What Price Salvation? Here's how you could lose your salvation if you neglect

to keep the Feast of Tabernacles

by L. E. Torrance

T H IS past Feast of Tabernacles Godreached down deep-through Hisministers-into our hearts and said

to each of us: "I want you to share Mylife, My happiness, My joh of beingGod. I have a great reward waiting foreach of you. Come! Receive of My HolySpirit so you can have My character andI can trust you with eternal life, withreal responsibility, with My very owncreative power."

Yet, with this goal, some of yOll areplanning to disobey God this fall!

Remember-Gad's Festivals are notman-made. They are Holy Convocations-DIVINELY COMMANDED ASSEMBLIES

(Lev. 23:7, 21,35). The Almighty Creator ORDERS His people to attend!

Are You About to Sell YourBirthright?

Notice what happened to Esau whenhe set his eyes on physical pleasures instead of the goal ahead. God allowedEsau to get into a real test. He came infrom the field and was hungry (Gen.25:29). He was too hungry to wait.Noticing that Jacob had a dish of lentils (verse 34), Esau traded his birthright for this pot of porridge-so hecould quickly satisfy the desires of themoment. Esau did not appreciate thegreat value of his birthright!

Would you sell your birthright todayfor a dish of soup?

You say, "Of course not!"Don't be too sure! Some of you have

already done just that!Brethren, some few of you who, as

far as we know, are not planning tocome back to God's Feast, were overheard to make remarks similar to this,''1'm not coming back any more, 'they'gave me a cold cup of coffee."

Whether you realize it or not, whatyou were saying is, "I'm like Esau, I'llsell my birthright-the right to beamong the first-born in the Kingdom ofGod-for a hot cup of coffee." You mayas well have said, "If I have to drink acold cup of coffee, eternal life is notworth it."

Brethren, this is SERIOUS! Youreternal life is at stake with such attitudes. Your life is either given to God-or you are on mighty dangerousground!

You need to remember, though, thatGod promises, "But if the wicked willturn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all My statutes, and dothat which is lawful and right, he shallsurely live, he shall not die (Ezek.18: 21 ). Why die when you can repentand live?

The Right AttitudeGod's ministers were elated to hear

that most of you brethren were thrilledat the Feast of Tabernacles last autumn. Many, many of you mentioned that theGospel of Chr isr was pictured moreforcefully, more powerfully - and yetmore compassionately than ever before. You mentioned how these sermons leftyou fiercely determined to put forth anall-out effort to follow step-by-step theWAY that leads to eternal life.

Many of you mentioned that the sermons jerked you right out of your lethargy-right out of the WAY of destruction down which you were headed, Yes,you mentioned how thankful you were.

You realized that it was as if the compassionate Almighty Creator was tellingeach and everyone of us, "I want youin My Kingdom. There is a work foryou to do."

Then it was as if God went on tosay, "But listen carefully, here are somesins you have to overcome before I cantrust you with eternal life." And evenmore important, God revealed throughHis ministers, "Here is how you canovercome these sins that are keepingyou from receiving My character, Mypower, My Holy Spirit."

The Wrong AttitudeInstead of being overwhelmed with

gratitude, some others chose to becomeoffended.

Were you the one who said, "I camehere to hear Mr. Armstrong preachprophecy. All I have heard since I'vebeen here is a bunch of young fellowsharping on overcoming." Don't youknow that God has said, "To him thatovercometh will I grant to sit with Meon My throne" (Rev. 3:21).

He alsoreported a rainfall deficit for the first6 months of this year over 7 Y2 inches. While we are not seriously harmed thusfar, we will soon suffer some bad effects. Our corn crop looks like an almost complete failure. Pastures are all dried up.Farmers have to either feed green chopdaily or start on the already limited haysupply. The hay matured very rapidlythis spring, limiting growth and causingloss in nutritive value. Oats are veryshort awl wheat light, both maturingtoo rapidly. Flies are about as bad onthe cattle now as they usually get inlate August. Insects are attacking thewheat. Also, price of milk was lowestlast month that it has been in about ayear. Prophecy marches on."

Church, Childrenand CONFUSION!

Your Horne Work Cut OutFor You

Each parent in God's Church can improve in training his children. Of thisthere is no doubt. Some of you are tobe commended in the progress you aremaking. On the other hand, SOME OFYOU ARE DOING A MISERABLEJOB OF REARING YOUR CHILDREN.

Get this straight.' You will NEVERteach your children how to behave inChurch on the Sabbath if you wait until the Sabbath to train them. God tellsus to work during the six work daysof the week. TRAINING CHILDRENis part of that work. IF you train yourchildren DURING THE WEEK youwill not need to be working at it on theSabbath. IF you accomplish all youshould during the week, your childrenwill be in subjection on the Sabbath. They will not need continual correctionand attention. They will be able to sitat REST Oll the SABBATH. They willallow you to REST on the SABBATH.You certainly can take care of emergen-

concern for the other members of thecongregation. If you are one who cannot master your children, you may justas well stand up and loudly shout thatyou do not know how to teach themthat you DO NOT KNOW HOW TOBE A PARENT!

If your children unrestrictedly clamorin Church--or anywhere else, for thatmatter-they are, IN FACT, making itknown to all within earshot that YOUARE A POOR, INCOMPETENT PARENT! Yau are known by your fruit.'GOD SAYS SO! Your children areyour fruit-the fruit of your instruction-the fruit of your way of life. Thatfruit should be good!

Disdain for God and Church?

Some parents in God's Church allowtheir children to bellow, squall andscream in the PRESENCE of God. Suchabject negligence and chaos is DETESTABLE in God's sight and aSTENCH in His nostrils! It shows rankdisregard for and insolence toward theCreator. It demonstrates impudent un-

Some have not trained their children properly. Is the presenceof your children an affront to God Himself in Sabbath services? Do you fathom what's expected of every Christian parent?

by Clint C. Zimmerman

16: 11 says we are to rejoice BEFOREHim. When we keep the Sabbaths weare BEFORE God. He is there! We arethere before Him in order that we canlearn to FEAR Him.

GOD-the Creator of this Churchis not an ethereal void. He is IN theChurch; He is IN its meetings; He isTRULY PRESENT at His convocations. He has not gone 'way off to leave us toour own devices, our own way of living, our own way of rearing our families and controlling our children.

Immediately after the dazzlinglydreadful experience of God's presenceat Sinai, the Israelites were commandedto diligently teach the laws of life totheir children (Deut. 6: 7) . Amongother things those laws revealed exactlyHOW they and their children were tokeep the Sabbath HOLY. Those samelaws and instructions-now greatly magnified by all of the Scripture which hassince been written-apply to us today.

Weare to keep the Sabbath HOLY.We are to instruct our children in

how to keep the Sabbath HOLY.In I Timothy 3: 15 the Apostle Paul

told Timothy that the instruction hehad given earlier in the chapter was so"that thou rnayest know HOW thououghtest to BEHAVE THYSELF INTHE HOUSE OF GOD, which is theCHURCH OF THE LIVING GOD... "! In verse 4 he had just said, "chitdren (are to be) in subjection with allgravity;" while in verse 12 he reiterates, "ruling their children ... WELL".'

In I Timothy 4: 11 he told Timothy, and thus all of God's ministers, "Thesethings COMMAND and TEACH!"This article therefore comes with authority.

God IS Present Each Sabbath

Do you comprehend the FACT thatyou and your family are in the literalPRESENCE of that same God whenyou attend His convocations?

We pray for God's presence in ourassemblies. Those prayers, made in thefaith of Jesus Christ, are heard and answered! Our prayers are NOT somemeaningless ritual just to get us off toa "good religious start." Our prayers areNOT just a sanctimonious way to openthe WORSHIP services. Our "amens"should never hold the meaning of, "Yes,yes, but let's get on with keeping theSabbath so I can get home early and livemy life."

Some apparently do not appreciatethe FAITH in which we pray. They donot really BELIEVE God hears ourprayers. They do not COMPREHENDthe full importance of the Sabbath. Theydo not absolutely KNOW God respondsto our petition.

We must be AWARE that God'spresence makes the Sabbath Holy-Heis PRESENT in the Sabbath! The Sabbaths are HIS holy convocations. Heis PRESENT in His convocations!REALLY! Not in some indefinable,wishy-washy, meaningless, powerless,"spiritualized" way. He is actttally thereIN SPIRIT 1

Leviticus 23 positively states thatALL of the Sabbaths-weekly and annual-are "Feasts of the ETERNAL."That doesn't mean He thought them up,told Israel to observe them, and thenretired disinterestedly to His throne inheaven. Deuteronomy 14:23 tells us toeat BEFORE Him and Deuteronomy

GOD THUNDERED out of thesurging smoke and lashing fire ofSinai, "Remember the Sabbath

day to keep it HOLY!"All Israel trembled (Ex. 19: 16) .They realized - they KNEW - they

were in the very, actual PRESENCE ofGod! The ONE GOD who had powerover their lives. The ONE GOD whocould literally consume them (Deut,5:25).

4

cies on the Sabbath-Gad's law permitsit-but you should need to be involvedonly in emergency corrections with yourchildren on the Sabbath,

Proper prearation for the Sabbathmeans having your children in completereadiness. Your responsibility does NOTend with providing clean and pressedclothes, prepared meals, and a littleBible instruction. Their minds, attitudes, emotions and WHOLE BEHAVIOUR PATTERN must be made ready. To forget or forsake this complete preparation of your child is abysmal folly.

