Paris 1899. Corporal Jean Albertini, an orphan of humble origins, is chosen to infiltrate a band of anarchists. For him, it’s a chance to move up the ranks. On the other, he feels himself developing genuine feelings for the anarchists.

BRIEF ENCOUNTERDir David Lean, UK, 1945, 86 mins, B&W Cast: Celia Johnson, Trevor Howard, Stanley Holloway

70th anniversary reissue. The quintessential British romance, Brief Encounter takes its place as one of the key titles in the BFI’s LOVE season (October – December) and will screen alongside charming archival short, A Kiss in the Tunnel (1899) as part of this release.

A fleeting affair that turned into a timeless romance, Brief Encounter is a landmark of British cinema and one of the screen’s greatest love stories. Sensitive direction, perfect performances and an iconic score transform its simple story of two happily married strangers thrown together by chance and torn apart by obligation into a heartbreaking exploration of the power of love.

BURNTComedy | Drama Dir. John Wells, US, 2015, Cast: Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller, Uma Thurman, Emma Thompson, Daniel Brühl

Chef Adam Jones (Bradley Cooper) had it all – and lost it. A two-star Michelin rockstar with the bad habits to match, the former enfant terrible of the Paris restaurant scene did everything different every time out, and only ever cared about the thrill of creating explosions of taste. To land his own kitchen and that third elusive Michelin star though, he’ll need the best of the best on his side, including the beautiful Helene (Sienna Miller). BURNT is a remarkably funny and emotional story about the love of food, the love between two people, and the power of second chances.
