Social Explorer provides easy access to demographic information about the United States from 1790 to the present.
It features over 15,000 interactive data maps and reports, as well as a full-featured reporting engine that makes demographic research fast, easy and comprehensive.

Social Explorer also provides historical census data that is hard to obtain or requires extensive processing to make use of.
It takes this data and makes it easy to use.

You can easily generate a map of census data.

This map shows unemployment across the United States in 1980.
You can zoom in to a particular area.

As well as looking at data from one particular census, it is easy to build a slideshow showing how one aspect, such as urban population, changed over time.
Click on the slide holder at the bottom to save the current map.
Then change the date,…

…and repeat the process.

In this way, you can build up a slideshow of, for example, the growth of the urban population in the nineteenth century.
These controls allow you to play the slideshow faster or slower in the main panel.
You can also export the slideshow to PowerPoint.