God commands our presence in Hisconvocations! We cannot forsake meeting with the local Church or on theannual Sabbaths. Some, recognizing thedistraction of their ill-mannered children, attempt to solve the problem ofimproper preparation by being at themeeting without being a real part of it.Their attention is split between the sermon and restive children.

Men Shirk Job!Too many HUSBANDS SHIRK their

duty! A man's God-given ability to master and lead should be exploited. Hiswife should expect his willing assistancein disciplining their children--withouthal'ing to ask for it; He is the one whois in charge. He should be the example, give the instruction, and, by settingfamily policy, lead the way all throughthe week AND on the Sabbath!

Too often, when trouble is brewing, the husband only grits his teeth, closeshis cars, stares straight ahead, seethesuncomfortably and finally, in exasperation, glares at wife and child as he indistinctly mumbles, "Do something!"Then the mother, martyr of womanhood, dismally, grimly or dispiritedlybegins to trudge, distractingly, in andout of the meeting place as she attempts to appease and assuage theslightest whim or outburst of the fretful child.

Such women spend the Sabbath fighting their children! Too many finallyjust give uP! Too weak in character togain dominance over a few pounds ofspiteful flesh they sink down into inactivity. And so it is not unusual to findthe ladies' lounge area of a Churchcluttered with bedraggled, frustratedmothers and their squirming, restless, misbehaving offspring. How shameful!

You who do this only FOOL YOURSELVES if you think you are gettingall you should from the services. Youcannot keep the Sabbath HOLY whileyou walk up and down the aisle. Thewomen in God's Church must stop suchmeaningless, useless foolishness!

The GOOD NEWS

This trend can be stopped. Every husband of such a wife is directly responsible-he may even be forcing his wifeto behave in such an irrational way.HOW? By not assuming his full responsibility during the week AND onthe Sabbath. Every husband and wifemust work together as a team. Eachshould provide his or her full contribution toward the solution of thisproblem.

Plan of Action

Mr. Garner Ted Armstrong spentyears gaining the information whichyou should have easily available in yourfile of back issues of The PLAINTR UTH. He spent weeks putting hardwon knowledge into plain, simple, understandable words so we could all comprehend it. Certainly there is no reasonfor me to attempt to repeat it in thisshort article, but you NEED TOKNOW WHAT HE WROTE!

Here is what you should do! Get ouryour file of PLAIN TRUTHS! Blowthe dust from it! The CHILD TRAINING SERIES began with the November1960 issue. The first few articles arenot so greatly concerned with the problem at hand, but they furnish necessarybackground. Perhaps you will only needto skim through them IF you thoroughly studied and digested them previously. But when you come to theAugust 1961 issue there is more to do.

GO TO YOUR CLOSET (with yourwife or husband if she or he is converted or interested) AND BESEECHGOD FOR UNDERSTANDING. ASKHIM FOR ASSISTANCE! THENSTUDY - not just read - the seriesfrom August 1)161 through March 1962.STUDY AS IF YOUR LIFE ANDYOUR CHILD'S depended upon itFOR, IN FACT, IT DOES!

As you pore over this absorbing seriesyou will come to KNOW exactly "HowYour CHILD Learns!" You will UNDERSTAND "The TRUTH about Corporal Punishment!" Apply the truth youfind and you will soon learn how "YouCAN Punish YOUR Children - - INLOVE!" Study this entire series carefully so you will be sure to FIND OUT"How to GET RESULTS" and learn"How to Teach Your Children RightHabits! "-to quote the titles of someof the articles in the series.

You ARE NOT TO SKIM THESE ARTI

CLES! You ARE TO THOROUGHLY DI

GEST THEM! YOU ARE TO INSTITUTE

THEM INTO YOUR WAY OF LIFE! YOUARE TO APPLY THEM!!! You ARE

TO BEGIN TO USE THIS INFORMATION

IN REARING YOUR CHILD TODAY!

August, 1962

You ARE GOING TO PROVE YOUR CON

VERSION - YOUR WILLINGNESS TO

CHANGE FROM THE WAY THAT HAS

SEEMED RIGHT - BY THE WAY YOURCHILDREN ACT IN THE NEXT FEW

WEEKS AND THE REMAINDER OF THEIR

LIVES.

Begin NOW!

You will need to immediately startusing Mr. Armstrong's instructions inyour everyday life. You will need to bePERSISTENT and CONSTANT. Youmust not slack off from this responsibility! We prove ourselves before Godboth by our willingness to submit to theauthority which He places over us, andour willingness to accept and administerthe authority which He gives us. Useyour authority over your children to become perfect as the Eternal has commanded. Exercise your authority in love!Begin now, TODAY-before the nextSabbath or Festival-to make your children sit or lie still for short periods oftime. Gradually lengthen the period. Insist that you be obeyed. (Any wellchild of school age should sit up duringservices.) Whenever punishment is necessary make sure it is swift and immediate.

Perhaps a recent experience with mydaughter will be of some help. A Churchmember who lives about 20 miles fromme called and asked me to come prayfor his ill son. I decided it would be nicefor my family to accompany me on thetrip for we could all be together duringthat time. My younger daughter said shepreferred to stay home and visit theneighbors (who had a TV running). Isaid, "No, you're going along." Sheswung about on her heel, tossed herhead, curled her lip and said, "Oohhh."She was going to go, she knew it, Iknew it. But her attitude was entirelywrong-she was being REBELLIOUS!I got our paddle-it'S made of ash. Shecried at the first swat for two reasons:( 1) it hurt and (2) she wanted it tostop. The punishment did not stop! Shefinally realized she was crying in pretense. Her crying then stopped eventhough the repeated swats were hurtingmore. She became convinced I was inauthority-and she finally truthfullyand fervently said, "Daddy, I won't doit any more. She meant it. She had repented. I stopped. I then warned herthat the next such infraction would bemet with even more severe punishment.I meant it. We understand each other. She isn't wondering IF I meant it because she knows from experience I keepmy word.

Gigantic WORLD HOAXAfoot!

A great religious combine is plotting at this moment. Innocentmillions will be unsuspectingly sucked into a whirlpool of

religious superstition-or be martyred.by Charles V. Dorothy

W O R L D religious and politicalheads are being duped by a sinister force masquerading under

the name of religion! With the appealing slogans "Peace" and "Unity," churchleaders around the globe are talking ofONE CHURCH. Words are flying, articles roll off presses, precedent-breakingconclaves are being held - startlingMERGERS have already taken place!

Would it actually advance the causeof Christianity and bring world peaceif all churches united under one head?

Is this "Ecumenical" (world-wide)church movement really what it pretends to be?

\Would you like to know in advancewhether the Vatican will succeed ingathering the "scattered brethren"-theother Catholic Orthodox churches andthe Protestants-back into her fold?

Answer in AdvanceDoes it sound incredible to you that

the answer was written almost 3,000years ago-SOO years before Christ? Isit too hard to believe that Christ Himself had much tv ~ay abour "Ecumenism" and a colossal end-rime religioushoax?

The answers were written under inspiration by Isaiah the prophet long before New Testament times, and theApostle John quotes Jesus Christ's ownanalysis of this new global ideology inthe book of Revelation, believe it ornot!

Before we analyze what prophecy hasto say about church unity, here is a rePOrt on recent events which have beenfulfilling the predictions of the Bibleright before our eyes!

India Hosts Biggest ProtestantMeeting Ever

Since the Council of Trent in thel oth century, there has been no gathering of Christians such as New Delhi,India, witnessed last fall. The WorldCouncil of Churches - boasting over3,000,000 members from 197 denominations throughout 90 countries - feelsitself responsible for "one of the veryearly events in the second great Reformation of Christendom." The main

topic of this Council was how to solvedifferences and bring about unity.Among these theologians it is commonknowledge that over 430 differing, bickering, backbiting, competing denominations, all claiming to be of Christ, cannot possibly be reconciled with Christ'sfinal prayer "... that they may be ONE,even as we are one" On. 17 :22).

Fruit was borne. For the first timesince the Protestant split from theRoman Catholic Church in the 1500's,a Protestant body in harmony withOrthodox Catholics made concrete progress toward unity! With much lightfooted sidestepping and shadow-boxing,the General Secretary of the WorldCouncil of Churches, Willem A. vs.ser't Hoofr, managed to appease thehigh-ups of Russian Orthodoxism andwin them as members!

This Council is growing in prestigeand popularity - has already helpedsome Protestant churches to unite - andwill be the springboard for new andlarge mergers as a result of the 1961meetings. The National Council ofChurches here in America is sewingstronger stitches. Beside the severaldozen unifications among Protestants ofthe last 10 years (especially the Methodist realignment), there is the pend.ing large-scale blending of Methodists,Episcopalians, Presbyterians and UnitedChurch of Christ.

Protestants Not AloneThe "let's -get -together" ecumenism

spirit is stirring around the world forthe first time in millenniums. UnaSaneta, a European Protestant-Catholictogetherness movement working toamalgamate all churches into a superChristian cartel celebrates its 23rd yearin 1962. "Athenagoras I, Patriarch ofConstantinople and spiritual leader ofall Eastern Orthodox churches, made hisfirst appeal for a reunion of Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Protestantchurches" (New York Times, April IS,1960) .

This was followed in September,1961, by the numerous Orthodox (nonRoman) Catholic churches meeting inRhodes-after centuries of jealousy and

attack among themselves-to plan anew Orthodox unification! This wouldinclude such groups as the Greek, Russian, Serbian, Rumanian, Syrian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, to name a few. By a freakaccident, a proposed meeting on reunion between Pope John XXIII andEastern Orthodox officials was scoopedby the press and so was called off.

