How can we be resilient in school?

Below is an example of how someone can be resilient in school…

Jordan had the results back from his math assessment ‘You have achieved: 52/100’.

He really wanted to get over 70 marks to reach his target level and was very disappointed

in himself, so much that he felt like giving up! The teacher gave Jordan some feedback on

his test and encouraged him to keep trying. Jordan was determined not to give up, he did

lots of revision and challenged himself in lessons in preparation for his next assessment.

It was a huge achievement for Jordan when he found out he achieved 78/100.

Come up with two of your own ideas of how you can be

resilient in school. Use the key words box to help you.

2.

In small groups, choose one idea a turn it into a role

play. Ask you mentor to take photographs. Tweet them

What’s been in the news?

How has this person been resilient?

Timothy Nigel Peake is a former regular British Army Air Corps officer (now a Reservist)

and a current European Space Agency astronaut.

He is the first British ESA astronaut, the sixth British-born person to visit the Interna-

tional Space Station and the seventh British-born person in space. He began the ESA's in-

tensive astronaut basic training course in September 2009 and graduated on 22 November

2010

Upon graduation from Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1992, Peake served as a platoon

Commander with the Royal Green Jackets. Peake became a qualified helicopter pilot in 1994

and a qualified flight instructor in 1998. In 2005, he graduated from the Empire Test Pilots

School in Wiltshire and was awarded the Westland's Trophy for best rotary wing student.

Peake completed a BSc (Hons) in Flight Dynamics & Evaluation at the University of Ports-

mouth. Peake left the army in 2009 after 17 years of service and over 3,000 flying hours to

his credit, becoming a test pilot with AgustaWestland.

Peake beat over 8,000 other applicants for one of the six places on the ESA's new astro-

naut training programme. The selection process included taking academic tests, fitness as-

sessments and several interviews. Peake moved to Cologne (Germany) with his family for the

training.

Peake was launched to the International Space Station (ISS), on 15 December 2015, for

Expeditions 46 and 47. He launched successfully at 11:03 GMT from Baikonur Cosmo-

dromeon board Soyuz TMA-19M.

My Story

Create your own story about a character who shows resilience.

It can be any type of story and might even use the characters

from your favourite book.

You can either write your story below or create a storyboard on the

next page.

Your mentor will choose the most creative stories to publish on Twitter

#resilienceatridgeway

11 Team challenge: Work in small groups to role play your story boards!

#resilienceatridgeway Reflection...

Reflecting on term 3, think about the examples of

people who have been resilient and what they have

achieved.

Looking back at your mentor group’s first #resilienceatridgeway tweet in

term 3, howhas your view on resilience has changed?

Create your final tweet, showing what you have learnt about resilience. This

tweet must be completed as a whole mentor group.

You might want to consider:

The examples of people who have been resilient and what they have

achieved.

How you have shown resilience this term and what you have achieved

by doing this.

How you present your final tweet e.g. photographs, role plays,

posters etc. You can be as creative you like.
