Westchester County is the heart of New York, with a variety of amazing destinations that includes grand Rockefeller properties, well-preserved 18th-century homesteads and picturesque farming villages that dot the countryside. Plus, our shows, fairs and festivals are second to none – from the annual Riverfest summertime celebration showcasing Yonkers’ redone waterfront to top productions staged throughout the year at a variety of performing arts centers.

The county offers year-round fun, but with a serious side that lets you get down to business. After all, Westchester is New York’s Intellectual Capital®, where a highly educated workforce resides and constant inspiration comes from world-renowned

colleges, universities and research centers. Here, among our variety of attractions, meeting spaces and accommodations, you can be productive and still play hard, too! Although “the city” often refers to New York, Westchester boasts “the cities” – New Rochelle, Yonkers and especially White Plains, the county’s commercial and cultural hub. They each offer their own urban vibe, with culture and nightlife in abundance. For the kid in all of us, Westchester is home to Playland, a Long Island Sound amusement park with family-friendly entertainment. At the other end of the county – and the energy spectrum – Westchester is also home to Bedford, a picturesque Colonial town set amid rolling estates with celebrity residents like Meryl Streep and Richard Gere. Here are some big attractions you’ll enjoy learning about in this Destination Guide:

Surrounded by HistoryVisit the home of Thomas Paine, father of the American Revolution, furnished with original 18th-century artifacts. Stroll among the gravestones in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the final resting place for Washington Irving,

William Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie. Imagine yourself arguing the finer points of Colonial law in the Bedford 1798 Court House. Westchester County is home to more than 200 properties on the National Register of Historic Places, and many have ties to African-American heritage and the Revolutionary War.

Chic ShoppingIn White Plains, The Westchester satisfies even the most discerning fashionista, with more than 150 upscale stores, including Neiman Marcus, Burberry, Gucci and Brooks

Brothers. Westchester’s Ridge Hill is a sophisticated outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment destination in Yonkers, and nearby, the Cross County Shopping Center offers favorites such as H&M, Macy’s and Victoria’s Secret.

Bargains sparkle at Port Chester’s Empire State Flea Market, featuring more than 150 independent merchants, including 20 full-service fine jewelers. Several other shopping destinations are located within the county, and its downtowns offer boutiques, art galleries and specialty shops. Even the rural countryside entices shoppers with antiques shops, locally owned stores, artisan products and fresh produce from roadside stands.

Water, Water EverywhereWestchester is a paddler’s paradise and boater’s bliss, bordered by the Hudson River and Long Island Sound and bisected by large, scenic lakes. George’s Island and Croton Point parks are just two of many places providing access to the Hudson, but some people prefer the ambiance of the pristine, 900-acre, three-mile-long Cross River Reservoir.

Along Long Island Sound, rent an umbrella and beach chair at Playland’s beach or cool off in the pool. The city of New Rochelle is home to the county’s second busiest park, Glen Island Park, which boasts a beautiful crescent-shaped beach.

Festivals, Fairs and FunWestchester’s calendar is packed with plenty of enticing events. The Lyndhurst Crafts Fair, Yonkers Riverfest, Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze and Frosty the Snowman Parade are just a few of the offerings throughout the year. And of course, nobody should miss Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival, an annual summer treat inspired by the environmental efforts of folk legend Pete Seeger. In the hamlet of Cortlandt Manor, beautiful ensemble music can be heard wafting from the rustic Copland House, former residence of influential composer Aaron Copland. Elsewhere, the Westchester Philharmonic and Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts enjoy an international reputation for high-quality classical music and other entertainment, while the Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck often welcomes more contemporary pop and rock stars, such as Aimee Mann and Commander Cody. Throughout the county, smaller art centers and theaters provide plenty of opportunities to enjoy quality entertainment.

Winter WonderlandWhat’s a little winter when it brings with it crisp starry nights, invigorating cross-country ski trails, hiking, snowshoeing, ice sailing or just relaxing by a warm fire with a

Revolutionary War“The Redcoats are coming!” A cry heard as patriots fought the British in Westchester. George Washington commanded the war from the Hudson Valley area, living close to the troops that would bring our nation to independence. Sense the life of a patriot as you learn about Westchester’s important role in the founding of our country.

