.

Stand Old Alma Mater’s Halls.

Where the trees lift high their branches,

To the whisp’ring southern breeze.

There Ole Miss is calling, calling,

to our hearts’ fond memories.

What isOrientation exists to assist new students and their families by supporting their transition to life as a part of the UM community – academically, socially, and culturally.

In this session you will have the opportunity to meet classmates, faculty, staff, administration, and learn about campus resources and services that will help make you successful while you’re here.

Your WebID and password are used for all university systems.

Here are some of the most important ones you should know:

myolemissThe myOleMiss portal is used for registration,

viewing grades, updating phone or address, viewing financial aid, advisor assignment,

bursar bill, and more. Go to my.OleMiss.edu then enter your WebID with the password.

UMGmailAll UM students are issued an official

@go.olemiss.edu email address when they are admitted. This is the primary means of

communication from the administration, instructors, and advisors. Make sure you check it often!

BlackBoard

Blackboard is a mobile and web-based learning management system many

instructors use to share content, post assignments and manage grades. Students

also use Blackboard to keep track of coursework, due dates and schedules.

Download the app free or log in at blackboard.olemiss.edu.

Student ID contains your student # (used for many things including

registration), a bar code (scanned for Flex, Plus 1, and attendance for some

courses), and your photo.

!You will have an academic advisor assigned to you who is either faculty or a professional advisor depending on your major: www.olemiss.edu/myadvisor.

Each semester you will have an advisor hold placed on your account. You must meet with your academic advisor each semester to have this hold lifted prior to registering for classes.

Meet with your academic advisor. After meeting with your advisor, you should have courses provided to you to help you fulfill the requirements of your degree program. You will use this list to register for classes.

Know when your registration window opens for the next term in order to register. This is the specific date and time in which you can register for upcoming open terms. For optimal course availability, it is recommended that you register as close to your registration window as possible.

Once the course schedule comes out, you should review it in advance of your registration window for the courses you and your advisor discussed. The course schedule is the listing of courses for the entire campus and can be found here: www.olemiss.edu/courseschedule. You will place your preferred courses in your favorites. This is a shopping cart for your schedule. You will need to place any course you plan to register for in your favorites.

Once your registration window opens, you will utilize your favorites list to add your preferred courses to your schedule. When you have completed your schedule, it can be found here: www.olemiss.edu/myschedule. Be sure to have alternate courses available so that registration goes smoothly.
