Albany Med NICU GraduateNow High School Valedictorian
When Roman Hula graduates as valedictorian of Richfield Springs High School in June, no doubt his parents, Amy and George, will recall 18 years ago when they were told their son could possibly have long-term developmental difficulties.
“I can only think of how things for my son might have been so different without the expertise of the Albany Med nurses, doctors and the helicopter team,” said Amy. “I thank God and count my blessings every day.”

Creating a Place to Relax and Remember
The Donna M. Crandall Foundation was established 14 years ago in memory of Scotia's Donna Crandall, who lost a 41 year battle with cystic fibrosis (CF) in 2000.
In her honor, the Loudonville-based Foundation has raised nearly $2 million to support thousands of Albany Medical Center patients living with CF.

'Miracle' Child Now Happy, Healthy After Delicate Heart Surgery at Albany Med
As seven-month-old Joey Slichko sat there, giggling and playing with his toes, his mother couldn’t help but smile.
“Joey is amazing,” Eileen Slichko said. “He’s a miracle!”
For that miracle, Eileen and her husband Joseph of Clifton Park thank Albany Med pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon Neil Devejian, MD.

On a Saturday night in May 2013, 78-year-old Albany resident Antonio Bongiorno had severe stomach pain and began vomiting blood. His worried family called 911.
“When the ambulance arrived, the EMT said he should go to Albany Med even though it wasn’t the closest hospital,” said Mr. Bongiorno’s daughter Debra.
It was a decision that likely saved Mr. Bongiorno's life.