IN THIS GUIDE, LOOK FOR THESE SYMBOLS:

DID YOU KNOW ...The prestigious Sleepy Hollow Country Club followed up its starring role in the 2010 movie The Bounty Hunter (which featured Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler splashing into one of the golf course’s water hazards) by recently serving as the setting for Beyoncé’s music video, “Best Thing I Never Had.”

own skating at a public ice rink or use those chilly months to visit the Hudson River Museum, attend a golf expo and take in a musical at the Westchester Broadway Theatre.

Stay AwhileWhether you want to rest in a castle on the Hudson or an ultra-modern hotel, Westchester can accommodate you. Bed and breakfasts, conference centers, luxury lodging and budget hotels provide just the right place to stay and play. When it’s time to work, meeting space is plentiful, including theaters, classrooms, banquet halls and hotels with business centers and wireless Internet access. Conference centers offer a chance for team-building activities, too. The Tarrytown House Estate and Conference Center, located in two 19th-century mansions on 26 acres, revolutionized the meeting industry when it opened in 1964, and today it’s still the industry-leading destination. With all of this going for it, the Smart Choice is definitely to meet, stay and play in Westchester County!

Shining the Spotlight On Your InterestsWestchester County gets rave reviews for the top-quality performances, films and fine art featured at its theaters, studios and galleries.

The Katonah Museum of Art, which has a sculpture garden, is dedicated to the visual arts, while the Neuberger Museum of Art showcases African art and contemporary and emerging artists. The Clay Art Center recently added 650 square feet of gallery space to display and sell the work of nationally recognized ceramic artists. And Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate, has Picassos, Warhols and other works by celebrated artists within a mansion surrounded by extraordinary gardens.

Many venues, such as The Arts Exchange, home to ArtsWestchester and dedicated to showcasing local artists, are available to rent for events.

The White Plains Performing Arts Center features shows that have gotten a lot of Tony Award attention, including “Lend Me a Tenor” and “The Secret Garden.” The Copland House in Cortlandt Manor,

where famed composer Aaron Copland lived for the last 30 years of his life, is now restored as a creative center for American music.

The Westchester Philharmonic delivers a scintillating schedule of classical music and pops pieces, with guest performances by such stars as violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and saxophonist Branford Marsalis. The Westchester Chamber

Symphony, formerly an orchestra, is now a full-fledged symphony. If you love listening to music outside, check out the Caramoor Center for Music & the Arts, home to well-known summer and fall music festivals featuring

classical and jazz music. The Emelin Theatre in Mamaroneck explores a little bit of everything for every taste – jazz, folk, pop, bluegrass, classical, comedy, dance and many family-friendly productions. You can also visit the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase, the largest regional performing arts center located between New York City and Canada. See a movie in style at Pelham’s Picture House, which recently reopened after a $1.1 million renovation. Enjoy venues designed

for a specific genre, such as the Axial Theatre devoted to showcasing new plays; the Jacob Burns Film Center, which brings independent films to the public, often followed by Q&As with the director and board member Janet Maslin, a former film critic for The New York Times; and the Taconic Opera, dedicated to producing three fully staged performances per year. For something a bit different,

visit the charming and teeny Union Church of Pocantico Hills – “the Rockefellers’ church” – to admire six stunning Chagall stained-glass windows plus one magnificent Matisse window.

DID YOU KNOW ...Hudson River School artist Jasper Cropsey, who lived at Ever Rest in Hastings-on-Hudson, died in anonymity in 1900, but his brilliant landscapes were rediscovered in the 1960s. His work now hangs in the White House and many museums across the country.

Happy 50th for Our ParksOur parks are celebrating a big birthday, turning 50! Westchester’s park system also happens to include more than 50 parks and recreation areas, ranging from the historic, four-acre, beaux-arts Patriots Park in Tarrytown to the wild, 4,315-acre Ward Pound Ridge Reservation.

Several serene destinations offer exceptional hikes throughout the year. Scenic Hudson Park in Irvington offers magnificent views of the Hudson River and timeless New York skyline, as well as opportunities to enjoy picnicking, paddling and bird watching. A RiverWalk is progressing along the Hudson. When completed, it will have 51.5 miles of trail; already 33 miles have been incorporated. On a scintillating summer weekend, “communing with nature” can mean bringing a picnic lunch to an outdoor

sculpture garden. A couple of acclaimed options are Kykuit, The Rockefeller Estate in Pocantico Hills, and The Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens in Purchase. Westchester is also home to a half-dozen

challenging, 18-hole golf courses. Enjoy the natural topography and steep slopes at Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers or the always intimidating water hazards and linear play at Sprain Lake Golf Course. For all sorts of family fun,

there are beaches, boat outings, kayak trails, fishing piers and a variety of private recreational facilities. Try out Grand Prix New York & Spins Bowl for thrilling bumper-to-bumper racing, or enjoy a friendly laser war inside Funfuzion at New Roc City. The Playland Amusement Park has provided family fun since 1928.

