December, 2015

Season’s Greetings! It is hard to believe that we are in the last days leading up to the Christmas holidays. WMCI has been an extremely

busy place over the last few months and there are no signs of slowing down! Daily academic studies and the Annual

Awards Night, winning the Junior Boys Volleyball Zone Championship and participating in all the other sports and

clubs, field trips and environmental studies, beginning the weekly nutrition program, fundraising for organizations such

as Christmas shoeboxes, United Way and Food Hampers, and practicing for the upcoming Band and Choir concert, not

to mention prepping for the traditional WMCI Christmas Dinner and Morton Cup!!

Thank you to the many parents and volunteers in our communities who come out to cheer on our teams, encourage aca-

demic achievements, drive students to meetings and practices, and give unselfishly of their time to help our WMCI stu-

dents have the best experiences possible. We are all very busy and sometimes we forget to stop and appreciate the

things in life that are important. During this holiday season, take time to enjoy your friends and family and take time

for yourself. I wish each and every WMCI Warrior a blessed Christmas season and all the best in 2016!!

WMCI basketball is underway with

three games scheduled in December

and a full slate in the New Year. The

first home game is January 7th for

the Senior players, so come out to

cheer them on!

Student Council

All of the Halloween activities went well in October, ending with an in-school dance, and everyone had a lot of fun.

Movember was also a success with several participants in the facial hair competition. Also mustaches were sold as a fundraiser. We had a few fun spirit days such as crazy sock day, jersey day, and fake facial hair day. The student council is busy planning out a fun-filled spirit week for Christmas. Stay on the look-out for upcoming announcements about the Annual Morton Cup and more exciting events.

Warriors for Change

The Warriors for Change ran the Operation Christmas Child

campaign throughout November. They collected 22 boxes

worth of presents to send to children all over the world who

would not otherwise get a Christmas gift this year. Thank you

to everyone who donated! This month the Warriors for Change

turn their focus to the Teddy Bear Toss. Warriors will be sell-

ing Teddy Bears during the week of the Morton Cup.

SENIOR VARSITY GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Six Grade 12 and five Grade 11 girls took to the court for the Warrior Volleyball season. Practices occu-

pied much of September with the official season beginning on Oct. 6th. The girls travelled to Elton, Minne-

dosa and Rivers for their first three games and unfortunately fell 3-0 to all competitors. The Warriors

then hosted four home games in a row against Erickson, Carberry, MacGregor and Neepawa losing all but the match

against the Erickson Eagles. It was a difficult season in terms of injuries and level of competition, but the girls were

very committed to trying to improve at every practice and game! A big thank you to the graduating Warriors for

your involvement and leadership….Kathryn Bresnahan, Danielle Cadieux, Lindsay Dayholos, Mandy Doell, Kelsey

Tonn, and Taryn Winters. To the rest of the girls…Shayla Marohn, Hayley McCaskill, Kira McCormick-Adema, Taylor

Pederson, and Hanna Sollner…see you on the court in September for your last year as a Warrior!

Mrs. Blondeau

JUNIOR VARSITY GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

The Junior Varsity Girls Volleyball team started their season the second week back to school with five returning play-

ers from Grade 10 and 6 new Warriors in Grade 9. The learning curve was steep but the team definitely improved as

a whole over the season. The team played opponents from Neepawa, MacGregor, Minnedosa, and Erickson in a

home/away series. The Warriors split the games 1-1 with Neepawa and Erickson but fell 2-1 to both MacGregor and

Minnedosa. Of note, six of the eight games required an extra set to determine the winner!! The Warriors advanced

to playoffs on November 12 and defeated the Erickson Eagles in the first round. The girls fought hard in the next

round against the MacGregor Mustangs but lost two close sets (25-20 and 25-18) to the eventual Zone and Provin-

cial Champs…..so not too shabby! Good luck to the Grade 10’s: Ashley Emerson , Channing Ferguson, Megan Hall,

Kassidy Jarvis and Audrey Morrison, as they move up to Senior Volleyball next year. Hope to see the Grade 9’s…

Nikki Anderson, Christyn Blondeau, Ashley Doell, Jennica Ejercito, Brenna Roberge, and Amber Starr-Elk next year

back on the court for their final year of Junior Warrior Volleyball!!

Mrs. Blondeau

SENIOR VARSITY BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Things were a little uncertain at the start of the season as to whether or not there would even be a Senior Varsity

Boys Volleyball team! However, five Grade 12’s and 4 Grade 11’s began practicing mid-September. Some of the

players had never played competitive volleyball until this year and so there was a huge learning curve. The Warriors

battled hard all season, improving immensely with each passing match. The final standings for the regular season

saw 2 losses to Neepawa and Elton and a 1-1 record with MacGregor. The Zone finals saw only six Warriors travel

to Elton to take on the Sabres. These six players gave it their best shot but lost 25-18 and 25-15 to the eventual

Zone banner Champs. This was always an entertaining group to be with and I wish the graduating players all the

best. Thank you for your commitment to this great game…..Dallas DeJaegher, Tom Dezall, Clay Ferguson, Lachlan

McCausland, and Carter Schettler. To the other boys…..Phoenix Beaulieu, River Beaulieu, Chris Melnyk, and Dom

Neuschwander…..get ready for your final year of Warrior Volleyball next year!!
