• There will be no formal teaching in these two weeks

• Access Arrangements in place

Extended Learning Hours

- After school from 3.15 – 4.30 pm

- Students are expected to attend if they have been asked to fill gaps in knowledge

- To be treated as an extended day

- Offer a late bus for transport

LORIC is a group of tasks and challenges set out to develop skills and attributes to be a successful Ridgeway student.

Students will be accredited for five essential attributes. These have been especially chosen to develop specific skills and are noticed by colleges,

universities and employers. They are:

Learning ConversationsThe aim of the conversations are;

• Reflection and expand student capacity to learn

• Identify what hasn't worked and eliminate those barriers to student learning and progress

• To identify the way forward and the strategies needed to achieve this

• To set goals and monitor the pathway to achieving them





In addition, students reflect on their cycle report and identify subjects they have made progress in and why (WWW)

They then identify what improvements they need to make for the next cycle (EBI).

What can parents do to help across BOTH GCSEs?

• Talk to your child about their set texts, encourage discussion about characters, plot etc.

• Support and monitor homework/independent study.

• Quiz your child! Test them on their poems/set texts.

• Encourage your son/daughter to read as much and as widely as possible

• Read set texts at least 3 times prior to the exams

• Read a variety of newspaper articles and non fiction texts to prepare for Language GCSEs.





What should students be doing?• Reading everything – all the time!

• Write under timed conditions

• Reflect, edit and improve essays – respond to feedback.

• Be proactive with revision.

• Start learning quotations off by heart. Use cue cards to pick out and memorise key quotations.

What does the Science curriculum provide?

Ridgeway scientists who are knowledgeable, confident, curious, can link ideas and are resilient problem solvers who enjoy science.

Excellent outcomes which enable students to take the next steps in their education.





2 Different routes: • Combined sciences (trilogy): Students will study all three disciplines across the two years. This will culminate in 6 exams (2 in each discipline) and students can end year 11 with 2 science GCSEs. • Separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and

Physics): Students will have separate lessons and teachers for each discipline covering slightly more material in more depth than those in combined. This will culminate in 6 exams (2 in each discipline) and students can end year 11 with 3 GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
