The Healthy Heart Score gives you an indication of how healthy your heart is. It predicts your risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in the next 10 years.

How to improve your Healthy Heart Score and get to Green status FAST!

Decrease your blood pressure by:

• Losing extra kilos and watching your waistline.

• Eating healthy food and maintaining an active lifestyle.

• Reducing salt in your diet.

• Limiting alcohol to two drinks per day.

• Managing work stress through proper planning and avoiding office politics.

• Sleeping for at least 7 to 8 hours a night.

Lower your risk of getting diabetes by:

• Controlling your weight.

• Working your muscles more often to improve their ability to use insulin. Don’t sit down for extended periods of time.

• Reduce your sugar intake.

Stop smoking as it does this to your body:

• Robs you of some of your good cholesterol.  

• Temporarily raises your blood pressure.

• Increases the blood’s clotting chance.

• Makes it more difficult to exercise.

Control your cholesterol levels by:

• Choosing healthier fats and eating heart healthy food e.g. food rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

• Limiting the cholesterol in your food.