DID YOU KNOW ...The castles at Glen Island Park, reminiscent of those in Germany’s Rhineland, were constructed in the late 19th century for use as a beer garden and restaurant when the park was known as Glen Island Casino.

nature’s bounty

Locally Grown FunGet in on the fun of farm life – hay rides, petting zoos and fresh produce – while making the connection between the food on your plate and the farmland where it’s grown. As interest in sustainable agriculture and organic foods grows, it’s an ideal time to experience fun activities down on the farm in Westchester County.

At the Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture, an 80-acre, four-seasons farm in Pocantico Hills, you can explore gardens and pastures and then enjoy a meal made from the bounty you see around you. The farm serves up a variety of programs, from birding classes to speakers to children’s activities and camps.

The Hilltop Hanover Farm & Environmental Center in Yorktown Heights dedicates itself to watershed protection and agricultural education. Learn about easy-to-adopt practices such as backyard farming, rainwater harvesting and composting. Bring your own bag and visit

its farm stands offering fresh, homegrown produce, seasonal vegetables, herbs and cut flowers. Indulge in preserves, honey, apple-picking and hayrides at Stuart’s Farm in Somers, the county’s oldest working family farm, operating since 1828. Rainbeau

Ridge in Bedford Hills is known for its delicious hand-ladled goat cheese. Dream of possibilities for your own flower beds as you see the beauty and serenity of the annual and perennial plants grown at Westchester Greenhouses in Hartsdale. A county park, Muscoot Farm in Somers is home to

horses, several breeds of cows and sheep, pigs, chickens and goats. Visitors can pet some of the animals and often get to see newborns in their pens. No matter when you visit Westchester County, you’ll find we’re growing something! Whether your passions include cooking, farming or taste-testing, you’ll find something to your liking among the wide variety of tours, how-to classes and other family-friendly activities.

shopping

Retail Variety . . . And Even Valet Parking! From chic downtown shopping districts to high-end malls, Westchester lets you keep up with the latest trends while enjoying some of the finest shopping available in New York.

Hundreds of upscale stores inside the county’s two largest retail malls make White Plains a shopping mecca for high fashion: The Galleria at White Plains houses top-quality specialty stores among its four levels, while less than a mile away, The Westchester provides a world-class setting for the likes of Gucci, Nieman Marcus and Brooks Brothers. Enjoy services such as valet parking, as well as complimentary strollers and wheel chairs.

If you’re a person who believes that bigger is definitely better, the newly renovated Cross County Shopping Center, occupying a huge 1.3-million-square-foot space in Yonkers, offers an outdoor shopping experience that lets the whole family enjoy landscaped gardens while patronizing favorite retailers ranging from A|X Armani Exchange to XXI Forever.

New in Yonkers, Westchester’s Ridge Hill is a sophisticated outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment destination that has recently opened with exciting names such as Desigual, H&M, L.L. Bean and Orvis. The Empire State Flea Market in Port Chester should top any bargain-hunter’s itinerary. A year-round shopping tradition for 35 years, it features more than 150 vendors selling everything from jewelry and luggage to sports collectibles and car accessories.

A SHORT STROLL TO ANTIQUES & UNIQUES In many Westchester towns, it’s easy to park the car and browse among an eclectic mix of stores within inviting, pedestrian-friendly areas. A shopping destination for most of northern Westchester, Mount Kisco boasts boutiques galore, including the newly opened, high-end Churchills of Mount Kisco (914-666-4800, www.churchillsmountkisco.com), which showcases the latest in men’s and women’s

fashions, and Elephant’s Trunk (914-666-7666, www.elephantstrunk.com), which offers eye-catching evening gowns. If you’re looking for rare treasures, Westchester’s antiques dealers and vintage shops are the place to hunt. Tarrytown, in particular, is brimming with antiques stores.

