2015 Arkansas Women’s Tennis

The 2014-15 University of Arkansas’ women’s tennis team will certainly have some new faces coming into the fall schedule, but the expectations and goals for the pro-gram has not wavered. The Razorbacks have missed out on the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons after recording fi ve straight appearances between 2008 and 2012, and have their eyes set on returning. To do so, the Razorbacks will fuse a group of returning and experienced talent with a group of impact newcomers.

“It’s a combination of excellent experience and talented newcomers, you’ve got a bit of a blend there,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “You’ve got four of the top six returning, and you’ve got four well-credentialed, impact types. It’s an excellent blend of experience and youth.”

Facilities

2015 Arkansas Women’s Tennis

The George M. Billingsley Tennis Center has been the outdoor home of Razorback tennis since its renovation in 2008. The $2.8 million expansion and renovation gives the Razorback men’s and women’s tennis teams a complete facility combining the outdoor courts of the Billingsley Center with the indoor courts of the Dills Indoor Stadium. The outdoor facility includes bleacher seating between the two sets of fi ve courts. Fans can sit in the bleachers and watch matches on either side, or stand on top and view matches on both sides.

Renovation includes locker rooms, offi ces and an indoor club area attached to the Dills Indoor Stadium and connecting the indoor facility with the outdoor facility. The club area includes chair back seats on one side overlooking the Dills Indoor Courts and chair-back seats on the other overlooking the Billingsley Center outdoor courts.

Other additions included scoreboards for the individual courts and a larger scoreboard on the west end of the north set of outdoor courts which will display the scores from outdoor courts one through six.

Facilities

2015 Arkansas Women’s Tennis

The Razorbacks have a proud tradition of providing the best athletic facilities the world can offer, and the Dills Indoor Courts are no exception. Constructed in 1982, the structure was originally known as the University of Arkansas Track and Tennis Complex. In 2002, the facility was renamed the Dills Indoor Tennis Center and dedicated solely to the netted sport, offering the latest to competitive collegiate tennis athletes of today.

The center was renamed and dedicated on April 30, 2002, in honor of Jane Dills Morgan and Nancy Dills Lee, along with Ewell Lee, who made a sizeable donation in the name of Robert “Bob” and Lucille Dills. They were early and long-time supporters of the Razorback program.

The center originally included just four courts, but the renovations upped that number to six. Other improvements included a new ceiling and insulation system, 96 new lamps, resurfacing of all the courts and 12 electronic scoreboards that hang from the ceiling.

When the building was rededicated, massive internal renovations were made to the complex to provide one of the best facilities in the country. With six courts, the indoor complex proved to be ideal when the sometimes cold, unpredictable weather of Northwest Arkansas prevented matches from being played outside.

The stadium seating of the Dills Indoor Tennis Center puts even the most die-hard tennis enthusiast at ease. With more than 500 chair back seats and standing capacity for 200-plus more, the Dills Indoor Tennis Center is one of the largest in the country. Large heaters and an insulated ceiling provide a warm environment in even the coldest of winters, allowing athletes to improve their skills year round. The indoor center includes locker rooms for women’s and men’s pro-grams, coaches’ offi ces and lobby. The facility hosted the men’s SEC Tennis Championship in 1994 and 2008 and the women’s SEC Tennis Championship in 1997 and 2009.

All-American Razorbacks

2015 Arkansas Women’s Tennis

In the span of two seasons, Aurelija Miseviciute rocketed to the top of the collegiate women’s tennis world to become the most decorated and successful women’s tennis player in University of Arkansas history. The two-time All-American, only the third women’s tennis player in school history to earn that status, fi nished her Arkansas career as the leader in career singles wins (125), career doubles wins (86), career singles winning percentage (.886), singles wins in a season (52) and singles season winning percentage (.897). Miseviciute led Arkansas to back-to-back SEC Western Division titles and led the Razorbacks to their highest team fi nish in school history in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. She began the 2008 season with a preseason ranking of 117 and began her climb when she captured the ITA Indoor Championship in 2007. Miseviciute repeated the feat in 2008. Also that year, she reached the national semifi nals in singles - the highest performance by a Ra-zorback women’s tennis player - and the NCAA round of 16 in doubles with partner Ela Kaluder. She also advanced to the quarterfi nals in singles at the 2009 NCAA Tourna-ment. All of her success was noticed as she was honored as the 2009 SEC Player of the Year. She also garnered fi rst team All-SEC recognition in 2008 and 2009. In the class-room she excelled, being named the 2008 and 2009 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. She was also named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America second team in 2008 and was a fi nalist for the Honda Award for women’s tennis (2008 and 2009). Arkansas netted its fi rst two All-Americans in 1999 when Chin Bee Khoo fi nished the year ranked in the Top 20 and Maria Pavlidou played her way to the quarterfi nals at the NCAA Championships in Gainesville, Fla. In 2000, Khoo became the fi rst-ever two-time All-American for the Razorbacks when she advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA Singles Championships in Malibu, Calif. Khoo was not fi nished though. In 2001 she became the program’s only three-time All-American when she was seeded in the top 16 of the NCAA Singles Championships.
