When I stand before God at the end of my life, I hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and I could say, “I used everything You gave me”.

~~ Erma Bombeck

Erma Bombeck was an American humorist who achieved great popularity for her newspaper column that described suburban home life from the mid-1960s until the late 1990s. Bombeck also published 15 books, most of which became bestsellers. From 1965 to 1996, Erma wrote over 4,000 newspaper columns. The new year is here! What better time to start re-examining the steps you are taking for the future and ask yourself a few questions: Have I achieved my goals to provide the best for my family? Do I re-ally want to be stuck in this dead-end job? Do I have the education I need to improve my employment options?

If you have answered “NO” to any of the above questions; then the FSS Program can help you turn those NO’s into a YES!

A short meeting can help you set things in motion. All you need is the “3-D Vision of Self-Sufficiency”.

Desire to want to move forward Determination to take the needed

steps Dedication to make it happen

If you are ready to make changes in the new year, please contact Brenda Hays at the CHA office: (931) 484-2990 for more information.

A SAFE PET, IS HAPPY PET! Tenants, please remember, if your pet is outside, it must be leashed or tethered at all times. THANK YOU!

The two zodiac signs associated with January are Capricorn and Aquarius. Capricorns, who are born from January 1-January 19 are one of the zodiac’s most energetic and hard-working of signs. Those born under this sign are sure to always reach towards great achievement. Those born from January 20 to January 31 are members of the Aquarius sign. One can identify an Aquarius by the originality that dominates all aspects of their life. For more horoscope fun visit: http://www.famousbirthdays.com/horoscope

We had a great turnout for Santa Pictures this year. The kids had a great time. The smile on the children’s face when they see Santa Claus is priceless. The art table, the free standing “selfie with an elfie”, and of course all the cookies, popcorn and hot chocolate you wanted was a big hit. Nothing puts you in the Holiday Spirit more than seeing the look of excitement on the kids’ faces when they see Santa Claus. Make plans to attend next year and bring someone with you. A special thanks goes to David Potter (Santa) and Cammie Music (Photographer) without them we could not have this every year.

Santa, Mrs. Claus, and Cammie also showed up at the Upper Cumberland Federal Credit Union on Saturday the 10th, to take more Santa pictures. This is the second year that the Credit Union has asked us to come. They gave us a generous donation for our youth programs. We are so thankful for our partnership with the Credit Union. They are a great help to our youth programs at the housing authority.

The Resident Council did a great job with the Christmas Float. They work very hard in all they do to provide their fellow ten-ants much needed food, personal care items and so much more. Anything that is happening they are always right there to pitch in. Thanks for all you do.

Learning Works and TNT kids had a Christmas Party on Friday December 17th. They were picked up at school at 10:00 a.m., had lunch, opened presents and was taken to the Movie Theater. Thanks to the Resident Council, Fairfield Glad Com-munity Church and Proceeds of the Johnny Majors Golf Tournament for making this possible.

Some of our tenants may not be aware that we have a Caregiver Program here at the housing authority. It is a non-medical company that takes care of the elderly and disabled in their homes. It is NOT a sitter service. They cook, clean, run errands, bathing assistance, laundry and so much more. We also have a home-delivered meal program. We have some great hard working employees and I am very thankful for all they do. If you are looking for a job, and this sounds like something you would be interested in, go to the main office and fill out an application. Call Gateway at 484-4546 if you have any questions.

The Young Marines needs Volunteers! The young marines meet twice a month in the CHA Activity Cen-ter. They need adults to work with kids as well as do data entry on the computer, help maintain equipment and assist with over-sight of the youth on travel outings.

If you have the ability to help, please step forward and Contact Don Alexander at 484-2990

Participants in parade: Mr. Don Alexander, Paul & Sandy Davis, Shirley Persons, Cary Waters, Lisa Redwing, Danny Free, Tim Mead-ows, Katie & Chris Merill, Marie Budern, Wayne Reese

A leaky faucet that drips one drop of water per second can WASTE 2,600 gallons of water per year.

Reporting a leaky faucet can SAVE 9.5 gallons of water per day!

Winter Operating Hours January thru April Monday thru Friday 7:00 am - 8:00 pm *Last load must be in by 7pm*

Wash: $1.75 a load Dry: $1.00 minimum

Never let your dog off the leash on snow or ice, especially during a snowstorm, dogs can lose their scent and easily become lost. More dogs are lost during the winter than

during any other season, so make sure yours always wears ID tags. Thoroughly wipe off your pets paws, legs and stomach when it comes in out of the sleet, snow or ice. Pets can ingest salt, antifreeze or other potentially dangerous chemicals while licking their paws, and their paw pads may also bleed from snow or encrusted ice. Never leave your dog or cat alone in a car during cold weather. Keep pets indoors as much as possible, especially if they are sensitive to the cold weather due to age, illness or breed type. Recognize the signs of trouble. If your pet is whining, shivering, anxious or slows down, your pet is at risk of hypothermia. If systems last, call your vet.

Happy New Year!

Someone once told me that what you are doing at midnight on New Year’s Eve is what you will be doing all year long. I think the gist of it was that if you were joyous, you would have a joyous New Year…either way, I try my best to stay awake and greet the New Year, even though I am NOT a night person, just so that I can be joyous all year long.

As I start my third year here with the New Beginnings Self-Help Housing Program, I can’t help but feel joyous! In the last 2 years, 25 new families have built or bought their own home with no money down. In addition, many of these families worked hard to overcome credit issues that had stood in their way. It’s pretty incredible!

This New Year, we are preparing more families to begin the process of building their own home in our new community, The Grove. Off of Miller Avenue, this tree-lined community will become a place where these families will watch their children learn how to ride bikes, throw footballs, hop on school busses, and eventually, graduate from high school. It’s a place where memories will be made.

We invite you become one of these families! Find out how 2017 can be the year for your New Beginning-call me at 484-2990. Your New Beginning is just a phone call away!

Here is to a joyous 2017!

CHA Resident Council Care Closet Helps with Cleaning & Personal

Hygiene Needs The Care Closet program is open to Public Housing, Twin Oaks and Willowwood residents who are in need of cleaning and personal hy-giene items.

The Care Closet is held on the third Tuesday of each month from 10AM to NOON at the Twin Oaks building on Mitchell Blvd., off of Wayne Ave.

Those needing assis-tance must register for the program once, and are issued a card to pick-up supplies. Those who are not elderly or disabled are requested to provide volunteer me to their neighbors, church, or a local non-profit agency.

Residents should not use foil in the trays under the burners on your stove. These can get too much grease and then catch fire causing damage to your unit.

It is important to clean them at least once a week de-pending on how much cooking you do. If your grease trays under your burners get bad, call in a work order and they will be replaced at no charge to you.

If Undeliverable, Do Not Return.
