Nurse Aide Training Program With an increasing number of people needing specialized health care services and an aging population, job opportunities as a nurse aide continue to grow. Course is designed to provide students with skills needed to earn certification as a Certified Nurse Aide. The certification will equip students to work in nursing homes, hospitals, and home health settings. This 15-week course combines practical experience in a local nursing home with classroom instruction. Classroom instruction is held at the Arlington Career Center on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Practical experience is held at a local nursing home over several week nights. Tuition of $999 includes textbooks.

We will also cover some trouble-shooting tips.

First Aid and CPR with AED Training First Aid Learn to provide basic first-aid for medical emergencies such as breathing problems; choking, allergic reactions; heart attack; fainting; diabetes, low blood sugar; stroke; seizure; shock. This is a great class for teens as well, especially those who are babysitters. CPR- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and AED Learn vital lifesaving skills, in a fun, very informative environment, hands on training, using cutting edge technology. Participants will meet health/safety standards requirement for a variety of job qualifications. Obtain your American Heart Association Heart saver” CPR certification card and gain confidence for acting in a lifesaving emergency for adults, children and infants. Class includes learning to help an adult, child or infant who is chocking, and the use and AED, a machine with a computer in it that can shock the heart and help it work properly again, improving your chances of saving a victim’s life. Intensive English The program has 10 proficiency levels ranging from beginning literacy to advanced. English is taught by focusing on skills needed to live and work in the U.S. Advanced levels focus on developing English skills within the context of academic subject areas.
Intensive English instruction classes are offered in 120-180-hour time blocks (10-15 hours per week). Class times include morning (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM), late afternoon (4:15 PM to 6:30 PM), and evening (6:45 PM to 9:00 PM). $200-$285

Specialty Classes There are a variety of specialty classes offered to intermediate and advanced level learners. These include Conversation and Pronunciation classes, and classes that combine English language development along with earning a professional certification. REEP is currently offering a ServSafe Food Manager certificate class: English + ServSafe Certification English, Workplace Computer skills, MS Office certification Conversation and Pronunciation TOFEL preparation

Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services: Vocational Rehabilitation Program
The Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS): Division of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) offers vocational rehabilitation programs and services to assist people with disabilities to prepare for, secure, retain or regain employment. Eligibility Criteria for Vocational Rehabilitation Program when all six (6) of the following federal criteria are met.
1. US Citizen, or Non-US citizen who has provided documentation of legal eligibility to work in the US.
2. Have a physical or mental disability documented by a qualified professional. 3. The physical or mental impairment constitutes or results in a substantial barrier
to employment. 4. The individual is presumed can benefit in terms of an employment outcome
from the provision of VR services. 5. Individual live or work in Virginia. Includes living at a Virginia School. 6. VR Counselor determines that VR services are required to prepare for, secure,
retain or advance in employment. Transition and Education Services assist students and youth in the movement from school to the world of work and adult life. DRS works together with students, youth, families, schools and community agencies and organizations to provide services that lead to a successful transition from school to work. NOVA Commercial Driving The ALC Workforce Development Program is a career pathway workforce development curriculum that combines professional training and multiple certificates including:

We work in collaboration with the Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) Workforce Development Program as well as Regional Workforce Development Programs to help students learn valuable professional workforce skills such as résumé writing and interviewing in addition to their chosen program of study. Classes are held at the Alexandria Adult Learning Center and taught onsite and online by NOVA professors. Students network with medical professionals from Inova Hospital and Kaiser Permanente Healthcare System, as well as with engineers from several local power and utility companies such as Dominion Virginia Power.

To assist Clients in finding employment and Unemployment Insurance
To qualify for benefits, Client must have earned enough wages in covered employment during the base period. To qualify for benefits, an individual must have earned at least a total of $3,000 in two quarters in the base period. The “Regular Base Period” comprises the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters preceding a claim’s effective date. Client must be able to work and be available for work.

• An individual has two options when filing a claim for unemployment.

$60 to maximum $378 Once an individual has filed an initial claim for unemployment, he/she has 5 days to register in the Virginia Workforce Connection (VWC). This can only be done over the internet at www.vawc.virginia.gov . The VWC is a tool used to aid job seekers in finding employment. In addition, the VWC is used for reporting purposes to Richmond and Department of Labor (DOL). Like the Workforce Development Center, the VEC will host hiring events as well as workshops on various topics.

SCSEP is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and is one of three federal workforce development programs that does not overlap with any other similar program.
To be eligible for SCSEP, you must be: • 55 or older • Unemployed • Living on a family income of no more than 125% of
the federal poverty level (if you’re not sure, contact a local SCSEP office)
To apply, simply find your local SCSEP office to complete an application. If you’re eligible and there is no waiting list, you will be enrolled to work at a training site.
Training and work: Participants will be trained in all the skills needed to do the job such as
• Child care provider
• Customer service representative
• Teachers’ aide
• Computer technician
• Building maintenance worker
• Health care worker Participants will work an average of 20 hours a week and earn whichever is highest—the federal, state, or local minimum wage. Most participants are with SCSEP for about six months before we help them find a more permanent job.
