HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION Tractor speed, direction and braking are con

trolled by the speed control lever located on the center panel.

• To go forward, push the control lever forward. • To go backward, pull the control lever back. • To stop, put control lever in neutral position. • You may also stop the tractor at any time by

depressing the brake pedal on the left side. Tractor speed is affected instantly by movement of

the control lever. For safest operation, the control lever should not be moved too rapidly especially on grades.

Most power-driven attachments, such as rotary mowers, are designed to operate at full engine speed. The Hydrostatic transmission permits you 10 adjust tractor ground speed to suit operating conditions, while continuing to drive power-driven attachments at full engine speed for maximum efficiency.

For heavy pulling, moving the control lever toward neutral reduces tractor ground speed and increases pulling power much the some as shifting to a lower gear with a manual transmission, except that engine speed is not affected.

Towing Instructions: This tractor should never be towed or pushed

without first opening the towing valve. The towing valve is located under the seat on the top surface of the pump. To push or tow, follow directions on towing decal. (See Fig. III). Caution: Do not tow for long distances or over a speed of seven (7) miles per hour.

Remove key from the ignition switch.

HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION Tractor speed, direction and braking are can·

trolled by Ihe speed control lever located on the center panel.

• To go forward, push the control lever forward. • To go backward, pull the control lever bock. • To stop, put control lever in neutral position. • You may also stop the tractor at any time by

depressing the brake pedal on the left side. Tractor speed is affected instantly by movement of

the conlrol lever. For safest operation, the control lever should not be moved too rapidly especially on grades.

Most power-driven attachments, such as rotary mowers, are designed to operate at full engine speed. The Hydrostatic transmission permits you to adjust tractor ground speed to suit operating conditions, while continuing to drive power·driven attachments at full engine speed for maximum efficiency.

ELECTROMAGNETIC P.T.O. CLUTCH The electromagnetic clutch is used to drive the

power-driven attachments. This is a sealed unit and does not need lubricating. To engage the clutch, operate the clutch switch. (See Fig. I). Prolonged ex· posure to water and freezing temperature could couse the clutch to become frozen. Do not attempt to use the clutch if this condition exists.

Note: Always disengage the clutch before stopping the engine. Although the clutch automatically disengages when the ignition switch is turned off, the engine cannot be restarted until the clutch switch is in the disengaged position.

HYDRAULIC LIFT To lift an attachment, move the lift lever forward.

To lower, move lever to Ihe rear. The neutral position will hold on attachment at any position from full up to full down. A float position is also provided. Move the lift lever fully to the rear post detent resistance. This hydraulic "float" permits on atlachment to follow ground contours independent of the tractor's motion. The lever will remain in float position until changed manually. All attachments should be lowered after use.

BRAKES The broke pedal on the left side of the Iractor

provides dynamic braking 10 both rear wheels through the hydrostatic transmission.

PARKING BRAKE

The parking broke lever is located on the right side of the center control panel. (See fig I.) To set the parking broke pull on the handle. Broke should always be set when dismounting from traclor, especially on a grode, otherwise the tractor may creep. When brake is set, the drive belt is automatically released. Caution: Do not set parking broke while tractor is in motion as this may result in damage to the transmission. Always depress broke pedal before releasi ng parking broke.

LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE BATTERY

With proper core this battery should give the long service life built into it.

A battery which does not function properly is not necessarily worn out or defective. It may only need a good recharge. Therefore, if battery trouble is suspected, a full recharge and test by a competent battery man is recommended.

Care In Service A hydrometer test of the battery solution should

be mode monthly. If the specific gravily tests 1.225 or less, the battery should be removed and thoroughly recharged. At the same time the solution level should be examined and distilled water added when necessary to retain the level over the plates. When necessary to odd distilled water, do it just prior 10 recharging so that the added water mixes with the solution.

When recharging is necessary and user does not have his own charging equipment, he should request service station to slow charge the battery at a rate of 2 to 3 amperes. Fast charging is not recommended.

Any collection of grease or any other substance should be removed from the top of the battery and the top kept dry and clean 01 all times. The battery should be kept snug in its cradle and not permitted to get loose. If removed for charging, it should be fastened snugly enough to prevent any movement when in use. Vent cops should be kept tight and the small vent holes in top or side of cap be kept open at all times to permit escape of gas formed in the battery.

Core should be exercised not to overfill the battery at any lime and to always retain solution above the plates.

Winter Care If battery will not be used during the winter

months it should be removed and stored in a cool. dry place. Any collection of grease or other substance should be removed from the top of the battery.

