Parent / Coach Relationship
• Both parenting & coaching are extremely difficult vocations. By establishing an understanding of each position, we are better to accept the actions of the other & provide greater benefit to the children. As parents, when your children become involved in our program, you have a right to understand what expectations are placed on our athletes. This begins with clear communication from the coach .
Communication You Should Expect from Your Child’s Coach
• Philosophy of the Coach.• Expectations the coach has for your child.• Locations & times of all practices & contests.• Team Requirements- Rules & Regulations.• Procedure should your child be injured during
participation. (Trainer)• Team Violations & Discipline that could result in
the denial of your child’s participation.
Communication Coaches Expect from Parents
• Concerns expressed directly to the coach.• Notification of any schedule conflicts well in advance.• Specific concern in regard to a coach’s philosophy
and/or expectations.
• Our athletic program continues during vacation time that occurs during the school year. Therefore, it is important that family vacations be scheduled when your child is not competing. An athlete who is absent from his/her team, during a vacation, must be prepared to accept the consequences determined by the
coach.
Coaches are Professionals
• They make good decisions based on what they believe to be the best for all athletes involved.
• Let the coaches coach, the players play, the refs ref and spectators be positive
Coaches’ Decisions
• Playing time.
• Team strategy.
• Play calling.
• Matters concerning other student – athletes.
When a Parent Conference is Needed
• To help promote a resolution of the issue.• 1. Your athlete should first talk with the coach about
his/her concerns.• 2. The parent should call to set up an appointment.• 3. If the coach cannot be reached after a reasonable
amount of time, call Mr. Curry Gallagher, A.D ext. 3710. He will arrange the appointment for you.
• 4. Please do not approach a coach before or after a contest or practice.
• 5. If the meeting with the coach does not provide a satisfactory resolution, call the Athletic Director to discuss the situation.
Please keep in mind the protocol – when you elect to pursue a concern • Make contact as follows:
• 1. Head Coach.
• 2. Athletic Director.
• 3. Principal.
Expectations of Parents
• Be positive with your son/daughter.• Do not offer excuses to them if they are not
playing. • Encourage your son/daughter to follow all
school, athletic code and team rules.• Show respect for the opposing players, coaches,
fans & officials.• Coaches rate officials• Model good behavior for your children to be
proud of.• Understand your child must lock up their
belongings
