Wonderful Happenings at Wenty!

I had the pleasure of attending the Executive Director’s

Recognition Award ceremony last term and seeing our

wonderful P&C President Mrs Leanne Keighley receive her

most deserved award!

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S RECOGNITION AWARDS –

4 JULY 2018 - MRS LEANNE KEIGHLEY

Mrs Leanne Keighley encompasses all of the NSW

Department of Education values by her ongoing and sustained

commitment to Wentworthville Public School. Leanne is a

parent of a child with significant special needs and has had her

enrolled in our Multi Categorical support class since 2012

when her daughter started Kindergarten.

Throughout this period Leanne has served our school

community in a variety of capacities and has played a

significant role in promoting our great school and has been an

active interface and advocate for our support unit families within the school. In all her interactions Leanne

demonstrates excellence, trust, accountability, integrity, equity and service.

Leanne is currently our school’s P&C President and has served as a member of the P&C executive and

subcommittee member for 5 years.

Leanne has:

Served teachers and students as a parent helper on multiple

ensuring her daughter has access to all programs eg. Swimming

Kindergarten – PDHPE Lessons

This Term, students in Kindergarten will continue to be involved in the

mandatory subject Personal Development, Health and Physical

Education (PDHPE).

This subject prepares and supports students to lead, and contribute to, healthy, safe and meaningful lives

which promote respect, responsibility, enjoyment, inclusion and social justice for self and others.

Our focus over Semester 2 will be on Child Protection, Our Health, Medicines and Personal Safety. Lessons

will be taught in class each week for approximately 30 minutes.

Our school’s PDHPE program covers a wide range of education matter, including relationships, drug use,

human sexuality, child protection, fundamental movement skill development, safety and physical activity.

Some of the content of the program deals with sensitive issues. The school recognises this by teaching about

these issues within the context of a developmentally appropriate program and by providing information to you

about the program.

Early Stage 1 – Semester 2 will cover the following:- • Caring for your body, through nutrition and sun protection

• Feelings, needs and wants

• Personal health, nutrition and hygiene

• Body appearance, external body parts and senses

• Administration of medicine, safe use and storage

• Personal rights and responsibilities

• Water safety through safe places, play and survival strategies

• Recognising and responding to safe and unsafe situations

• Developing positive relationships and support networks

• Developing assertiveness (No Go Tell)

• Appropriate and inappropriate touching

• Safe play around the home and school