This is nor all. Also for the first time, the Vatican sent official observers to theWorld Council in New Delhi. TheSecretariat for the Unity of Christians, headed by Curia-Cardinal Bea of theVatican, is studying the ecumenicalproblem. The Pope has had traditionbreaking visits, just in the last year, from the presiding Bishop of the U. S.Protestant Episcopal Church, and theArchbishop of Canterbury!

Biggest News YetThe world was jarred early in 1959

when Pope John announced "VaticanII," the first ecumenical (world-wide)council in 90 years! A flurry of comment from religious and political leaders flooded the press and news media.Perhaps you can better grasp the importance of such an announcement ifyou know that only 20 such meetingshave been held since the birth of Christ! The last one, called "Vatican I," announced the Pope as infallible in matters of faith and doctrine. Even such animportant doctrine as Mary ascendingto heaven bodily was pronounced byPope Pius XII without benefit of acouncil.

What to Expect This FallThe world waits with wonder and

awe for the results of the much-hailed,long-delayed, world-wide council. Atlast Rome is responding to widespreadpressure for unification. You, the reader, do not have to wait for the published results of the meetings. Throughthe prophecies of your own Bible, andthe tireless efforts of our global newsgathering agency, you can understandIN ADVANCE!

A four-step plan-at first glance fantastic-has already been outlined byVatican dignitaries and set in motion!

6

It will succeed!Step 1: Bring the Vatican to the

height of its strength and unity. "Themain aim of the ecumenical council willbe that of strengthening and invigorating the Roman Catholic Church"(Pope John XXIII, AP release in Glendale News Chronicle, Aug. 10, 1959).Much has been accomplished since thisannouncement. Loose ends will be tiedup this fall.

Step 2: Regather the "scattered brethren" of Orthodox Catholicism. "PopeJohn XXIII's call for an ecumenicalcouncil is aimed primarily at achievinga reunion of the Roman Catholicand Eastern Orthodox churches whichparted ways in the 'Great Schism' of1472" (UPI, Evening Tribune, SanDiego, California, Jan. 27, 1959). Although complete reunion will probablynot be accomplished this year, thegroundwork will be laid; merger willfollow.

Step '3: Embrace the "daughter" Protestant churches which broke away during the Reformation! This third stepwill not be achieved this fall, but as aprelude to it, the Protestants have aprecedent-breaking invitation to watchthe council meetings this fall! Soundsincredible, you say? Listen to what PopeJohn himself said: "Then, when theCatholic Church is in its full splendor,we will say to Orthodox and Protestants, 'You can see, brothers, this is theChurch of Christ. Come! Come! This isthe way open to a meeting, TO A RETURN! Come to take, or take back, your place which, for many of you, isthat of your ancient fathers'" (L'Osseruatore Romano, Vatican newspaper,Aug. 10, 1959).

Step 4: "Missionary Conquest of theworld for Christ"-this statement fromthe Pope clearly reveals the imperialistic design of the Vatican: CONQUERTHE WORLD! The Vatican is alreadyas much a nation or state as is GreatBritain. It has "a full civil governmentwith a flag, a police force, courts andpostage stamps. It even issues currencyin the form of gold and silver coinsbearing an effigy of the Pope, and it hassome 500-odd national citizens who useVatican passports when they wish totravel. It has armed guards, and, before1870, it had a full-blown military establishment" (American Freedom andCatholic Power, by Paul Blanshard, p.41) .

But some will object and say, "TheCatholic Church is only interested inthe SPIRITUAL conquest of nations, not military or political." The questionis, "Has the Roman Church historically

f01' cent1/.ries, CONTROLLED POLITICS whenever possible, WAGEDWAR when necessary (either directlyor indirectly by controlling nationalarmies), and DOES IT NOW PARTICIPATE IN POLITICS?"

History cries, YES IT HAS! IT ALWAYS HAS, DOES SO NOW, ANDAL WAYS WILL!!

Always, that is, until it is destroyed."It is an understatement to say that

t?e Roman Catholic Church is in politics. IT IS POLITICAL. 'Separation ofchurch and state' is described by FatherJohn Courtenay Murray, the leadingcurrent writer on this theme in theAmerican [Catholic} hierarchy, as 'Thatnegative, ill-defined, basically un-American formula, with all its overtones ofreligious prejudice'" (Blanshard, p 43).Pius IX, in Section 6 of his Syllabus,DENOUNCED the cherished belief that"the Church ought to be separated fromthe State, and the State from theChurch" as one of "THE PRINCIPALERRORS OF OUR TIME" (Blanshard,p. 43. Emphasis ours).

So you can expect this fall an appreciable advance toward the cause ofRoman-Orthodox unity, although it maytake longer for actual unity. No ecumenical council of the past has everbeen announced as a failure. In the eyesof the "Eternal City," Rome, they arealways overwhelming successes. You canexpect, moreover, generally favorablecomments from Protestants as to thepossibility of one giant super-Christianmonopoly in the not-too-distant future. You will begin to hear the CatholicChurch boast not 550 millions, but closeto 900 millions of adherents, with theaddition of the Orthodox ranks; in afew years-with Protestants addedwell over a BILLION!

Will Unity Come?

Emphatically, dogmatically, we statepositively that CHURCH UNITYWILL COME! How can we be sure?Simply that God has revealed it throughthe prophet Isaiah over 2,700 years ago!

Speaking of the Catholic Church(Daughter of Babylon) , Isaiah says,"And thou saidst, I shall be a lady forever: so that thou didsr not lay thesethings to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it. Thereforehear now this, thou that art given topleasures, that dwellest carelessly, thatsayest in thine heart, 'I AM, ANDNONE ELSE BESIDE ME; I shall notsit as a widow, NEITHER SHAll IKNOW THE LOSS OF CHILDREN' "!(Isa. 47:1, 7-8).

Did you grasp the tremendous signi-

August, 1962

ficance? This event is for the LATTEREND, nearing the climax of this agewhen Christ will set up His government(Rev. 11: 15 ). This "mistress" (or lady, defined in 11 Cor. 11: 2 and Rev. 19: 7as a church) will say, 'There is noneelse beside me" or, "I am the only'Christian' church in existence."

Now it should be clear that in orderto fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah for thelatter days, the Roman Catholic Churchmust REGAIN DAUGHTER churchesshe has mothered-either through political moves for unity, or through forcedconversion in the Tribulation. Once reunification is achieved, she becomes "theonly 'Christian' church." To be the onlychurch in existence ("none else besideme"), she must either bring competingchurches back to the fold, or ERASETHEM FROM THE EARTH!

TRIBULATION For Those WhoRefuse

True enough there will be some whowill refuse to have Vatican doctrinecrammed down their throats. They willbe able to escape the "Mark of theBeast" unly by death! "And he hadpower to give life to the image of thebeast [the Roman hierarchy}, that theimage of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would notworship the image of the beast shouldbe killed" (Rev. 13:15).

Then, and only then, she can say,"NEITHER SHAll I KNOW THELOSS OF CHILDREN"; "I will notagain lose my daughter churches!"

Note this striking admission by Catholic Cardinal Gilroy, Archbishop of Sydney, Australia: "Byzantium and itsDAUGHTER churches are still separated." Outright confession of howCatholics look at their "separated brethren"! God calls them harlot daughtersin Revelation 17, speaking of the "greatwhore that sitterh upon many waters":"Upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon the Great, THEMOTHER OF HARLOTS [with daughter churches} and abominations of theearth" (verses 1, 5).

What to Expect in the NearFuture

There are yet other reasons we knowthat church unity will be achieved. Asreported in The PLAIN TRUTHOctober, 1960, "Papacy Answers RedThreat," one main reason for unity isthe burgeoning European Common Market. This economic union of six nationsnow wants to unite politically-and hasto unite politically in order to fulfill

LAWS regulate marital happiness! Many of God's people are not living as

happily as God intended! Here's boui to overcome marital unhappiness!by Garner Ted Armstrong

" ""\Tou are at fault - and I am notJ..~oing to budge one inch until

YOU repent, and say you're sorry!""No - YOU started it all," is the quick

retort, "and YOU will. have to repentFIRST!"

Could this be yottr home?

What's Wrong Here?

Almighty God "invented" marriage. Therefore, God had the right and the

prerogative to "regulate" marriage! In thebeginning, God set down certain lawswhich, if they were obeyed, would resultin happy, scintillating, interesting, fulllives - the true abundance which all mankind IS seeking, but in vain.

As a member of God's Church, youhave come to understand that God hasplaced government in His Church' Anrl, since God is, by very NATURE, the originator of GOVERNMENT - God hasalso established a government in thehome!

It is because of a lack of understanding of how this gOI'ermnent works thatmany of God's people are not experiencing the happiness in marriage they reallydesire.

Many of you brethren have come tounderstand the organization in the home. You KNOW that the husband is to bethe one in charge, the wife is to be obedient to the husband, and the childrenunder their parents, and so on. Most ofyou AGREE with this as a "doctrine,"and you "see" it!

But do you know how it works? Yes- what's WRONG with an argumentsuch as the one described? WHO isreally in the wrong?

The Husband's Obligation

First, let's notice that God said, throughthe Apostle Paul "But I would have youknow, that the head of every man isChrist, and the head of the woman is theman, and the head of Christ is God." Hewent on to say "For the man is not ofthe woman, but the woman of the man.Neither was the man created for thewoman, but the woman for the man!"(I Cor. 11: 3, 8-9.) Later, in writing hisletter to the Church at Ephesus, theApostle Paul was inspired to say "Wives,

submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husbandis the HEAD of the wife, even as Christis the head of the church, and he is thesaviour of the body. Therefore as thechurch is subject unto Christ, so let thewives be to their own husbands in everything!" (Eph. 5: 22-24.)

