KS2 District Athletics

Last Thursday evening a hugely talented selection of children took part in

the District athletics at Edmonscote. These children had already faced

competition within their own year groups as they competed for the first-

Year 5 Leading Tennis

Last week, all of Year 5 walked to Leamington Tennis Club to train to be

leaders in a tennis competition. They spent an hour before lunch learning

the rules and how to be a good leader before embarking upon their new

leadership role during the afternoon.

The children were absolutely fantastic. They were fair, clear, worked as a

team and most impressively of all, were encouraging to all the children who

took part. It was a brilliant opportunity for Year 5 to showcase their

leadership skills and we were extremely proud of their performances. Well

done to all of Year 5.

Y3/4 Sports Festival

Last Friday, I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to take 14 Year 3

and 4 children to Milverton Playing Fields for a Personal Challenge Sports

Festival. The children were able to take part in a round robin of events

such as:

The Viking Throw Speed Bounce

Goal Shoot Space Hoppers Obstacle Course

The children attempted each event twice, trying to better their score the

second time. They were free to choose the order of their events and even

got a biscuit break. The sun was shining too which definitely helps!

Thank you to our Sports Ambassadors Sonny Ludbrook, Jasmyn Green,

Naomi Marshall, Tamsin Squires and Remy Newman, who also came along to

run the space hopper event. They carried the hoppers there, encouraged

children to take part and once again demonstrated their fabulous

leadership skills.

Well done to Ella Christie, Marcel Cwalina, Margarita Makris, Tom

Maurhofer, Arabella Swanson, Bea Goddard, Benji Griffiths, Alfie Claude

Gerrard Purse, Reuben Petty, Jacob Bates, Naina Gill, Matilda Savage and

Wilbur Peake

Thank you to Mrs Swanson, Mrs Savage and Miss Mobbs for attending the

afternoon with us.

Marathon Kids Celebration Event

As a thank you for being leaders of the Marathon all year, Year 5 attended

a Marathon Celebration Event held at Edmonscote Race Track. The

children got to:

Play team games Join in a Martial Arts class

Page 6: Y5/6 Netball

and run laps of the track

Unfortunately the weather was very much against us and we all got rather

wet. The children were however, absolutely fantastic. They wanted to

keep on running! Resilience has been such a strong element of all areas of

our curriculum and we witnessed that in abundance in each and every child.

We were so proud of their efforts and their determination to have fun,

whatever the weather.

At the end of the morning, all of the children

received a T-Shirt and Isabella Underhill won an

award for ‘Most Improved Runner’ over the

course of Year 5. She really has worked hard to

achieve a record distance this year. Well done!

A special thank you must go to Mrs Sispal for helping out in difficult

conditions. She also kept the children going, offering encouragement and

support. Thank you from all of the Year 5 team.

Y6 Kwik Cricket

Ten Year 6s were lucky enough to go to Edgbaston Cricket Club for the

Kwik Cricket finals but unfortunately the rain was torrential. Brookhurst

weren’t deterred by the weather, our resilience shining through but sadly it

prevented the other 9 schools who decided against it! Fortunately thanks

to the amazing organisers, who laden with goodies for the children,

managed to secure a tour around the club including taking us to the top of

the stadium - the Skyline. This was no mean feat as security was tight due

to the forthcoming New Zealand Vs Pakistan World Cup game on Thursday.

The rain continued to pour and once the Pakistan team finished practicing,

we were allowed to practice indoors in the nets.

Page 8: Y5/6 Netball

The surprise for the day was England cricketer, Keaton Jennings who

arrived to play games with the Year 6s, gave his top tips and also fielded

many questions. Keaton kindly signed all their cricket t-shirt’s. A different

day but one the Year 6s will never forget. The Year 6’s have to be

congratulated on their behaviour throughout the day also receiving many

compliments on their cricket skills. Well done to Alfie Saxton, Josh Smith,

Finn Kilpatrick, Will Burns, Zach Bevan, Fraser Williamson, Charlotte

Pickering, Ned Burges, Maddie Pride and Jessica Pearn.

If you’d like to see The Ashes trophy and our signed cricket bat, they are

on display in the cabinet in the foyer.
