Conversation with PRINCIPAL :

Q. Sir, what has been your experience since you took over as the principal of our college? A. It has been my nature to gain an in-depth understanding of any new system that I come across. So spent a lot of time in the beginning few weeks and made a note for myself about present academic system, sports, extra-curricular activi-ties, health center and several other points. I found need for a massive change in all those aspects. I took priority in re-storing academic system first. Starting from restoring regular conduction of classes, made changes in the system to fol-low given tasks as the work loads. During the last one and a half years we have set bench marks on every thing and how we feel JSSATEN is all set to excel in the coming years. It has been a hard work changing the attitude of every one to perform well. I had to conduct countless meetings with faculty, non-technical staff to shift their view towards achieving excellence. I feel it was a long journey of over 18 months to sense this minds of change. A lot more is in the pipeline to implement over next one year. Q. Sir, please share your views about Mechanical Department A. Students in mechanical engineering have a lot of zeal and strength. I am touched by their hard work on designing and fabrication of racing cars. Bringing a project of this magnitude, realizing simulation, visualizing and working as a team is marvelous. This team spirit brings leadership, multi-dimensional skills and positive thinking. I am glad that mechani-cal engineering students and faculty are working very well and I appreciate their team spirit.

Q. As an institution, how much have we grown through the years? A. Our institute has not grown according to the changes around the world and the problem lies in the thinking of the stu-dents. Our institution has got four awards from different agencies in last three years but I myself feel that we are incom-plete in many segments. We have grown to certain extent and we can grow beyond. Now we have research center pro-gram in every department and are organizing international seminar, workshops as we have massive auditorium of 1000 people seating capacity. Our institution is really making vertical growth and in another one year we want to be known as No. ONE institution.

Q. Sir, besides academics, extra-curricular activities also help in overall personality development of a student. Your suggestions to promote them? A.During four years, I shall not advocate students only to study. Developing a kind of affection to particular extra-curricular activity will keep you hale and healthy. This institution is providing you lot of opportunities for performing music, drama and also provides a platform for sports, indoor games and gym facilities. I am glad that students have won prizes in IITs and other colleges. But these things should not mix with studies. You have to be disciplined and manage the time efficiently. Q. As the head of the institute, what message would you like to convey to the students? A. Firstly, the students should always remember that their parent’s future depends on their performance. They have sac-rificed all money and leisure to get their children education. Secondly, at the end of studying a course you should intro-spect yourself what and why you have learnt and where will you find its application. Thirdly, practical aspect of a field is very critical. So proper attention should be paid during labs. Lastly, students should have positive attitude and broad thinking. They should look for global opportunities and not just local.

Dr. T N Nagabhushan has been serving as Principal of JSS Academy of Technical Education,

Dr. Rajesha S Prof & Head

Q. Sir, please throw some light on recent achievements of students and faculty which have glorified our dept. A. Since I took over as head ,there has been a significant development in the department. The faculty is currently in-volved in a lot of research work owing to which a grant of 16.85 lakhs has been bestowed upon us for research. The students too have been more regular and focused academically .We are also working hard to be recognized by The Na-tional Board of Accreditation so as to enable horizontal transfer of our students. Entrepreneurship workshops are being organized to motivate students to become employers rather than employees .