Notice the words "even as." The onedistinguishing DIFFERENCE betweenthis Church and all other is its OBEDIENCE to Christ! And, notice, God commauds that the husband is to be the headof the wife, EVEN AS Christ is the headof the Church!

Most of you women have thought theseverses were all aimed at YOU!

But they are not! While they are commands with regard to the status of thewife in the marriage - they are aimeddirectly at the man!

God holds the man RESPONSIBLE!God is pointing these commands directlyto the man, who is to BE the head!

He is not the head merely because thewife "lets him" be the head - or becauseshe accepts this as a "doctrine" and thenb::lligerently says "All right, I'll 'go along'with it."

For instance, in a study appearing inone of the major weekly news magazinessome years ago, a very respected judge,Samuel S. Leibowitz of the Kings CountyCourt in Brooklyn, reported on a study hemade in Italy.

He found, in traveling all over Europeand in Italy, that the Italian home is onet har seemingly has more government, and, as a result, the Italian society has lessjuvenile delinquency than any othercountry he had entered.

He summed up his full experiences bysaying America's delinquency problemcould be solved in nine words. The ninewords were, "Put father back at the headof the home!"

TRUE - in a way!But the very fact that he worded it in

this way prot'es that some other power, some other source, some other personmust do the "putting"!

Even this, then, is a sad admission ofthe upside-down condition of mostAmerican homes today.

God wants the members of His Church

to know that the wife is not the one to"put" her husband at the head of thehome - but the husband is the one to puthimself there!

A Wife's Responsibilities

Paul also wrote "Wives, SUBMITyourselves unto your own husbands, as itis fit in the Lord" (Col. 3: 18).

But what if the husband is not "in theLord?" Is the wife STILL to submit to

him? We are told by the inspired ApostlePeter that we ought to "obey God ratherthan man!" That is, where the highergovernment and laws of God conflictwith the lower powers and govprnmentof man, we are to obey God first, andthen take whatever penalty man maywish to mete out.

However, let's assume a hypothcticalsituation: the husband is converted, though, like all of us, still has a lot ofcarnal traits and tendencies. The wife isalso converted, and both are members ofGod's Church. The husband, through forgetfulness, carelessness, or through sheercarnal selfishness, tries the wife's patiencealmost beyond endurance by some of hishabits or ways. The wife then decides thatthe husband is not acting "as it is fit inthe Lord!" Aud therefore, begins to automatically assume that she does not haveto respect, to obey, to SUBMIT herselfunto him!

Many wives-yes wives in God'sChurch - assume that the very secondtheir husbands evidence the slightest bitof carnality in their nature and theirhandling of the wives and homes, thatthis gives automatic and immediate permission for the WIFE to begin to beratethe husband, to argue with him, to snapout at him his faults, and to begin to"wear the pants!"

This is simply NOT TRUE!Notice it!The Apostle Paul also described a

home where one member is totally zenconocrtcd, and not even a member of theChurch!

"But to the rest speak I, not the Lord[that is, he was not quoting a personalstatement of Christ} if any brotherhave a wife that belieictb not, and shebe pleased to dwell with him, let him not

Page 8

put her away. And the woman which hasan husband that believes not [is not amember of God's Church] and if he bepleased to dwell with her, LET HERNOT LEAVE HIM! For the unbelievinghusband is sanctified by the wife, and theunbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband - else were your children unclean, but now are they holy" (l Cor. 7: 12-14).

Yes, "unfair" as it may sound to somewomen, and especially those who stillhave ;l great carnal tendency, God saysthat even if the husband is totally CARNAL - makes no "pretense" at beingreligious one way or the other, smokes, drinks, and curses, but if he is "pleasedto dwell with her" and if he is a husbandproviding for her and supporting her, andwants to keep on living with her as hiswife - she is COMMANDED on theauthority of the sacred Word of God, toHONOR him, to REVERENCE him, tobe humble and submissive to him, andNOT to leave him!

Rather, she is to be subject to himIN EVERYTHING-so long as hiscommands do not directly conflict withthe higher commands of God!

But Let's Answer These Questions!

Husbands, do all of you LITERALLY,diligently, faithfully, and honestly beforeGod, treat your wives with the same care, mercy, love, consideration and dutifulsolicitation for their welfare - just ASChrist does the Church?

Do you care for them, protect them, provide for them, LOVE them (and lovemeans an outgoing concern) in the wayyou know Christ does His Church?

The chances are - all of you men willhave to unanimously say you fall shortin this!

And you wives - do every ONE ofyou absolutely HONOR, respect, holdyour husbands in high esteem and even alittle bit of "AWE"? Do you look uponthem, and treat them with the deferenceand respect as you might Jesus ChristHimself in the flesh? Are you so concernedwith the inspiration, the help, the productivity, the growth of your husbandthat you are a constant help, a strong andstable companion, a daily inspiration tohim?

Do you stand in abject FEAR of berating him, scolding him, nagging athim, in the same way you would FEARto do such a thing to God Almighty Himself?

Pretty strong questions, aren't they? No, brethren, every single one of us certainly falls short in these things!

But we shouldn't!

A Formula for Love

KNOWING the government in thehome - agreeing with it - as I'm sure allof you do, is not enough! You must know

The GOOD NEWS

how you should put it into effect!First, let me give you the usual pro

cedure when a "family argument"develops.

Usually, one party or the other hasdone something that is selfish, thoughtless, inconsiderate, or even deliberatelywrong!

Immediately the other party, regardless of which sex, will begin to berate, nag at, scold and condemn the actions ofthe other! This condemnation and scolding only leads to further condemnationand scolding, with an attempt at selfjustification on the part of the other partner - and this leads to a chain reactionon the part of the opposite partnerand so it goes.

To illustrate: "John" has had a longday at the office. Thoughtlessly, he neglected to call his wife when he stayedlater with some friends, and the dinnergot cold. "Mary" had had her hands fullwith the children, scorched her fingerwith the iron, had the soup boil over andburn on the element of the stove, andhas seen her dinner get cold, on top of itall.

When John comes home, Mary beginsimmediately, in a shrill and venomousmanner, to berate him saying, "WELL!It's about TIME you got home! Youcould have at least called me! Here I am,burdened down with the children etc.,etc." John stands there - taking it all in- coming to a slow boil! He reasons inhis own mind "Here I am slaving at theoffice, bringing home the living, trying toprovide for my wife, and instead of acomforting pat on the shoulder, a mealthat she could have kept warm for me,and a comfortable atmosphere, I comehome to THIS!"

And so, instead of apologizing for hisbeing late, and then taking the situationin hand, he begins to snap back at Mary- and a full-fledged family argument isunder way!

What SHOULD they have done?John should have immediately taken

charge! He should have begun byAPOLOGIZING for his misdemeanorbelieve it or not! He should have said"Dear, I'm awfully sorry I forgot to callyou - it was sheer negligence on my part, and I'll try to remember not to do itagain - BUT" and then John should begin to show that REGARDLESS as toany wrong action, thoughtlessness, negligence, or even out and out deliberateSIN on his part-that "two wrongs nevermake a right!"

Even though he should be WILLINGto admit his mistake and his error, and tosincerely and lovingly apologize for ithe should take charge, and remind hiswife that she, too, is guilty of a sin!

If he would say, "Come here!" and goto their sofa, and sit down, and open up

August, 1962

his Bihle - reac1ing through some of thescriptures on husband and wife relationships; if he would then begin by explaining that he is often at fault-that he doesmake mistakes - and that he does notwant to attempt to JUSTIFY those mistakes.

But then he should also remind thewife of her responsibilities, and he shouldremind her that even if he were a drinking, smoking, swearing, poor excuse fora husband, who is not even making theslightest attempt to live a Christian life, she would have to obey him-regardless!He should show the wife patiently andlovingly, that he is NONE of thesethings, that he IS trying, but that he doesmake mistakes:'

Then, after going through a thoroughBible study in the subject - after admitting his sins, and having his wife acknowledge hers, he should kneel downand lead in family prayer!

He should begin by asking God's forgiveness for his own sins, for his thoughtlessness or his carelessness - and then heshould ask God's forgiveness for the errorof his wife! He should pray for theirmutual understanding, that God will helpthem horh to clraw together, closer, inreal love and harmony so they can serveHim! He should remind himself and hiswife in their prayer to God that theirheavenly Father is NOT the author ofconfusion, but of PEACE. He should prayfrom the heart, and really MEAN it!

Brethren, as a minister of Jesus Christ,1 FULLY GUARANTEE that if youhusbands and wives will DILIGENTLYfollow this practice, never failing to settlethese problems in God's prescribed way- you will begin to experience greaterhappiness and joy in your married livesthan you ever did before!

Time Is Short

When you are shaken to the very rootsof your "soul" or your very being by theDEATH of a loved one, you begin tothink soberly and seriously, don't you?

Usually, there's a great deal of remorseconnected with the sorrow - because yourealize you SHOULD have shown MORELOVE, spent more of your time with theperson, showed more interest in theperson, and you begin to think of theMANY things you SHOULD have doneto make the person happier while he wasalive!

But it's already too late!So far as your departed loved one is

concerned - your shed tears and remorseare totally worthless and useless at thistime!