The battery must be recharged monthly or whenever the hydrometer reads less than 1.22S.

Before reinstalling the battery in the spring, it should always be given a thorough recharge.

BELTS Drive belt tension is automatically maintained by

a spring-loaded idler pulley on the parking brake linkage. When the parking broke is released, the belt is properly engaged with the engine and trans· mission pulleys.

Belt guides are mode as part of Ihe belt guard. They are pre-set to proper clearance at the factory and require no further adjustment. Drive Belt Replacement:

Air Cleaner: Every 25 hours, service by tapping element lightly

against flat surface to remove loose dirt. Do not clean in any liquid or with compressed air . Replace element after 100 hours . This can be extended up to 200 hours if good, clean operating conditions prevail.

Note: The engine manufacturer's maintenance schedule and procedures are giuen in the engine manual which came with your tractor. It is advisable to study these recommendations and fo llow them to assure long engine life and trouble-free operation.

FUEL SYSTEM

Use clean, fresh, REGU LAR GRADE gasoline. Do not mix oil with fuel. Take the time to clean the area surrounding the fuel tank filler neck to prevent entrance of dirt and clippings into the tank.

Caution : Never fil l fuel tank with engine running. Use care not to spill fuel on engine or heat shield, especially when hot.

Fue l Filter: The in-line fuel filter (Fig. II) should be cleaned

after the first 25 hours operation and at 25 hour intervals thereafter. To clean the filter, remove the center screw, separate the two halves, rinse in clean solvent, and reassemble .

HEAD AND TAIL LIGHTS

The head and tail light circuit is protected by the AGe 20 amp. accessory fuse in the line from the ignition switch. It is replaced by separating the capsule to remove the spent fuse and insert the new o ne. (See Fig . II).

The head and tail lamp lenses are removable to provide access ta the bulbs . The head lamp lens is secured by four screws . The tail lamp lenses snap in place. A lifting slot is provided at the bottom of the lens to facilitate removal.

HYDRAULIC LIFT

The float detent resistance is adjustable. This is done by turning the socket head ball spring screw (Fig. VI) clockwise to increase, or counter-clockwise to decrease the detent resistance . The detent is correctly adjusted when the resistance is just great e nough to hold the valve in float position.

The front tires ore size 18 x 6.50 . 8. They should be infloted to 12 p.s.i. oir pressure.

Stondord reor tires ore Turf Sover, high flotot ion type, size 27 x 9.50 . 15. Inflation pressure is 10 to 12 p.s.i.

The optional Cleat type tires are size 27 x 8.50 . 15. Inflation pressure is 10 to 12 p.s.i.

Rear tires may be filled with ballast for additional weight.

TRANSMISSION

Oi l Filte r:

Replace the oil filter after the first 10 hours operation. Thereafter, replace it after every 100 hours operation or once per year whichever occurs first.

O il :

Check oil level before every use. Replenish as necessary to maintain proper level as indicated on dipstick attached to filler pipe vent plug . USE ON LY TYPE "A" AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLU ID.

Drain and refill transmission once each year or after every 100 hours operation whichever occurs first. The transmission is drained by removing the plug at the bottom of the transaxle. Four quarts of Type "A" Automatic Transmission Fluid a re required.

Use care to prevent dirt, clippings or other foreign material from entering the transmission when cha nging oil or replacing the oil filter.

Ne utral Ad justm ent:

If tractor should creep while in neutral position, this can be corrected. To check for creep, place tra ctor on level surface with engine run ning, and depre ss broke pedal. Creep on slopes is normal and can not be entirely eliminated.

To make neutral adjustment (See Fig VII):

1. Block rear wheels off grou nd.

2 . Remove instruction plate, (located in front of the seat) by removing the screws which hold it.

3. loosen set screw in arm with allen wrench (See fig . VII).

4. Depress brake ped al.

S. With tractor engine running and parking broke disengaged, inse rt short screwdriver through hole in nylon cam and rota te the ecce ntric com pin until rear wheels stop. Now retighten set screw in arm and replace plate.

6 . Note: The lobe on the eccentric pin must be upward for proper operation.

FIGURE VII

Control lever Friction Adjustme nt:

The control lever is friction loaded so it will hold at any desi red speed . The tension has bee n adjusted at the factory and should need little or no attention. If the lever does not stay where it is set during operotion, the friction may be increased by releasing the locknut and tightening the collar·friction adjust. ment. (See Fig. VIII). The proper amount of friction is obtained when approximately eight pounds of force at the ha ndle grip moves the control lever. Be sure to tighten the locknut after proper tension has been reached. The friction collar is self lubricating and does not require lubrication.
