Meet the Candidates

These project include refinishing of the pools decks, purchasing additional pool furniture, obtaining Water Department approval to run the Waterscape at Kay Redden pool, painting and updating lighting at the pools. Christmas decorations at the entrance ways, adding and updating landscaping, and assisting other Board members with their projects.

I enjoy working as a neighbor with neighbors to make our community a sought after place to live. I firmly believe in treating people equally with respect for their concerns and needs, while working to insure that one of their most valuable assets, their home, grows in value and our community continues to provide a safe, friendly and healthy environment.

I ask that you attend the Annual Homeowners meeting and support me in my re-election bid to the Board.

Jerry BordicAfter serving over eight years on the Board

of Directors and the Treasurer for seven years I resigned March 2012. My resignation was because of my hip replacement surgery in March and the uncertainty about recovery and my ability to carry out my responsibilities. Happily, I’m 95% recovered and much better than before the replacement.

Travis v. KrischKeMy name is Travis V. Krischke. I currently

serve on the Westside HOA Board of Directors. My wife, Jennie, and I have lived in Westside Preserve with our two children Garrett and Emily for almost five years. We enjoy the amenities, atmosphere and quality of life that the neighborhood provides. I would like to continue serving the homeowners of Westside Preserve. Professionally I work for Absolute Software headquartered in Austin. I have also served on the HOA Modifications Committee. I believe my experience, common sense values and commitment to working in the best interest of the community qualify me for the Board. Thank you for your support.

dennis domansKiI and my wife, Dodie, have lived in Westside

Preserve for five years. Prior to moving here we resided in Franklin Tennessee where I was on the Homeowners Board of Directors for 10 of the 12 years we lived there. I currently serve on Westside Preserve’s Home Owners Board of Directors as Vice President, which I have done for the past 2 years of my 3 year term. I have worked on coordinating and planning various projects for the betterment of the neighborhood.

During my time on the Board my plan was adopted for a functional operating statement for revenue source analysis and detailed cost centers for administrative, legal, pools, landscape, storage facility, insurance and capital expense. As a result revenue source and expense elements are now clearly identified thereby significantly improving the fiscal management and budgeting process of your Association. Over the years this has contributed to increased cash reserves sufficient to meet large capital repairs to pools, other costly improvements and replacement of assets.

Main elements of my past background consist of the following;• U.S. Marine Corp Officer, active duty four

years and eight years in the reserves• MBA Graduate of the University of

Georgia• Retired from Exxon Company USA with

29 years’ service• Past President of a Community Association

in Houston• Past President of Exxon Retiree Club of

Lake HoustonI continue to have sufficient time, energy

and interest to devote to the management of the Association and request your vote so I may resume working for the benefit of the homeowners beginning in November 2012.

For The Two Available Board PositionsTwo out of the five board positions are up for election this year. The election takes place at the annual meeting which will be on Oct. 8th if we have over 500 homeowners at the meeting either in person or by proxy, or Nov.

5th if there were not enough attending the October meeting. We have three candidates running for the two board positions. They are: Jerry Bordic, Denis Domanski and Travis Krischke. At the annual meeting the candidates

will have a few minutes to present themselves before voting.

Westside Haunted Trail Committee

Westside Haunted Trail Committee needs NEW members. We are in desperate need of committee members. Without a full committee, we will NOT have a Haunted Trail this year.

COMMITTEE MEMBER MUST BE WILLING TO:• Attend ALL preparation meetings• Take on some projects• Help Set-up (1 Full Day) & Tear Down (Half Day) trail• Participate in Trail•

Once committee is set up, we will be recruiting volunteers to be in Trail. All Trail participants MUST be high school age or older.

People ask me all the time if they should use mouthwash. Most of the time my answer is to go ahead if you think it helps, but most people will be just fine if they brush twice a day for two minutes each time, and floss once a day. In my opinion, most mouthwashes aren’t going to help you that much more. Many even contain alcohol, which at first may seem good for killing germs, but it also constricts blood vessels which may not be the best thing for your gums. Some mouthwashes don’t contain alcohol, but do contain other great ingredients like Zytex which don’t just mask bad breath, but actually help break down the chemicals that cause bad breath. A well known and widely used brand is called Breath Rx, and it can be found at some drug stores and online. Personally, I just brush and floss. However, the next time

we are having a close conversation, feel free to let me know if you think I should add one more weapon to the arsenal.

1. Change ALL of your online passwords (email accounts, online banking, social networks, retail websites, etc.)

2. Check your email settings to make sure the hacker hasn’t added their address to the “forgot password” function on your account

3. Scan your computer with antivirus software

4. Delete unused online accounts and keep only the accounts you most frequently use

5. Let your contacts know that your email account was hacked

5 Steps to Take if Your Email Account is Hacked

Fly control with water bags is a solution that some restaurants, farms and homeowners have used with great success. Hanging clear plastic bags of water can completely eliminate fly problems and it seems to be growing in use.

One theory is that flies mistake the bags as spider webs. Something about the way the water bulging in a clear plastic bag causes a prism effect and confuses the flies. Who knows what flies think? Maybe they just don’t feel comfortable flying around a place that hangs up bags of water. The rounder and plumper the bag, the better the fly control. Bags that get dusty or dirty need to be cleaned or replaced or they won’t work. Some people recommend putting a few pennies in the bag, but water without the pennies seems to work.

Another theory is that houseflies are defenseless, nervous and don’t like to sit still when they see something moving nearby, because it could be a predator. Water bags act like lenses and exaggerate the movements of people and plant foliage. Just the shifting of light and dark in the water bags could be interpreted as dangerous movement. Other insects aren’t bothered as much by the bags apparently because they have different kinds of eyesight. Give it a try - it really seems to work.