Isn't it FAR BETTER to show LOVEright here and now?

In just a few short years, this whole, rotten world is going to be totally

Worship God-TOGETHER!The basis of any society is the home! Weare in God's society-theChurch of God! Perhaps many of us do not realize how vitally important our homelife is in determining whether we receive eternal

life!

T IME is growing short! God's workis surging ahead, leaping throughnewly opened doors, taking on new

vitality and strength! That means we are MUCH CLOSER to

the second coming of our Lord andSaviour Jesus Christ, than many of ushave realized!

Problems in the Church

But-God promises us it is "throughmuch tribulation (that we must) enterinto the kingdom of God! (Acts. 14:22) .

There is not an individual reading thisarticle who does not have major PROB

LEMS to overcome! Weare seeminglyencircled by worries, frustrations, financial problems, upset conditions in thehorne, a lack uf Bible study and prayerproblems, problems, PROBLEMS!

It is not wrong to have problems-butit is decidedly wrong to KEEP them! These problems, however large or small, are necessary as a part of our trainingto prepare us for positions in the kingdom of God! "Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if needbe, you are in heaviness through manifold temptations. That the trial of yourfaith, being much more precious thangold that perishes, though it be triedwith fire (type of severe tribulation)might be found unto praise and honorand glory at the appearing of JesusChrist" (I Pet. 1: 6-7 ) .

Why a Church?

As we have shown in past articles, theChurch is the instrument in God's handsfor the carrying out of His plan! TheChurch has the great commission whichis two-fold: to preach the gospel of thekingdom as a witness to all nations; andto feed the {lock!

But even more than this, the Churchteaches us how to meet and to solveproblems-how to be overcomers, as aUNIT. It teaches us how to meet thingsunitedly, in a family relationship!

Notice Jesus illustrated there is afamily relationship among the brethren!"Who is my mother? And who are mybrethren? And he stretched forth hishand toward his disciples, and said, 'Behold my mother and my brethren! Forwhosoever shall do the will of my Fatherwhich is in heaven, the same is my

by Garner Ted Armstrong

brother, and sister, and mother'" (Matt.12:48-50) .

The apostle Paul concentrated a greatdeal on family relationship among thehrerhren in the Church! "Rebuke not anelder, but entreat him as a father; andthe younger men as brethren; the elderwomen as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity" (I Tim. 5:1-2).

In this family-like unit, the body ofJesus Christ, God has set a certain chainof command!

Why Ministers?

God answers this question very emphatically?

"But now hath God set the memberseveryone of them in the body, as it hathpleased Him!" (I Cor. 12:18). In thischapter of First Corinthians, AlmightyGod explained through the apostle Paulhow the Church is very similar to thephysical body.

tvhy has God set these members soin the body? "That there should be noschism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one foranother" (vs. 25). To keep harmony, unity, peace-and for united growth!

God says we need this organizationthis chain of command "for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of theministry, for the edifying of the body ofChrist, TILL we all come in the unity ofthe faith, and of the knowledge of theSon of God, unto a perfect (mature)man, unto the measure of the stature ofthe fullness of Christ" (Eph. 4:12-13).

The Church is our training groundas a large, collective UNIT-knit together in ties of deep family love andfellowship-so that we may eventuallybe born into the biggest family that willever exist-the FAMILY of God!

Family Training

Hundreds of the brethren in God'sChurch, having gone along with the wayof the world, are now trying to reallyCHANGE their lives, and to fashion themaccording to God's divinely revealed pattern!

The FAMILY-and our relationship asindividual family members in our ownhomes-is the greatest personal trainingground God has given us for gainingentrance into His kingdom!

Just as God has set offices within His

Church, as a large family-group, SO Hehas set offices in our own private homes!

It is not the purpose of this article toexplain those offices-as that has beenthoroughly explained in the past. If anyof you brethren have not as yet read thearticle How to Have a Happy Marriage, then write in for it immediately!

How often do your children disobey? How often do YOU have differences withyour mate? How many times during thecourse of a week are there PROBLEMSwithin your own family?

Of course, there are many in God'strue Church who have not received thewonderful blessing of God of havingtheir entire family in God's Church. Forthese, many of whom have had to putaway a mate to whom they realized theywere not truly married, others who havehad to be separated because of religiousbigotry and antagonism on the part of acarnal minded mate, or others throughdifferent circumstances who cannot enjoy this family relationship, these principles still apply!

For those of us who do have families, here is a real CHALLENGE!

It has been clearly PROVED there oughtto be government in the home! It hasbeen clearly set forth as an authoritativecommand from the voice of AlmightyGod Himself, that the husband is to beouer the wife, and the parents togetherover the children, and that there shouldbe loving, kind, considerate GOVERNMENT in the home!

But many have not known how!Oftentimes, a newly converted husband, suddenly realizing he has let the reins ofthe leadership of the family slip from hisgrasp, has tried to take them back bymeans of harsh, unreasoning, blind, dictatorial rulership! Many have, in theirzeal of new-found truth, acted unwisely, and brought upon themselves undue religious persecution!

Sometimes parents, realizing theyshould begin to really work at trainingand teaching their children, have gone to

the opposite extreme, and begun to BEATtheir children-showing them anger, harshness, and "lording it over them"rather than teaching them FIRMLY, butpatiently, lovingly, and with great understanding and wisdom!

And so-because I know many hundreds of you sincerely WANT to grow in

Page 10

additional grace and knowledge, and tohave your families knit together in bondsof love, mutual respect and harmony,HERE is what you can do about it!

Family Worship

Recently, in a sermon given here before the local congregation at the Headquarters Church, I outlined a positivestep which I recommended the membersof the Headquarters Church begin to doimmediately. I have since heard frommany sources that certainly the broadmajority, if not all, have begun doingthis!

That is-to begin a morning familyworship hour-and to make it a dailyHABIT!

As a boy, I remember how my fatherwould sit down with the whole family, open the Bible, and begin to expoundand explain certain portions. Usually, thescriptures or the discussion would haveto do with certain problems of the week, individual circumstances of the past fewdays, or a challenge to be met on thatparticular day. We WQulJ then all kneel, and, beginning with my father, and thenon down to me, at the "tail end" becauseI was the youngest, we would all pray fora very few minutes aloud. This did not, Iknow, in any way substitute for the dailyprayer of my father and mother!

Rather, it was an ADDITIONAL time ofprayer when the whole family could gettogether in harmony, and with theproper kind of government, and drawcloser to one another and to God!

I want to exhort EVERY SINGLE ONEOF YOU to begin to have a morningfamily worship period! Or, some otherset time of day if that is better. If you aremarried, but do not have children--do itanyhow! If you are not married, do itby yourself! If you are separated ordivorced, do it anyhow!

If God has not provided the greatblessing of having your whole family inGod's Church-then have your OWNmorning worship hour, even in private!Weare not to impose God's trzab onothers unless they first seek it!

Here's How!

Parents should select certain scriptures-and begin a regular series-so thechildren will know what to expect. Mywife and I have begun in the book ofProverbs, and I have since found thatothers have also selected this book. Fromothers, I have heard they have begun inPsalms, or one of the gospels, or back inthe book of Joshua or Judges. Whateverseems to be best in your particular casefor the whole family-that is your decision! But the father and mother shouldselect a certain portion of the Bible asa starting point. Then, even if you haveto arrange to get up a few minutes

The GOOD NEWS

earlier each morning, the whole familyshould be seated in the living room, orsome other place, and the children betaught to sit quietly and attentivelywhile the father opens the Bible andexpounds and explains a few passages.

Perhaps you will have time for onlyone proverb! The reason I chose Proverbs is because it is literally FILLEDwith admonitions about growing in understanding, wisdom, fear of God, andmyriad scriptures on the obedience required of children.

The father should read the scripture, then rephrase it, expound it, enlargeupon it, explain it, put it in simple, easyto-understand terms, give down-to-eartheveryday examples of these principles inaction, so your children will be sure tounderstand. Ask them questions about it,have them repeat the principles back toyou.

The mother should add her bit nowand then, helping the children to understand.

Remember, this should be done inperfect HARMONY! The father shouldlead, the mother follow second, and thechildren maintain their place as God hasintended!

Then, all should kneel, and the fatherbegin a very brief oral prayer. He shouldmention the challenges of that particularday, the need of God's work, and especially pray about those things pertainingto his own personal family! The mothershould then follow his lead, adding whatever points she has thought of. Thechildren, then, should be encouraged topray-and perhaps their parents willeven have to add certain words or remind them of things during the prayerTO TEACH THEM TO PRAY! Jesus taughtHis Disciples to pray!

This does not have to be a literalHOUR in length! Usually, a family willnot have this much time! But, dependingupon the size of the family, it CERTAINLY should NEVER go less than fifteen minutes! For a family of three tofive, about fifteen to thirty minuteswould seem to be a good average.

Don't Let Circumstances Intervene!

Every temptation on the face of thisearth will come to try to keep you fromdoing this! The telephone will ring, friends will come, emergencies will arise, you will over-sleep, or something willhappen! That is Satan's way of trying tolead us off, and trying to get us to "slipup" on such a practice!

I KNOW that if every single person inGod's Church begins to DO this, as aDAILY OCCURRENCE, this wholeChurch will begin to groW-TOGETHER-much more rapidly!

Again, let me restate, I do not meanthis should substitute for your earnest,

August, 1962

daily prayer! You should do your ownpersonal praying in private, just withGod and Christ alone! However, forjust a few minutes each morning, youshould have this daily ORAL player as ahelp to your whole family!

