Who am I?

• I grew up in Tallahassee, FL

and moved to Vero Beach about 10 years ago with my husband.

• We have a nine year old boxer named Zeus and a daughter who is about to turn one.

Who am I?

• I’ve taught in Indian River County for four years – two at GMS, this is my second year at SGMS.

• I teach regular, gifted, and pre-AP World Cultures

• I am the 6th Grade Level Chair and am on the district’s EPIC committee

What is World Cultures?

• 6th Grade World Cultures covers man’s “Journey Across Time” from the Stone Age to the Modern Age. Areas of study include Mesopotamia, Egypt, China, India, Greece and Rome.

• Note taking skills, study skills, oral and written expression, map studies, and current events are emphasized throughout the program.

Our Journey Across Time textbook

• The students were issued a Journey Across Time textbook that is for their home use.

• Textbook permission slip – financially responsible if lost or damaged.

• CD option

• Online textbook can be accessed via our class website

What do the students need?

• 2 gb flashdrive• 2 composition notebooks• Pencils• Pens (blue or black ink)• Notebook paper• Cap erasers• Three holed pencil case• Colored pencils• Glue sticks• Handheld pencil sharpener

Grading Policy

• Classwork 30%• Tests 25%• Projects 20%• Alternative Assessments 15%• Homework 10% *Extra credit can be earned on tests and

projects, but no additional extra credit assignments will be given.

Late Work

Oops! Passes • The students will be given

two “oops passes” per quarter. These passes can be used to turn in a homework assignment one day late with no penalty.

• No late work accepted after

a student’s “oops passes” are used.

Projects and Absences• Projects must be turned in on

time. For each day they are late, 10 points will be deducted.

• If a student is absent, they have the same amount of days that they were absent to make up the work. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what they missed and make it up within the appropriate time frame.