Q. What measures do you suggest should be taken to improve the decline in the recruitments of ME depart-ment ? A.I agree there are now limited opportunities for students especially in core companies during this critical time of econ-omy . Our aim is to provide long term stability rather than short term employment. Hence we do not want to compro-mise on the quality of the company .Other than this, students must become more focused so that they at least fulfill the eligibility criterion. Q. Sir in your view, are industrial visits beneficial in providing exposure to the students? Should it be made a part of our curriculum? A. Most definitely. Industrial visits add expertise and practical knowledge to students. Hence our department has decid-ed to conduct two industrial visits each semester for all years from the subsequent semester. Q. What message would you like to convey to the students? A. Firstly , I would suggest that students should follow the instructions of the department and regularly attend classes and lectures. Secondly, I would want them to take laboratory lessons earnestly. Students must understand that lab does not mean noting down readings ,it means one should get into the depths of the experiment by being inquisitive and framing questions. The recent achievements of the Department : Student: Mr. Sidhant Bansal's (V B ) paper titled "Design of mass-sensor based on resonant frequency analysis of a single walled nanotube” has been accepted for presentation at ITMMMAAAE-2014. Mr. Ishan Sahu (V A) presented a paper at Gurukul Kangri University Haridwar titled "Hydrogenation and dehydro-genation of La-Nis”.

Dr. Rajesha S, of JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida, has outstanding academic record

and Industrial experience. He obtained Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) from

Mysore University, and Master of Technology (Maintenance Engineering) from VTU, Belgaum.

He was awarded Ph.D. in Manufacturing and Production Engineering from IIT, Roorkee. He

served industries at different position and is now serving at JSSATEN, as a faculty since 2002. He

is supervising 2 Ph.D. thesis and 3 M.Tech dissertations. He has published / presented 26 research

papers in International and National Journals and Conferences. He has 2 patent disclosures in

Hybrid Manufacturing Process. His research interests include Advanced Manufacturing Processes,

Hybrid Finishing Processes, Microwave Material Processing, Metal Matrix Composites and Ad-

vance Material Science. He has one AICTE sponsored research project under progress. He has

wide administrative experience as coordinator of various activities at department as well as at Insti-

tute level and served as a Convener, Board of Studies and Convener, of Research Degree Commit-

tee in Uttar Pradesh Technical University, Noida (UPTU).

Research Grant

The demand of advanced materials is increasing in diverse fields of society due to their excellent me-chanical properties. These materials offer various advantages and machining them is always a chal-lenge, due to the uneven hardness and material properties. The development of micro channels on such materials is the new area of research. Currently, our Department has carried out a research on aluminum alloy metal matrix composite material in which machining was done on the developed metal matrix composite by Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) method and the focus is study and analysis of process parameters influencing the formation of recast-layers thus produced during the EDM ma-chining. In this emerging area, a new research work is proposed by the department in the area of mi-cro channel development by Advance Hybrid Machining and a research grant of Rs.16,85,000 has been awarded by the AICTE under Research Promotion Scheme (RPS) for the financial year 2013-14. Why JSS Noida has a great importance

in my life is not just because I spent four years, which I had not spent in any of my schools, or because I got on-campus placement. It is because of learning and challeng-ing path ahead of every step, which powers the muscle of students to tackle the hardships of outside world. With an in-house CNC machine, PLMCC and other scope available, a JSSATENian gets vast exposure of technology and information i f uti l ized to ful lest . And the most important place of College is Library. In the first year I hardly visited that place, but later on I real-ized its motivating atmosphere to learn, with a huge col-lection of books and other resources available. Those four years went by very fast, as in JSS Life Never Stops. Air of NCR boosted with industrial/ technical training and cultural activity/competition available in this region by Great institutions like IITs & NITs, opens the door of energy and better prospects than any other college can provide. Industries like BHEL, Caparo, Honda, Alstrom , NTPC-Badarpur, New Delhi & NTPC-Dadri, DRDO, Man-ufacturing company like Advance steel limited , Software Companies like Motherson -Minda, osome SSIs etc welcome students from JSS and teach them the best of industry fun-damentals. Most admirable Culture of College: - removing hesitation from people coming from different regions of s t a t e a n d o f d i f f e r e n t b a c k g r o u n d s . College Societies play a vital role by giving immense op-portunities to students for flourishing their hidden talents and brushing their skills. I am still in continuous touch with Yantrashilpa Society after being away from college from last 15 months; it is just because we become a strong family during 4 years. Friends, apart from knowledge we earn a lots of friends and relation through this institute.
