Industry Talk!“Thai herbs are not only precious local wisdom but also the valuable resources. The government has a master plan for Thai herb development to promote sustainability and the economic value of the herbs. At present, Thai herbal products range from health supplement food to beauty products are gaining in popularity, especially in Asia Pacific with more than 9 per cent growth per year,” says Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat, DITP’s director-general.
Thailand, as a major centre for herbal and natural products in the world.
People all over the world are becoming more health-conscious. Besides taking regular exercises, people are paying more attention to what they eat in order to maintain a healthy body. Thailand’s herbal products are not only plant extracts as food supplements, but also animal extracts for cosmeceutical ingredients.
Natural extracts are gaining much popularity amongst consumers of all ages. Likewise, traditional herbal remedy is now looked upon by more and more people as positive alternatives to modern drugs. Indeed, many herbal medicines have been found to cause fewer side effects.
Due to the increasing interest in herbs and the availability of a wide variety of herbs in Thailand, the future of herbal products both locally and internationally looks bright. At the same time, however, competition in the global trade of herbs is expected to intensify as well.