Your family will begin to be happier! The husband and wife will begin torecognize more fully their individualresponsibilities! The children will become more attentive, more obedient! Allof these things will not happen in twodays, or even two months! But THEYWILL HAPPEN-IF YOU WILL DO as Ivery strongly exhort!

Your Responsibility to Your Children

Brethren, think for a moment! Ourlittle children, more than any otherchildren on the face of the earth, aregoing to have to shoulder tremendousresponsibilities in the beginning of themillennium!

THEY are going to be the "youngadults" who, in the physical realm, willhave to LEAD THE WORLD! The kind olworld leadership under the great familyof God that is done then, will dependlargely upon our training nf o-ur childrennow'!

Their CHARACTER, and, for that matter, WHETHER they will be in the beginning of the millenuiuui, depends Oll YOU-RIGHT NOW! They are your fruitand you are known by your fruit! Theircharacter is in your hands!

Teach your children a sense of propriety! Teach them obedience! Teachthem to do exactly what they are told todo-exactly when they are told to do ittTeach them to follow detailed, carefulinstructions! Teach them the meaningof love, of respect for authority, of deference to their elders, how to learn!

Any of you families who are blessedenough to have your children in one ofour Imperial schools-remember toteach your child, above all else, how tosit still, and how to PAY ATTENTIONhow to learn!

It is amazing how few children at theage of six have ever been taught, in alltheir lives, how to merely SIT STILL forjust a few minutes at a time!

A young child entering the first grade,at age six, who has never had to sit stillfor even a few minutes-learned to foldhis hands and pay attention to his elders-is going to be an unruly, rebellious,difficult-to-manage child in school!

All of a sudden, he will be throwntogelher with a number of other childrenhis own age, and told to sit still in a chairfor several hours a day! If he has notbeen pteviously TAUGHT to do this, athome, he cannot be expected to do it inschool!

These are just A FEW of the principles

to be considered! But they are importantones!

Don't Put It Off!

Finally, DON'T just lay this articledown, or read another article, or roll overand go to sleep-and then arise in t~e

morning having forgotten all about ~t!

To put off this morning worship hour,or to become side-tracked, and to dropit off after you have once begun, will beone of the biggest mistakes of your life!

Decide---right now-that you are going to DO this yet today-or, at the verylatest, TOMORROW MORNING! Setyour will-ask God's help!

As the apostle Paul exhorted Timothy,so I exhort you: "Follow after righteousness, Godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thouart also called, and hast professed a goodprofession before many witnesses. I givethee charge in the sight of God, whoquickeneth all things, and before ChristJesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; that thou KEEP

this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of ourLord Jesus Christl" (I Tim. 6:11-14).Do it right away-you'll always be gladyou did!

The GOOD NEWS

What PriceSalvation?

(Continued from page 1)

Others said, "I came here to be encouraged (patted on the back). I didn'tcome here to hear what is wrong withme. If they are going to talk to me thisway, I'm not coming back." In otherwords, some who did not understandthe value of their "birthright" were saying that eternal life is not worth havingto "put up with" God's ministers tellingthem of the sins that they will have toovercome before they will receive eternal life.

Whether they realize it or not, theymight as well have said they wouldrather have the lake of fire than to hearthat they weren't yet perfect-that theyhad things to overcome. They didn'twant to know the truth.

Why do you think God has given Hisministers a greater knowledge of ourweaknesses than ever before? Isn't it because the time is growing short? Isn'tthat why God's Spirit moves His ministers to "cry aloud" (Isa. 58: I)?

Are You Too Good for God'sChosen People?

Some people at the Feast becamedeeply concerned by what they sawother "babes in Christ" do-yes, thosewho did not yet know any better. Orthey became disturbed by what they sawsome totally unconverted person do.Not understanding what Christ meantwhen He said, "I will have mercy"(Matt. 9: 13), they said, "If this is anexample, I don't want any part of it."They didn't obey God's command toprove all things. They left in a "huff."Being unwise, they compared themselves with themselves, instead of withChrist Jesus-as they are commandedto do (II Cor. 10:12).

They left, thinking, "I'm better thanthese people anyway." They went awayfeeling self-satisfied, self-righteous. Theylooked at the unconverted in their midst-instead of at Christ. To them, to lookat Christ as their example, to look inthe Bible to see how to live, to look atthe fruits of God's ministers and God'speople, was too high a price to payeternal life just wasn't worth that much.It was easier to unthinkingly and unjustly criticize any and all.

These unfortunate critics let theireyes look to people instead of to God.They got their eyes on the wrong goal-just like Esau did.

11

How about you?One man who thought he was too

good for God's people was asked by aminister to help serve. He said, "No! Icame here for a vacation, not to work."

Christ Jesus isn't too great to serve. He sits at the Father's right hand dayand night, interceding for us with theFather, healing us, guiding and directing us. He thought enough of us todivest Himself of His eternal power asa member of the very God Family tocome down and serve us by dying forour sins so we would not have to paythe death penalty ourselves.

God is calling us to an eternity ofservice to Him. He is calling us to bekings and priests, to help Christ rulethe nations. He is testing us now-tosee if we will serve Him. God will notgive eternal life to anyone He can'trule.

Brethren, serving the Almighty Creator is a privilege, not merely a duty.

Signs Follow AHer You Too!

Others who have not been faithful inkeeping their second tithe borrowed tocome to the Feast last year. This yearthey have had to pay back this loan andwere unable - they thought - to savethe second tithe at all. They have said,"I guess this is a sign--God doesn't intend us to go." They fail to see it isonly a sign that they have been disobedient.

Brethren, God just does not give thatkind of a sign.

Signs follow after your obedience, not before. Gad gives you His blessingsAFTER you obey Him by paying yourfirst tithe and saving your second tithe.God gives you His blessings AFTERyou obey Him by keeping the Feast, and not before.

We live by faith and by every wordof God, not by every feeling, mood, scratching, knocking, tapping-not byANY false lying sign of Satan.

Notice God's instruction to you concerning the Feast of Tabernacles. "Sevendays shalt thou keep a solemn feastunto the LORD thy God." Where?"In the place where the LORD shallchoose" (Deut, 16:15). Not the placeyou choose, but the place THE ETERNAT. chooses,

Too Far?A few who are planning to disobey

their Creator God don't live over 150miles from the place where God haschosen to have us keep the Feast. Yetthey said, "It's too far to come." Yes, tothem the birthright isn't worth thatmuch. If they have to travel 150 milesfor eternal life-it isn't worth it to

12

them. Brethren, what sin!

Did You Obey James 5:14?A few have said, "Every time we go

to the Feast, we get sick. Until Godchanges the location to a better climate,we don't feel we ought to go back tothe Feast until something is done." Inother words, if God is going to allowthem to have a small bit of hardship toprove them as He proved Esau-theyare going to do just like Esau did-selltheir birthright, reject eternal life, fora bowl of soup.

Did you ever stop to think that perhaps you are refusing to learn the valuable lesson God wants you to learn byobeying the command in James 5:14 tocall His ministers when you or yourchildren are sick? If you could just realize it-your sickness can be transformedinto a blessing through Christ who healsyou.

When God's minister anoints you, oryour family, and prays for you and Godheals you-that is a sign-proof thatGod is Creator and Ruler-proof thatHe blesses those who obey Him.

Some others have a great big overdose of the martyr complex. They havesaid, "1 knew you would be overcrowded so we'll stay home to makeroom for the others."

God won't be pleased with that kindof idle reasoning. He COMMANDSyou to come. His hand is not so shortHe can't provide for you and for everyone else who will come.

Too Poor for God?Too many brethren have an attitude

of discouragement. They apparentlywant to go back in the woods somewhere. They say, "We're poor folks,God won't expect us to come."

Yes, He does! You are not a Christian if you wilfully refuse to come tothe Feast of Tabernacles as God commands, whether you are poor or not.Being poor-or rich-doesn't make youa Christian-only obedience to God infaith makes you a Christian.

There are hundreds of articles ofgood used clothing that have beencleaned and pressed and hung up foryou at the Feast-if you need them. Isyour pride too great? Is that your stumbling block? Is eternal life not worth itfor you to humble yourself as Christcommands you? Because you have hadsome "hard times," would you sell your"birthright" - your eternal life - forfalse pride?

Why God Commands You to Keepthe Feast

God COMMANDS you to come to

the Feast to learn His over-all purposefor you, to learn that He has set you onearth for the purpose of developingholy, righteous character - to remindyou again that you must develop HisGodlike character, for He is reproducing Himself, His character in HisChurch.

This coming Feast pictures the timewhen Christ comes and the time of thegreat ingathering harvest-which Christwants you to help Him reap. The Feastis part of your training ground.

These annual Sabbaths are a sign thatidentifies God's people (Ex. 31: 17).God will be looking down on thesemeetings to see who is there, to see whoare His people. God is very concernedwith His Feast of Tabernacles, for at theFeast will be the people that He is oneday going to use to rule the world.God's eyes arc upon YOU! You needto be there.

These nations want to unite in orderto become the "holder of the balance"-the largest political force in theworld! No one nation can trust anotherto be the head, or the unifying force. The only authority which can be lookedto by all nations in this combine is thespiritual authority uf Rume! The Catholic Church desperately wants controlof this. vast political-financial powerreservoir.

