Save energy by changing the filter in your furnace.  It also helps to reduce particulate matter in your home.  One source suggested that the most important thing you can do is to make sure you are not overheating your home.  Turning the thermostat down just one degree can reduce heating energy costs by 4 percent.

Music in a Great PlaceBrett Floyd, Classical Guitar

March 17, 20198:30 and 10:30 Worship Services

Brett Floyd, classical guitarist from Columbia, SC returns to WGPC to play “Triduum” by Mark Anthony Cruz throughout both morning worship services.  Triduum was commissioned by Brett and is a programmatic work based on the last three days of Christ with inspiration from the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection days of Holy Week.  Using a unique guitar tuning, extended harmonies and leitmotifs, Triduum captures the drama, pain and beauty of Holy Week.

Brett Floyd earned his bachelors in music from Indiana University, his masters in music from the University of South Carolina and he is currently ABD with his Doctorate in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of South Carolina School Of Music.

In masterclasses, Brett has worked with classical guitar greats like David Russell, Roland Dyens, Scott Tennant, Sharon Isbin, Ricardo Cobo, Bruce Holzman, Hubert Kappel, Jose Lascano, Robert Trent,  Christopher Berg, William Yelverton, Ernesto Bitetti, Lily Afshar, and others.

Over the past years, Brett's guitar duo, "The Coda Duo" (which has also appeared on WGPC’s “Music in a Great Place” series) has recorded two albums.  The Coda Duo released “Sonata Andaluz” in 2010.  This recording included world premieres of music composed and dedicated to the duo by composer Ralf Bauer and American guitarist/composer Brent McPike.  The recording received critical acclaim for the quality of the playing as well as the diversity of the material presented.     The Coda Duo’s second album, “Spaces Between” was released in 2014.  Brett and Chris won first prize in the duo division of the Brownsville Guitar Ensemble Festival and Competition and continue to record and perform across the United States.

Brett has performed and taught masterclasses in guest artist concert series at George Mason University, Indiana State University, Erskine College, Anderson University, and the Rosario Guitar Festival.  He has been twice featured on NPR’s ETV Radio and the internationally-broadcasted NPR radio program “Classical Guitar Alive.”  He has taught guitar at Indiana University, The University of South Carolina, and the Columbia Arts Academy and currently maintains a private studio of students.
