The Dragon News Network team is made up of 5th graders recommended at the end of the year by their fourth grade teachers. We film from 7:00-7:30. The Media Center opens after we broadcast at 7:30 and remains open all day until 2:00. Please do not bring food or drink into the media center.2Media Center ProceduresCheck in: Place books that need to be returned on the counter of the circulation desk.Check out: 3rd -5th grades may have two books checked out at a time. Books are checked out for 2 weeks. You may not check out Reference Materials.Overdue Materials: You may not check out anything if you have overdue materials

Place any books that you are returning on the front counter when you enter the media center. Before you begin browsing, please grab a shelf marker off the front counter. If you are in Pre-K through 2nd grade you may check out one book at a time. 3rd-5th graders may have two books checked out at a time. You may check out books for two weeks.3Media Center ProceduresLost Books: All lost books (including textbooks) must be paid in full.Damaged Books: Some books that are damaged can be repaired and you will be fined for the repairs. If the book is damaged beyond repair, you must pay to replace the book.Charges to Student Account: You may not check out materials and report cards will not be issued until all fines are paid.

Be careful with your books. Any book that you lose or damage, you are responsible for paying to replace. Dont let your friends borrow your library books. They can check out the book once you return it. If they mess up your book while it is checked out under your name, you are still responsible for paying for it. Richmond County will hold your report card until you pay any outstanding fines you may have. They can even hold your diploma if you dont pay for lost or damaged books by the time you graduate!4Media Center RulesRespect the Library MaterialsEverything has a correct placeAlways return materials on timeDont disturb others working in the library

Be sure to always follow the rules of the media center. Respect the materials in the library, whether its the books, the computers, or even the stuffed animals on the shelf. Use shelf markers when you are looking for books. When you put books back in the wrong place, it makes them very difficult to find. Remember that everyone in the library shares these resources, so you need to make sure you return your books on time. The library is a quiet place, and you always need to use your quiet voice so that you do not disturb others who are working in the library.5

Media Center Layout

This is how our library is organized. The tall shelves are for chapter books and the shorter shelves are for non fiction books and everybody books. There are three computer look up stations in the back.6How to Find Books:Use Destiny to find the Call Number

Our card catalog system is known as Destiny. You can look up books by Keyword, Author, Title, Subject , or Series. You can also filter by AR points using the drop down box at the bottom. Remember to omit words like the, a, or an before the name of a title.7How to Find Books:

When you get your search results, check the column on the right first to see if we have any copies available. If it says No Local Copies avaiable, that means that the book is in the district but not in this library. In most cases, if it is a book you really need we can do an inter library loan in order to borrow the book from another library in the district. If the book is avaiable, look at the call number under the title. If there is an F in front of the call number it is located in the fiction section. If there is an E in front of the title, it is located in the everybody section. If the call number is numbers it is located in the non fiction section. If it says R or REF it is located in the Reference section.8

How to Find Books:The Call Number is located on the Spine of the BookF for FictionE for EverybodyREF for ReferenceNumbers for Non Fiction

The call number for all of our books is on the spine. It will say F for fiction, E for everybody, R or REF for reference, or it will give a number for non-fiction.9AR Books:

Books that have AR Tests are color coded and marked on the spine

The majority of the books that have corresponding Accelerated Reader tests are marked with a colored sticker on the spine. Each shelf has a color code key so that you can make sure you are checking out a book on your AR level.10Locations:F Books are located along the left wall in the tall shelvesBooks are sorted alphabetically by authors last nameMany books that are part of a popular series are grouped together on the back right wall

F books are located on the taller shelves on the wall where you enter. All fiction books are alphabatized by the authors last name. Our most popular series books, like Junie B. Jones are grouped together and are on the back wall with a sign marking the series. 11Locations: Nonfiction books are located in the first two rows in the center section of the media centerBooks are sorted numerically by subjectMany shelves are marked by topic

Non-fiction books are indicated with a number. They are grouped by subject. Many of the shelves are already marked by popular subject headings like snakes, sharks, drawing, cars, and cooking.12Locations: E Books (Everybody Books) are located in the last three rows in the centerBooks are sorted alphabetically by authors last nameMany books that are part of a popular series are grouped together on the center right wall

E books, or everybody books, are on the shorter shelves in the middle of the library. They are organized by the authors last name. Our most popular E Series books like Clifford, Curious George, and Bernstein Bears are on the wall just before the entrance to the castle. 13Locations: REF Books are located on the front part of the right wallYou may enjoy reference books in the media center, but they may not be checked out

Reference books are on the wall near the checkout desk. You can use them in the library, but you cannot check them out.14Check Out: Place any books you are returning on the front counter and tell Ms. Grove or Ms. Thomas your last name to check out books.

You do not need a library card to check out books. All you need to do is tell Ms. Grove or Ms. Thomas your last name an we will look up your account. If you placed your books on the check out counter when you walked in, they will be checked back in by the time you are ready to check out new books.15Well See you In the Castle!

We cant wait to see you in the Media Center! We hope you join one of our book clubs or come to a read aloud in the castle!16
