Our Trust

Star Academies is one of the country’s leading education providers, and our schools promote excellence in everything they do. In every school, the entire staff team – working in partnership with parents and the local community – is committed to nurturing today’s young people and inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.

Page 3: Welcome to Laisterdyke Leadership Academy

Our Mission

To promote a culture of educational excellence, from within a caring and secure environment enriched with the values of discipline, mutual care and respect, which extends beyond the school into the wider community.

Our Partnership

We believe that our partnership approach to working with parents plays a big part in our success.

Our commitment to pastoral care and to ensuring that every pupil gets personal attention means that parents can be assured that their child will flourish in our safe and secure learning environment.

Parents can help their child by:

✓Monitoring learning – regularly discussing learning, homework and attainment.

✓Fostering values and good character – supporting their child’s personal development

✓Supporting organisation – helping their child to be organised for success, having all the right equipment and uniform and by being in the right place at the right time every single day (100% attendance).

✓Motivating and raising aspirations – motivating their child and encouraging them to fulfil their true potential.

✓Reading – either with, to or just encouraging at home (please).

Pupils with Particular Needs

Our SENCO is Mrs Herron.

>Outstanding educational opportunities for all, regardless of prior ability, are at the heart of our mission.

>We take a personalised approach, with each pupil at the centre of a personal learning plan. This helps us to ensure that the needs of pupils with differing abilities and potential barriers are fully met.

>We have a fully qualified Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and a Governor who takes lead responsibility for special educational needs on the Governing Body.

The Year 7 Base:

>Most Year 7 lessons will take place in the ‘Year 7 Base’ – this is an area of school that only Year 7 pupils use.

>Teachers will move to the pupils.

> It is well resourced – classrooms, library, playground, entrance etc.

>For specialist lessons e.g. Science, PE, Technology, pupils will travel with the teacher to specialist spaces e.g. labs, gym, music room.

>Why? Confidence-building, teambuilding, allows close care through transition, develops a ‘family feel’ and we get to know all pupils really well and really quickly.

Homework

e invest a huge amount of time in ensuring that each child has a smooth transition to secondary school. Once they have been allocated a place with us, we work on the principle of finding out as much about a pupil as possible before they start with us so that when they do start we know them well.

Our Year 7 pupils will have weekly homework for English, Maths and Science.

This homework will be completed on online platforms of Doddle, Hegarty and Tassomai.

KS3We also offer a Homework Club after school every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

School Meals

Our Year 7 pupils will have their lunch in our new dining hall.

We offer a “cashless payment system” school, so pupils will pay for their meals using Parent Pay.

If your child receives a Free School Meal then please let us know.