Here is where unity comes in. Germany, especially, and to a lesser extentother nations of Europe are split religiously between Catholicism, Lutheranism, etc. For the German nation as awhole to come under papal authorityas prophecy says it must-Lutheransmust unite with Catholics. A hugeMunich conference in 1%0, the 37thEucharistic World Congress, had as itsunderlying theme UNITY-gatheringthe Protestants back into the fold. Thismeeting was fully reported in ThePlain Truth mentioned above. This isthe strongest physical cause of unity. But the unseen reason is of God - astartling prophecy that is now beginning to take shape right before youreyes!

Immediately prior to that great worldupheaval, A FANTASTIC RELIGIOUSHOAX WILL GRIP THE ENTIREWESTERN HEMISPHERE! TheApostle Paul long ago warned of thisvery deception palmed off in the nameof Christ. Listen.' Speaking of the endtime, and the Second Coming of Christ,he said, "let no man deceive you by anymeans: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, andTHAT MAN OF SIN BE REVEALED,the son of perdition; who opposeth andexalteth himself above all that is calledGod, or that is worshipped; so that HEAS GOD sitterh in the temple of God,shewing himself that he is God .... Evenhim, whose coming is after the workingof Satan with ALL POWER ANDSIGNS AND LYING WONDERS"(II Thes. 2: 3-4, 9). Rome, by supernatural powers from Satan, will succeedin forcing the whole professing Christian world to accept its teachings.

The first half of the hoax was successful some 1800 years ago when Romedeceived the world into believing she isthe fint and only True Church. This isa lie! The real truth is that the oldpagan Babylonian religion forced thetrue Christians to flee, and appropriated the name of Christ.

Because the "separated brethren" allbelieve this monstrous lie, it is not aquestion of which church is first, ofwhich to return to, rather it is onlyHOW TO RETURN TO BABYLON!

God Versus CatholicismGod says man must come to the very

Salads the Year AroundHere is an article explaining how to make salads more

attractiue, more appetizing-as well as nutritious.

I N our modern society few seem to really appreciate thevalue of a good and healthful salad! To a great extentsalads have degenerated into half wilted lettuce, a feeble

slice of tomato and run-down unappetizing-looking dressing. It is the part of the meal eaten first in order to get it overand get on with the meal.

Children often dislike salads. Adults eat them because theylearned somewhere "it was good for them." This attitude neednot be so. Since fresh produce is available in markets theyear-round, salads can be enjoyed every season, provided theyare made properly.

What is Salad?Just what is a salad? The Encyclopedia Britannica describes

a salad as: "a dish originally dressed with salt, of green uncooked herbs, such as lettuce, endive, mustard, cress ... usuallyserved with a flavouring of onion, garlic or leeks, and with adressing of vinegar, oil ... " Little wonder that salads wereonce thought of as unattractive and unappetizing.

Today this same basic idea is used but it has had muchmore variety added to it! No longer are there just green, leafysalads. Now there are available various assortments of fruits, vegetables and meats. With modern transportation, the availability of salad ingredients knows no season.

Green SaladsSalads are esseiuial to good health for children and adults.

They are also easy to prepare. For a green salad there are two essential ingredients: (1)

fresh, crisp greens; (2) proper dressing. The salad can bemuch enhanced by simply varying the combinations. Theresult?-more appealing meals and the kind of health thebody needs for a youthful and active life.

The Tossed Green Salad is the most widely served of thegreen salads. Lettuce, escarole, chicory, romaine, spinach, chinese cabbage, endive, water cress and dandelion greens aresome of the more comonly used greens. Always wash thoroughly and drain. Tear into bite-size pieces (never bruisesalad greens by cutting them with a knife). Keep chilled ina covered bowl or refrigerator crisper until time to serve.Dressing may be added just before serving or at the table byeach individual.

Create your own salad by varying the kinds and amountsof greens and the garnish. Some suggestions are

lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes;escarole, pepper rings, hard-boiled eggs;endives, ripe olives, tomatoes;lettuce, radishes, pepper rings;purple cabbage, lettuce.

A hearty, well-balanced salad in meal-sized portions mayeven be used for the main course. The Chefs Salad Plate ishealthful and a delight to eat.

On a bed of crisp salad greens, arrange wedges of tomatoesand hard-boiled eggs. Place tuna or fowl in the center. Garnishwith cheese, pepper rings and green or ripe olives. Add mayonnaise dressing to caste. A recipe for making your own mayonnaise dressing appears toward the end of this article.

Vegetable SaladsVegetable salads help tremendously in making good-for

you foods into good-to-eat fashion. And by combining severalvegetables in a salad, the need for separate servings of vegetables at a meal is eliminated. This is also an excellent use forleft -over vegetables.

With gardens in full production and markets well-stockedwith vegetables, the time is ripe for trying something new.Try this:

Tomato-Green Pepper Vinaigrette2 medium tomatoes1 medium green pepper3 tablespoons cider vinegar2 tablespoons salad oil

With sharp knife, cut tomatoes into thin wedges. Removeribs and seeds from peppers and discard. Slice into thin strips.Combine tomato, pepper, vinegar, salad oil. Toss lightly. Refrigerate until serving time. Suggestion: 2 cups cooked greenbeans may be added.

If no fresh vegetables are available, canned vegetables canbe combined in tasty ways.

Beet-Carrot-Bean Salad2 cups canned diced beets, diced carrots

and green beans2 tablespoons salad oil3 tablespoons vinegar1 tablespoon mayonnaise

Drain liquid from beets and carrots. Combine drained vegetables in mixing bowl. Cook beans 10 minutes (as a safetymeasure green beans should be cooked before using). Removeliquid and add beans to beets and carrots. Toss gently. Addremaining ingredients and toss. Add salt if needed. Chill well.

Celery-Egg Salad4 cups diced celery4 hard-boiled eggs, diced1 medium green pepper (in season)

Y:2 head lettuce (medium)Salt and pepper

Combine all ingredients and ross gently. Add mayonnaiseeo taste and ross again. Tomato wedges may be used forgarnish.

Carrot SaladSoak one-half cup seeded raisins in one-fourth cup lemon

juice. When raisins arc plump, combine with 1Y:2 cups gratedcarrots. Moisten with mayonnaise or sour cream-honey dressing. Serve on lettuce bed.

Gelatine SaladsMain-dish gelatine salads make delicious meals any time

and may be prepared in advance for the Sabbath. Little effortis required in serving.

Molded Tuna2 envelopes unflavored gelatine1 cup cold water2 tablespoons lemon juice1 cup sour cream1 cup mayonnaise1 cup each minced celery and cucumber

Y4 cup each minced onion, pimiento and greenpepper

2 cans (7 ounce each) or one family-sized tunaLettuce to line salad dish

Soften gelatine in cold water and dissolve over hot water.Add lemon juice and seasonings. Mix well and cool slightly.Add sour cream and mayonnaise and blend thoroughly. Thenfold in remaining ingredients, except lettuce. Pour into a2-quart mold and chill. Unmold on a lettuce-lined dish.Serves 8.

Fruits and SaladsFruits in season, ripened in the sun, are the best as well as

most economical fruits for your fruit salads. In winter, applesand citrus fruit and pears are found fresh in the markets.Cherries and apricots appear in early summer. Then late summer brings peaches, the various melons, grapes and pears.Other Emits may be available from time to time also, depending on the locality.

Select according to freshness and, in the case of apples andpears, also according to variety. Certain varieties of thesefruits are best raw; others are better used in cooked dessertsand sauces. The fruit should be firm in order to hold its shapeduring preparation, yet ripe enough not to be sour.

Fresh bananas and canned pineapple are to be had any timeand can be used ro enliven salads made of fresh fruit in season.Dried apricots, dates, figs and raisins may also be added attimes.

Combinations of no more than four fruirs--one of whichmay be of the citrus group-make more palatable mixtures.Rather than mixing the fruits together, they may be arrangedto form what is termed a "salad plate." The pieces of prepared fruit are artistically arranged on one large platter or onindividual plates to form fans, wheels or whatever shape mayplease one's fancy. The dressing is passed at the time the saladis served.

But what if you have no fresh fruit? Then one may usecanned fruit, keeping in mind that such fruits have generallybeen sweetened and that the juice should also be used in thesalad where possible. Canned fruit is most suitable in a gelatine salad where the juice from the fruit can he mixed withthe gelatine and used as the body of the salad, not adding anyadditional sweetening. If used for a salad which requires thatthe juice be drained off, the juice should be saved and used ina gelatine dessert or in a fruit drink. Home-canned fruits areusually better than the commercially canned ones because theyare less watery and more nearly ripe.

There is one commercially canned fruit, however, which isnot acceptable just from the standpoint of its possible effecton health. This is the popular canned fruit cocktail. Asidefrom its rather high sugar content, it contains artificially colored cherries. These look pretty but are harmful. Recent studieshave revealed how food colors once thought safe and used foryears in foods have now been found unsafe, some even causing cancer. There is no certainty that any chemical food coloring is really safe even if it is labeled "U. S. certified." SomearrificiaJ colors permitted to be used in the U. S. A. are wiselyprohibited in most other countries.

For this reason we are giving you here a recipe for fruitcocktail which you can make at home and use with full confidence that your salads are not tainted with some healthdestroying chemical.

Home-Canned Fruit CocktailHere's how: Combine equal amounts of peaches and pears.

Add seedless grapes for taste and variety. Sweeten to tastewith orange blossom honey. Can and process, using boilingbath method as for peaches and pears. For a real treat use itin a fruit gelatine salad.

