1. Presentation Notes – Wednesday and Thursday are the Rules Presentation, you will take notes and turn them in for a grade at the beginning of class Friday, August 14th.

2. Friday, August 14th there is a quiz on the Rules presentation. This is worth 10 points.

3. Thursday, August 20th the Parent Signature sheets are due for a 5 point grade.

The Physical Education Department at Toll Middle School prides itself in the structure and athletic services we provide for all students.

We help each other, teach each other, and strive for a positive atmosphere in which all students will feel safe and comfortable to express themselves freely.

By the end of the year, the following CA State standards will have been met: Students will be competent in many movement

activities. Students will understand how and why one moves in a

variety of situations. They will use this information to enhance his or her skills.

Students will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Students will exhibit a physically active lifestyle and will understand that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenges, and self-expression.

WE ALWAYS DRESS FOR CLASS! ALWAYS! One reversible green and gold t-shirt. One pair of green shorts Both will be marked with your last name and first initial. Please do not wear undershirts. Wear “Athletic” shoes with laces. No “Toms” or Ugg”

type shoes/boots. White socks Sweatshirts – Green, white, yellow, or navy blue (solid),

with no hood. Worn under your shirt. Sweatpants – Same colors, with no writing, worn under

your shorts.

Each student is to have one lock, and one locker. No sharing! Each lock will be engraved with your locker number ALWAYS use a lock! If you do not have one, buy a new one. No backpacks or large items in the locker room. All 6th grade students leave their backpacks in their NEXT

class. GIRLS ONLY – Long lockers are for class time only, you may

not leave items after class or overnight.

DO NOT share your combination with anyone! Items are occasionally stolen!

Put your name on all of your items or belongings. Do not bring your cell phone to class, please leave it

in your hallway locker. The school, district, and teachers, and NOT

RESPONSIBLE for any lost or stolen items. Leave money and valuables in your hallway locker

and do not bring to class.

There is a Lost and Found in both the Girl’s and Boy’s locker room.

The Boy’s Lost and Found is located on the left, as you enter the locker room. It is a big, green, wooden box with the words “Lost and Found” written on it.

The Girl’s Lost and Found is located directly in front of you on the left side of the hallway. It is a bright, white, wooden box.

Please look in the Lost and Found FIRST, before coming to any teacher saying that you have lost an item.

Please do not enter any coaches office without permission from a teacher.

Please knock before entering, and ask permission to enter.

Please do not touch or use any items that are in the coaches office.

Please take care of, and respect all of the Physical Education equipment. It is not yours, you borrow it from the school.

This includes all bats, racquets, cones, paddles, mats, nets, and flags, balls, and goals.

DO NOT attempt to jump and touch/grab the basketball nets.

Use the equipment for it’s intended uses. Do not use the equipment before class time has

started. Monitors will bring it out, and it is not to be played with before class has started.

Your citizenship grade is based upon the way you behave in class, interact with your teacher, and interact with your classmates.

If you receive 5 or more tardies, you earn an automatic “U” (this is a school-wide policy and not simply a PE rule).

Your citizenship grade can be affected by your behavior in the locker room.

If you are helpful to teammates and have a positive attitude, you can raise your citizenship grade.

If you are to be excused from PE, you MUST have a note from a doctor or parent.

Parent notes giving the reason for the excuse, as well as a daytime phone number, will excuse you from ONE day of PE.

DO NOT have your parents call the nurse in the health office to be excused from PE.

Doctors notes are required for an illness or injury that lasts a week or more.

Students will still dress in their PE clothes for class, regardless of being sick or injured.

Please be on your best behavior, the locker room is crowded! Do not run in the locker room, also do not run into, or out of

the locker room. Do not stand on the benches. Do not throw any items. NO AEROSOL CANS! This includes deodorant, perfume, Axe,

body spray or any similar products. No glass containers. If you have your own athletic equipment (any ball), place it

in the PE office. We are NOT responsible for your equipment. Students are not allowed in the locker before or after their

assigned PE class.

Shut off the water after washing your hands. Throw away all trash in the available

trashcans. ALWAYS flush the toilet after using it. Please be respectful of privacy when

someone is using a restroom or in a restroom stall.

In PE, there are two opportunities to be marked Tardy on a daily basis.

1st situation: You arrive late to the PE area. You must be below the PE gate area before the 1st tardy bell.

2nd situation: You must be SITTING in your assigned squad by the 2nd tardy bell.

If you are tardy 5 times per quarter, you will earn an automatic “U”

Your grade in Physical Education will be based on 300 total points. In order to be successful, you must follow these outlined guidelines.

Being “athletic” will not ensure you a good grade in Physical Education.

Being “smart” in other classes will not ensure you a good grade in Physical Education.

You are all capable of earning an “A”! There are three parts of your grade:

100 points will be GIVEN to each student at the start of the quarter. Students will lose points based on the following violations

No PE uniform (both shirt and shorts) – 10 points Incomplete PE uniform (shirt OR shorts) – 5 points Failure to wash clothes – 5 points Chewing gum, food or drink – 5 points Wearing rings, watches, necklaces, earrings, etc. – 5 points Having a shirt, shorts, or pants under your uniform – 5 points Wearing inappropriate footwear (Uggs, Toms, heels) – 5

points Untied or sagging shorts – 5 points

You will earn points based on your performance on written tests/quizzes.

A minimum of 5 tests will be given. The test may be physical skills, written, or

performance based. They will test the overall knowledge of

specific activities.

Performance is the teacher’s evaluation of student’s ability and their daily demonstration of abilities.

Participation is both physical, and how you are involved a game, and emotional, and how you are engaged with your teammates and the physical task.

You earn points in the following ways: Daily exercises and warm-up lap Actively engaged in the daily activity Cooperation with teacher, classmates, and teammates to

provide a safe learning environment. Respect for all students, teachers, and equipment.

If you add up all the points in the above areas: Preparedness, Testing, and Participation, that will be your final grade.

We feel that a fair appraisal of student’s output in Physical Education will be measured.

Even a student with poor physical tests will be able to earn a passing grade.

Even a student with pool academic abilities will be able to earn a passing grade.