The Barn at Sundial Farm (914-748-6058, www.sundialfarm.us) displays home and garden antiques in three historic barns and seven horse stalls. For an even funkier experience, visit Pretty Funny Vintage (914-631-3368, www.prettyfunnyvintage.com), an offbeat antiques store with two floors of home furnishings, vintage apparel, industrial elements, and more. Larchmont has an up-and-coming shopping

district that features chic boutiques. Be sure to check out Creative Trendz Design Studio (914-630-7400, www.creativetrendzdesignstudio.com), a home furnishings shop that also offers interior design services, and Stephanie’s Kloset (914-834-2144, www.stephanieskloset.com), a clothing boutique for preteens. With the wide variety of unique and enticing stores in this county, it’s easy to take a piece of Westchester home with you.

DID YOU KNOW ...Prior to the opening of I-95, the major “antiquing route” heading north out of New York City was Route 1, a.k.a. Boston Post Road. One popular stop, the Post RoadGallery, has operated on the same block in Larchmont since 1952 and still supplies fine American art and 19th-century objects to museums and collectors.

A Lively Scene On the Water and Around TownWestchester’s waterfront dining is a treat for the eyes as well as the palate. On the Hudson River, tasty options range from the Striped Bass in Tarrytown to Irvington’s Red Hat on the River, while the Yonkers Downtown Waterfront gets you hooked with stellar restaurants like the elegant X20 Xaviars on the Hudson, with breathtaking river views and wholly original New American cuisine.

Not to be outdone, terrific options over on the Long Island Sound shore include the Pier Restaurant & Tiki Bar in Rye and Dudley’s Parkview Restaurant in New Rochelle. The revitalized New Rochelle business district is also home base for The Clubhouse Grill, which is adorned with the number 42 in honor of New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera, a part owner.

In White Plains, 42 is also the name of a restaurant poised 42 stories high atop The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester. It offers an unparalleled look at Manhattan’s skyline and a commanding menu of innovative dishes plus a new Iberian tapas bar with some of the best jamon this side of the pond.

On Main Street White Plains, a new addition is Sofrito, a mecca for authentic Puerto Rican food. Singles and couples alike enjoy the bars and pubs along Mamaroneck Avenue, ranging from The Brazen Fox and Ron Blacks to Lazy Boy Saloon (do try the beer sampler) and Bob Hyland’s Sports Page Pub. For an upscale Italian dining experience, try Mulino’s of Westchester.

For a charming venue with history to spare, The Travelers Rest in Ossining has been operating since 1876. Meanwhile, one of the newest places grabbing attention is the Armonk-based Moderne Barn, whose chef is a James Beard Foundation “Best Chef” nominee.

Le Jardin du Roi in Chappaqua is a favorite local eatery for Bedford resident and Grammy-winning musician Rob Thomas. In town is a favorite hangout of the Clintons, Crabtree’s Kittle House, which houses one of the nation’s most celebrated wine centers with literally thousands of bottles. Sushi lovers will want to head for Sushi Mike’s in Dobbs Ferry to get the Out of Control Roll. And Port Chester’s acclaimed dining options include the Tarry Lodge, a product of TV personality Mario Batali and his partner Joe

Bastianich. Here, guests can enjoy fine Italian-style main courses while sampling the proprietors’ own Italian wines. As the hour grows later, sip a sorbetini at The Olde Stone Mill Restaurant, relax in the lounge at Larchmont’s

Vintage 1891 or listen to live music at Opus 465. If tequila makes you crazy, bartaco in Port Chester offers 30 different versions as well as premium margaritas to go with terrific taco dishes. In Mount Kisco, the trendiest place to meet new people is

the Village Social Kitchen & Bar. Beer fanatics will want to visit Birdsall House, which features regionally brewed craft beers, along with good food – the charcuterie is a must. Nearby the Peekskill Brewery makes its own beers, as does Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, where beer-lovers get their growlers filled with beer sold in New York’s most prestigious restaurant. The Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway is in the midst of a $40 million expansion that includes the addition of two new restaurants and 400 more electronic table games. The Raceway overall is Yonkers’ biggest private employer. And this just scratches the surface of great options for a night on the town in Westchester. Quench your appetite for fun times and drink in the atmosphere!

DID YOU KNOW ...When Tom Carvel’s ice cream truck got a flat tire in Hartsdale back in 1934, he decided to stay put and open his first shop. Today, there are more than 500 Carvel stores nationwide, including 24 shops in 17 different Westchester towns.

