Class Subjects The subjects we will study during fourth
grade are: Religion Language Arts Science /Social Studies Math Physical Education – Mondays and Fridays Art - Tuesdays Computer - Wednesdays Music and Spanish - Thursdays Library -Friday
ReligionIn Religion we will use the We Believe book. We will learn about the Ten Commandments. The Religion tests will be open book. We will begin Family Life in the spring.
Language ArtsThis covers: reading, writing, spelling, & grammar. We will work together as a whole group, in partners, and in small groups based on many things including: interest, ability, and skills that we are learning. We especially work on using story evidence to support our essay answers. We do lots of projects in class in addition to tests.
ScienceIn Science we will study Physical, Earth and Life Sciences. We will be skipping around these areas. We will begin with the Weather Unit. We will participate in experiments. We will include vocabulary and essay questions in the tests. We will develop essay questions together.
Social StudiesIn Social Studies we will study regions and geography of the United States, state capitals, and Maryland. The students will complete a state project for each region.
MathIn Math, we will be following the Common Core curriculum developed by the Archdiocese. Fourth grade will especially focus on multi-digit multiplication, long division with one-digit divisors, equivalent fractions, adding & subtracting fractions, multiplication of fractions by whole numbers, and naming & classifying geometric figures.
Note: Teachers might not go in order of the textbook and they will also be using a wide range of resources to supplement the text and enrich learning.
Classroom Community Our classroom is a community. In our
community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.
Morning Meeting Our class rules are posted in both
classrooms and will be followed throughout the year.
Family Participation Please plan to get involved in your child’s
learning! Studies show that students are much more
successful when their families are involved with their teacher to create a team atmosphere!
