Description:The Woodglen Lake Dredging & Restoration project was substantially completed on November 18, 2015. The project consisted of removing sediment from the lake; stream restoration above the lake, improving an existing access road to the lake, landscape planting and trail modifications around the lake, constructing a staging area and sediment forebay to simplify future dredging operations, and modifications and repairs for the lake’s principal spillway. Additionally, this project demonstrated the feasibility of spreading dredged sediment as topsoil at the County-Owned I-95 Landfill Complex rather than paying disposal fees to dump this material in other landfills – a significant cost saving to the County. Project Overview:• Remove sediment from a stormwater management lake constructed in 1981, in the Braddock District of

Fairfax County, Virginia• Worked with the I-95 Landfill Complex staff to provide an innovative sediment disposal method• Worked with the Fairfax County Park Authority staff to improve the landscaping and public access to the lake

Project Team:• Stormwater Planning Division - Dipmani Kumar• I-95 Landfill Complex – John Kellas• Maintenance & Stormwater Management Division - Don Lacquement• Fairfax County Park Authority - Ed. Richardson• Land Acquisition Division - Carol Kresge• Utilities Design and Construction Division (UDCD) - James Horstman• Project Inspector, UDCD - Paul Thaler• Survey Analyst, UDCD - Gregory Harper

• Providing a 9,000 CY sediment forebay• Improving the existing access road• Providing truck staging areas

• Provided improvements and repairs for the principal spillway riser• Installed fish habitat structures within the lake• Provides the following annual (estimated ) reductions in the downstream

sediment and nutrient loadings:• Total Suspended Solids (TSS) 14.6 tons/year• Total Nitrogen (TN) 1,075 lbs/year• Total Phosphorus (TP) 67 lbs/year