Whether you’re here with a bus tour, attending a family reunion or participating in a corporate retreat, you might want to have a few options available for interesting side trips. In this guide, we have drawn attention to several sites linked to travel themes such as African-American Heritage, Revolutionary War history and Gardens. In addition, we have many other options, ranging from mansion tours and outdoor adventure to shopping and antiquing. Here are a few itinerary ideas and a sampling of places to discover:

groups & tours

Everyone Can Have Some FunA family reunion, a bus trip and a corporate event all have one thing in common: the need to appeal to every member of the group. Westchester’s varied offerings are sure to please, no matter what type of group is involved or when your event takes place. Destinations such as New Roc City, Empire City at Yonkers Raceway and Playland Amusement Park, deliver plenty of fun year-round. Plan a group outing on the region’s golf courses, a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of the Hudson Valley. Cruise the Hudson River, or chart a hiking, biking or camping trip through our plentiful parks and six scenic trails. Tour gorgeous gardens or visit a historic site. If you’re more inclined to take in a play or a movie, Westchester fits the bill, with plenty of performing arts

venues. Full-service luxury spas and multiple shopping destinations let you indulge your group. In the summer, Westchester hosts one of the nation’s most prestigious outdoor music events, the Caramoor International Music Festival. Throughout the year, our calendar is full of enticing activities that celebrate the seasons. For visitors with disabilities, we have completely accessible sites and totally

helpful services at the ready. We’re here to lend a hand. No matter what the occasion, you’ll find a warm welcome in Westchester. Call us at 800-833-9282 or visit www.westchestertourism.com for all the latest information. We also have pre-planned itineraries and tours and downloadable brochures.

2. Location, location, location. No matter what setting you desire, we can offer it, from a remote hamlet to a happening city scene. As an aside, did you know that more than 55 feature films and cable TV shows have been shot here in recent years? The camera doesn’t lie!

3. Planes, trains and automobiles – whichever form of transportation you prefer, it’s easy to get here and easy to get around!

4. We have something for everyone – If variety is the spice of life, your cultural palate will be well-satisfied in Westchester. Nature lovers, night owls, music buffs, sports fans, fashionistas and foodies all get to explore what they love.

5. Leave your worries on shore and spend a day boating on the Hudson River or Long Island Sound, which both border the county.

6. Lose your head in history. The county that is home to the Legend of Sleepy Hollow is rich in historical and cultural sites to visit.

7. Follow the fairways – Westchester boasts some of the region’s best golf courses, including Saxon Woods, a favorite with the public since 1931.

8. Keep the team together for a great night on the town. Clubs, restaurants, theaters and performing arts centers keep the beat.

9. Stay busy. Our fully loaded calendar of events always has something going on.

That’s why we’re so proud to say that Westchester is definitely your

SMART CHOICE for meetings, events and group activities.

10 Reasons Why Westchester is Your Smart ChoiceWhether you’re just looking for a place to go for a small group outing or planning an event for hundreds of guests, Westchester County is the destination for you. Here are 10 reasons (among many!) to think Westchester:

meetings & events

Team BuildingTrust Us to Get Your Group Working Together Better

Think Westchester for team-building exercises that promote cooperation and communication, allowing participants to further develop their problem-solving and decision-making skills. Along with having two quarter-mile European-style tracks outdoors, Grand Prix New York in Mount Kisco combines indoor open-wheel racing with events space and conference rooms. The Cliffs, found in Valhalla, offers indoor rock climbing and fitness challenges. What better way for your group to relax than by creating their own vintage? They’ll get instruction and everything they need at Make Your Own Wine in Elmsford. LIFE The Place to Be is a 29,000-square-foot special events and entertainment center in Ardsley. Those attending a corporate meeting can enjoy breakout sessions of arcade games, laser tag and bowling. The region’s conference centers also arrange everything from adventure-based activities to indoor events. Sometimes, whether it’s a family reunion or an employee union, people just need a chance to relax in a social setting, like Emma’s Ale House in White Plains or Mulligan’s at Doral Arrowwood in Rye Brook. Whether it’s a gourmet meal or a karaoke contest, arranging an outing can improve morale and energize participants. If you want to plan your own team-building challenge, think of us as an extension of your team, providing hands-on service to ensure success. Need to charter a yacht? Want to find a comedy club that specializes in team building? Westchester makes the perfect backdrop for any type of event, and our experienced staff would love to be part of your team.

exceptional spaces

Find the Perfect Fit To Meet Your Needs A successful event depends on just the right setting – something special enough to turn a meeting from mundane to memorable.

