The Light of Christ Academy Family Celebrates End-of-the-Year Events!

Friday, May 29, marked the last day of the 19-20 school year in a way that none of us ever would have expected as we commenced this journey together in August. Challenges were overcome throughout the school year, but none to the extent of remote school days during the closure. I believe all of us have a much more profound appreciation today, of the brick and mortar beauty of Light of Christ Acade-my, than ever before. We remain grateful for the gen-uine partnership between home and school that de-fines the family atmosphere so unique to LCA.

Much-needed closure to the school year was the inspi-ration for the End-of-Year Holy Mass with students-in-uniform and End-of-Year LCA Parade. Last Friday, June 5, our day commenced in the same manner as a regular school day, celebrating Holy Mass, in thanksgiving for Christ and for one another. The parade of family cars followed Mass with greet-ings, congratulations on a job well-done, and good-byes by the LCA faculty and staff. Virtue certificates, final report narratives, enrollment paperwork, supply lists, and a tentative 20-21 calendar were distributed. Finally, families were invited to "zoom" through the balloon tunnel, signifying the end of the school year gone-by and with sights set on the next! We will miss you all this summer, but be assured of our prayers for you, until we meet again.

Light of Christ Academy, in partnership with St Ann Parish welcomes all parents and students to visit our school to see what makes us unique.

No child will be denied the opportunity for this wonderful Catholic education due to financial need.

Dear friends of St. Ann,

June brings so many important moments, which in these unusual times it is all the more important to recog-nize. Our students and teachers at Light of Christ Acad-emy marked the end of the school year this past week with a morning Mass and parking lot greeting. We are very proud of the work done by our students, teachers, and parents in very different circumstances to continue to grow in understanding and the pursuit of wisdom and truth. Hackett Catholic Prep will celebrate an outdoor baccalaureate and gradu-ation this coming Tuesday to honor this year’s graduates. I would like to extend my congratulations to all this year’s graduates for their hard work. May God continue to guide them all on their path.

Next weekend we will celebrate First Holy Communions. Because of the need to distance, etc., the First Com-munion class will split up between the three Masses. Receiving the Body

and Blood of Our Lord is a special moment in the life of every Christian, and the occasion of First Holy Com-munions is a graced opportunity for the rest of us to reflect on our own appreciation for this great gift. In this regard, I am so proud to be pastor of a parish where Our Lord is adored constantly and the faithful may come before Him in prayer practically any time. As we move from this period of quarantine, I am happy to see our Eucharistic Adoration schedule expand. If you are interested in being a regular adorer, please contact our chapel coordinator, Brenda Sinkowitz.

As our summer progresses and we are refreshed and renewed in this beautiful Michigan season, please also continue to pray for the full restoration of peace and renewal of our society. Recent times remind us that there is much that is broken and wounded in this poor world of ours, and many who suffer unseen sorrows. Please keep one another in prayer before the Lord and ask His Grace and Mercy for all in need.

Rev. James Richardson

RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION

Holy Communion will be distributed only under the Species of the Sacred Host. You may receive either on the tongue or in the hand. Please remove any masks and gloves as you approach the minister.

Pause at the mark on the floor, the reverence and the verbal exchange should take place 6 feet away: Bow – “The Body of Christ” – “Amen” – then step forward to receive.

If you receive in the hand, please approach the priest (or deacon or EMHC), place your right hand under your left hand creating a sort of throne upon which to receive the Lord. After receiving Jesus in your hand, step to the side, and place the Sacred Host gently in your mouth, making sure to consume the Sacred Host before stepping away. Then, simply replace your mask and return prayerfully to your seat.

If you choose to receive on the tongue please remove your mask before approaching. Bow slightly or kneel as the priest or minister elevates the Sacred Host and says “The Body of Christ.” Respond “Amen.” Then extend your tongue so that the tip of your tongue is past your bottom lip and hold it steadily there as the Sacred Host is placed on your tongue. If done while not moving one’s head or tongue while receiving, the risk of direct contact is minimized. In addition to the reverence given, kneeling also presents a more ad-vantageous angle for the priest or minister to place the Sacred Host on your tongue without contact. After receiving, replace your mask and return prayerfully to your pew.
