In May 2010 Wstsid Family Chrch partnrd with Hillcrst

Transitional Hosing to opn a program to hos homlss

tns. Wstsid’s agrmnt with Hillcrst was to provid th

rst year of funding, ending May 2011. In order to continue

to fnd th yoth program, Hillcrst has bn nlisting

chrchs, or individals to bcom apartmnt sponsors. each

sponsor frnishs and fnds on apartmnt at a rqird

donation of $5,000.

Th Hillcrst Yoth hom has bn fndd by IMPACT

donations, bt in 2011 donations to IMPACT wr not nogh

to continue funding beyond the rst year. However, one small

grop has stppd p to allow Wstsid Family Chrch to

bcom an apartmnt sponsor.

narly thr yars. I had two qstions that I was waiting for

God to answr. Whr wold w adopt from and what childrn

wold w fl a strong connction to. I discssd th ida of

adoption briey with my sister-in-law, but Craig and I never

rally had a srios convrsation abot it. Whn Craig and

Braxton rtrnd hom from a mission trip to Soth Africa

in Agst 2010, w ralizd God was calling s to opn or

harts and hom to mor childrn. God whisprd LOuDLY and

we were nally listening.

Th answrs to my qstions wr simpl. W both flt

a vry strong connction and passion toward th orphans in

Africa. By Sptmbr 2010, w wr fll-spd ahad with

complting th montains of adoption paprwork with or

home study agency and our international agency. We ofcially

on Octobr 28, 2010.

seventh grade. We met in the Venue on Monticello Road

on Wdnsday nights and I rmmbr long days at Camp

Srg and th insanity of th all-night ragr!

Now w hav or own room with a stag, high-tch

qipmnt and plnty of stdnts and volntrs. My frinds

and myslf ar trstd to lad othr stdnts in worship and

w ar challngd to b xampls for thm. Additionally, w

tak shortr rtrats to Arkansas and th Hyatt to ralign

orslvs with God in th midst of a bsy yar. W hav

th opportnity to go on affordabl missions trips and w’r

offrd many chancs to ngag in local missions. All of this

growth in the past couple years has made me condent in

th ladrs w hav and whr th ministry is going.

Th gratst impact on my tim in stdnt ministris has

most crtainly bn from th worship band. I joind in ighth

grade and at rst I just played keyboards, but was kindly

forcd into singing by th nd of th yar. My closst frinds

hav shard so many of my favorit mmoris with m in th

stdnt cntr and in thatr six at th Lgnds. I’v larnd

how to hav patinc with myslf, othr msicians, and

diffrnt typs of popl; I’v larnd how to gt rid of my

own prid for th sak of somthing gratr than myslf.

I hav bn blssd to go on missions trips for th past

three summers. My rst trip was to Mexico—a demanding

but completely fullling experience in the poverty-stricken

town of Croc. I practicd spaking Spanish with som

vry patint kids and fond ot I am not mant to bild

hoss. On night, or ntir grop sat on th roof of th

Yothfront bas w wr staying at, and w sang “God of

this City” in th dark with only an acostic gitar. To this

day, I cannot nam a bttr worship xprinc. Thogh I

njoy contmporary worship msic and all th talnts of th

msicians at or chrch, thr was somthing absoltly

chilling and satisfying abot stripping it all away and

haring only or voics with a hmbl, qit gitar giding

s. For m, that ntir trip was a classic cas of larning

to tak nothing for grantd. That fling of apprciation

chod throgh th night and stays with m to this day, andit ncompasss vrything I’v larnd in th last six yars

at Wstsid.

being GROW pastor so great? I get the privilege of

encouraging and empowering every member of Westside

to move from being a seeker to becoming a reproducing

follower of Jesus.

The current leader of that group identied Paul as a potential

ladr and invitd him to b a part of Discipls Mad, a pilot

disciplship program I startd. Pal has takn hg strids

in his development in the rst four months of this one-year

commitmnt. Pal is now lading his own Gt Chargd grop

and has alrady bgn to invst in a yong ladr from that

grop! eight months ago Pal was simply a blivr. H is now

th comptr in th common ara and watchd hr daghtr

sing whil hr granddaghtr Amy workd th slids on

the Online Campus (BTW, 3 generations going to church

together online, \/\/007!!!). She heard noises behind her,

trnd arond and saw 5 frinds looking ovr hr sholdr. In

minutes there was the rst service of Westside Family Church

“Dlmar Gardns Camps!!!” Doris and hr frinds dciddthy wold do this vry Snday.

Today, Doris prays daily with folks who pass by and ask

right in her room and on Sundays, gets together 15–20 people

to hddl arond a 15 inch monitor to b th chrch onlin.