Finding the perfect venue is never a problem in Westchester, but choosing from among the incredible variety can be. In addition to hotels and conference centers (see page 40), sites for meetings, team-building, social functions, group events, weddings and reunions are available throughout the county.

Should you hold your corporate getaway in a historic castle like Lyndhurst? Opt for dinner and dancing in The Capitol Theater? Or strap on helmets for a little racing at Grand Prix New York, which also offers break-out meeting rooms?

You can plan a reception at the Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club or dine at the venerated Blue Hill at Stone

Barns, housed in a spectacularly renovated dairy barn and serving products grown on its surrounding farms. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself dining at the same time as the owner of Stone Barn, David Rockefeller, or one of the destination’s many admirers, Martha Stewart. There are also several college towns in the county with pleasant campus-based facilities. Reid Castle at Manhattanville College in Purchase has hosted weddings, receptions

and other elegant affairs for up to 150 guess, while nearby SUNY Purchase can make lecture rooms, classrooms and recital halls available for groups large and small. These options just scratch the surface of all the interesting spaces in Westchester. Let us help you find the perfect place.

additional accommodations

A Quaint Place to Stay With an Elegant Feel If you’re looking for some of the amenities of a full-service hotel but with plenty of charm and perhaps a bit more scenery, Westchester County has a variety of top-notch inns and bed and breakfasts that offer a quiet, peaceful getaway.

Set on 14 wooded acres in the heart of horse country, the Bedford Post Inn, owned by film star Richard Gere, is Westchester’s only Relais & Chateaux property. It is an eight-room luxury inn with a yoga studio, a reflecting pool and bathrooms that have double-soaking, antique claw-foot tubs imported from Portugal. Two on-site restaurants, The Barn Restaurant and The Farmhouse, offer casual and upscale dining options, respectively.

Just a short walk to the village of Croton-on-Hudson, the Alexander Hamilton House is a bed and breakfast that sits on a cliff overlooking the Hudson River. Featuring some rooms that include a fireplace and a whirlpool tub, the lavish inn is close to historic houses, Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Kykuit, wineries and more.

Westchester County also features several motels that capitalize on convenience and comfort.

dining & banquet venues

When Your Group Works Up an AppetiteWhether you need to arrange a corporate dinner or a wedding reception, Westchester has the ideal venue.

Enjoy authentic Puerto Rican dining at Don Coqui where your group can participate in corporate team-building events, interactive cooking parties or Iron Chef competitions. Third-generation restaurateurs Jewelle and Jaleene Rodriguez showcase signature dishes carrying on their family legacy. If you and your group are looking for a quick, inexpensive bite of fresh food, look no further than Lonnie’s Fish n’ Chips, a take-out only place that serves up battered shrimp, chicken and fish, along with homemade salads and baked goods.

When the workday is over, your group can enjoy Westchester’s vibrant nightlife. Plan a pub crawl from Korova Milk Bar to Red Hat on the River; an evening over vino at The Gnarly Wine or an outing to sample fabulous cocktails such as espresso martinis from the Goldfish Oyster Bar & Restaurant. Our late-night hot spots guarantee you and your group a fun, comfortable atmosphere. Can’t decide where to go? Check out Village Social, a popular bar and restaurant that buzzes in Westchester, combining the party scene with intimate dining.

transportation

Within Easy ReachGetting to Westchester is easy, whether you’re driving, flying or arriving by bus or train. Over the past decade, the county has made a significant investment to improving its transportation network. Three interstate highways provide quick links to New York City, and public transportation is widely available.

Westchester County Airport, which was called upon to be the first airport in the nation to reopen following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, is conveniently located five miles east of the City of White Plains and approximately 30 miles north of Manhattan. The airport offers a mixture of commercial, business, charter and private flights to satisfy all clientele. Each year 1.9 million passengers travel on some 32,000 commercial flights. On a typical day around 55 commercial aircrafts depart

from Westchester Airport’s runways. The airport is one of the most active business aviation facilities in the nation, averaging more than 70,000 corporate and charter operations annually, and it is also the home to 300 light aircrafts. Metro-Northo, the commuter railroad, can whisk you from White Plains to midtown Manhattan in just 35 minutes. With 775 miles of track, Metro-North goes to 120 stations in seven counties of New York. The Hudson, The Harlem and the New Haven are the three main lines that provide passengers service on the east side of the Hudson River.

Amtrak also serves Westchester County with stops at Yonkers, New Rochelle and on Croton-on-Hudson. Look here for information on how to get here and then make your way around town.