Home-Canned Fruit Cocktail Gelatine Salad2 tablespoons unflavored gelatine2 cups home-canned fruit cocktail with its juice1 cup fresh orange juice

Soften gelatine in orange juice. Dissolve over low heat andadd to fruit. Pour into mold. Serve on lettuce with cottagecheese, or with fruit dressing. Or it may be served as a dessert! Suggestion: Any fruit juice or nectar such as pineapple, apple, grape, or apricot may be substituted for orange juice.

Fruit salads may be supplemented with cottage cheese. Garnish a dish of cottage cheese generously with home-cannedfruit cocktail or frozen fruits or berries and melon. For a maindish fruit salad, prepare a bed of rom pieces of lettuce on aplate for each serving. With a serving of cottage cheese inthe middle, garnish generously with fruit and sliced cheeseif desired.

Oranges and apples are often basic ingredients in fruitsalads. Together they supply juiciness, crispness, and color.Fruit should be cut in neat slices, cubes, wedges or balls, using only sharp rools to avoid crushing or tearing. Use onefruit that will contrast and yet be in harmony with the coloror colors of the other fruits in the salad. Cherries (not artificially colored ones), grapes, or berries will do this very well.Chill prepared fruit before serving.

August, 1962 The GOOD NEWS 1~

Cream cheese may be combined with fruir juice to make adelightful gelatine salad. Try this one.

Cranberry Gelatine Salad2 tablespoons unflavored gelatine2 cups cranberry juice1 3-oz. package cream cheese, softened1 small can crushed pineapple

V;' cup finely chopped walnutsSoften gelatine in Y2 cup cranberry juice. Dissolve over low

heat or over boiling water. Add remaining juice. Using a fork, slowly blend crushed pineapple and cream cheese. Add gelatine mixture and nuts. Place in mold. Chill. Serve plain, withcottage cheese or a fruit dressing.

Salad DressingsA delicious dressing for fruit salads is made by using equal

parts of olive oil and honey, seasoned with lemon, lime orgrapefruit juice to taste, plus a dash of salt. Mix the oil, saltand citrus juice. Beat the honey in slowly, blending well.

Other dressing recipes have appeared in previous installments. Please refer to them for a wider choice of home-madedressings. Remember-the dressing is important.

Lemon French DressingY2 cup lemon juiceY2 cup salad oil

I teaspoon salt1 teaspoon paprika2 tablespoons sugar or honey

Combine in order. Shake well. Yield: cup.

Basic Mayonnaiseegg yolk

lei teaspoon salt

Y2 teaspoon dry mustard1 teaspoon sugar or honey1 tablespoon vinegar

11/:1 TPaspoons lemon juice (or additional vinegar)1 cup salad oil1 tablespoon boiling water

Put the egg yolk into a small mixing bowl. Mix the salt, mustard and sugar together. Add the vinegar and lemon juiceto this and stir to dissolve the sugar.

Beat the egg yolk with a rotary egg beater or electric mixeruntil it becomes a shade lighter in color and creamy in consistency. Most failures in making mayonnaise happen becausethis step was nor fully carried out.

Add a teaspoon of the vinegar mixture and beat untilmixed. Add Y2 teaspoon of the oil and beat. Repeat this untilall of the vinegar mixture is used and about y,. cup of the oil. Then the oil may be added a tablespoon at a time until another Yt-, cup has been added. After that the oil may be pouredin in a thin stream as the beating continues or added in largeramounts each time if the beating is being done by hand.

Having used all the oil, lastly add the boiling water andwhip until thoroughly mixed. Pour into a suitable jar, coverand store in a cold place. It will keep in good condition forseveral weeks.

Usually more salt than this is used in mayonnaise, but theflavor seems more pleasant if it is not so salty, especially whenthe mayonnaise is to be served as a dressing on a molded salad.Bu~ if more salt is preferred, then use Y2 teaspoon salt in thereCipp

The flavor of mayonnaise or any oil-type dressing improveson standing. It is therefore a good practice to double or triplethis recipe each time it is made.

These recipes, when properly prepared, are not only healthful. but look and taste good as well! Try them and you willfind they will add greatly to your eating pleasure and. balance

Church, Children and Confusion! Further, your child CAN'T BE HAPPYUNTIL HE IS CONTROLLED!

(Continued from page 4)

No LoopholesSome people have difficulty in be

lieving their adorable child could reallybe noisome and distracting to their fellow man. Believe me, the sweetest ofthem can be most pestiferous, when theyget out of hand, or even begin to.

None of you can use the "excuse"that your child is too young to be undercontrol. You sec, it is the infant andpreschool child that causes most of theconfusion. It is with them that this article is most specifically concerned. Nochild is roo young to be taking giantstrides in learning to obey. Peruse thechild training articles closely and youwill find this explained.

Do you look for exoneration becauseyou have many children closely spacedtogether? Does the sheer weight of theirnumber and deviltry just make it impossible to win the battle? There is nojustification in this. 1 know a man and

wife who rule their five childrenWELL! These five range in age between 16 months and seven years. Theysit or lie where their parents cell themTHE FIRST TIME. They are quiet inChurch because they've been taught tobe-it's the way they know. They arecontrolled-self-controlled now becauseof their training. Yours should be likethem. If your child squirts off on unpredictable tangents his training and hisTRAINERS are at fault!

You have all seen the parent whosmiles broadly, thrashes repeatedly, losesthe battle consistently, and attributesit all to "Little Johnny is just ahard-headed, stiff-necked Israelite." Lookclosely, for you may find link Johnnyhas a soft-headed, spineless parent whois not APPLYING the information Godhas given him.

The only conclusion is that there isjust no reason whatsoever for any childto be uncontrolled or uncontrollable!

Time-Honored ExcuseSome of you will offer none of these

excuses. Maybe you have children whosit quietly and attentively but even so,there is still another area to be explored-the rest room at Church. Many otherwise pleasant and well-behaved childrenhere find a "legitimate." "unanswerable"excuse to move around during services.

Unless there is some weakness ordisease of the urinary tract a childshould rarely need to go to the restroom during services. I know this fromexperience with my own three children. My children used to "need to go." Withtraining they soon outgrew the "need."

Don't allow your children to drinklarge amounts of liquid or eat watermelon before they come to Church. Seeto it that their needs are taken care ofjust before services and then your children should be able to sit through theservices. If they do indicate that therereally is a need to go to a rest room,YOU GO WITH THEM-don't send

16

a brother or sister. See if they were trying to get away with something and ifso, punish them for deceit, for LYING.Certainly, they should be allowed to goto a rest room if there is a real necessity.

Your questions answered in these columns! Y'our opporttlnity to have

In all of this I have NOT said youare to beat your child. We are to imitate Christ in being just and compassionate. It is not necessary to bruise orharshly treat a child in order to discipline him. You should NEVER PUNISH IN ANGER. AlwaF you should becalm, delib erate, reasonable and just. Instruct your children in a RIGHT ATTITUDE, don't just maul them for individual infractions.

It would be best to go out of themeeting hall for discipline-but notuberc outsiders mit.!' sec or hear you.DO NOT make a noisy affair of it. Ifyou properly train your children athome, there should nor be reason to

Small children may have a simpletoy to keep their attention but whenthey are on second grade level theyshould have been caught to sit quietlyand attentively without the need to beappeased by some gimmick.

Children are cncrgetic and should begiven permission to move about in anorderly manner before and after Sabbath services. I try to be a light to my unconverted husband but, since I get thewrong result, I must be doing thewrong thing. Just how should Iwork at being a light and a goodinfluence?

Some wives, when new converts, havegotten off to a bad start, in the wrongdirection. As soon as they begin to learnGod's wonderful way of life, they thinkthey must share that blessing with theirhusbands, only to find, to their utter dismay, that, no matter how persuasivethey may be, their busbsnds want noneof their religion!

When your husband comes home inthe evening, do NOT think this is yourgolden opportunity to "work on him"to try to convert him. Instead, forget your discouraging, man-wearyingschemes and be ready to be a pleasan»companion.

Do not meet him at the door with afrown and a complaint-and don't tellhim all about how much trouble thechildren have been: control the childrenduring the day so your husband willnor have to spend his first hour eachevening re-rarn ing them.

Look around you each afternoon before )lour husband arrives home fromwork and ask yourself, "Do I haveeverything in order so he will enjoycoming home to me?" If not, it wouldbe wise to correct the situation in ahurry. Do NOT make it ,c point toleave your religious literature lyingaround to try to lure him. This can upset him and make him less efficient inhis work. If he likes to read, layout hisfavorite reading matter for him, andleave your favorite reading matter inits rightful inconspicuous place.Wh,~n a wife becomes converted

and begins to really change and impro ie her wifely habits by learning andapplying God's principles-her husbandwill notice the improvement. Unconverted husbands have reported that theywere aJt01l1lded and pleased by the improvement that was so outstanding apart of their wives' new interest inreligion. This noticeable improvementof the wife makes the horne happierand sometimes leads to the conversionof the husband.

In following God's principles, andlearning to be a better wife and helper, you will develop character through yourstudy, and by your example of patienceand submission. These attributes willinfluence your husband much betterthan words.

When he asks questions, be very careful how you answer. Tell him only asmuch as he wants to know (I Peter3: 15). Notice that this scripture commands that you answer in meekness andfear - you should fear to answer improperly. Answer him briefly, clearly, and concisely; and do not go beyondanswerirrg the question he asks. If youdo not know the answer, tell him soand write to us for help.

Even if your husband never becomesinterested in serving God, you shouldbe interested in him and his workeven if such an occupation is not yournormal Interest. Remember you are hishelper for life. You can attain successby helping him to be successiu]. Encourage your husband. but do not nagat him or push him.
