Why does the Priest kiss the altar at Mass ?
The Kiss is seen as a sign of love and respect. The practice of kissing the altar developed since the altar is regarded as a symbol of Christ abiding permanently with his Church in the unending sacrifice pleasing to the Father. The altar where the sacrifice is celebrated is a symbol of the sacrifice. Present directives from the General Instruction of the Roman Missal prescribe that the Priest presiding at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass reverence the altar with a kiss at the beginning and conclusion of the liturgy. A Note from the Administrator...
Dear friends, I’m still away on the pilgrimage trip. But I’ll be back Satur-day for sure, so I can attend the ordination of parishioner John Cruz to the diaconate. What a blessing for this parish to have one of “our own” receive this special call!!! I’m cut-ting my own words short so we can hear from him. Peace, All Good! Fr. Mike
A note from deacon candidate John Cruz Praise to the Lord and the Church of St. Margaret Mary! I am humbled with the opportunity to be able to serve my brothers and sisters in Christ. There are many of you that have seen me begin this journey long before my calling in 2010. I pray that my awakening to serve, with the grace of Holy Spirit, can only bring a greater glory to God. I thank the countless individuals within this community for continually being a major influence to my spiritual growth during the last 27 years. Of course, none of this would have happened if it wasn’t for Debbie’s love and support as well as her continued response of “Yes” to our journey…and yes, Melissa, Michelle and Monica too! It is been awhile since we have had a deacon come from our local community and so I ask for your patience and love as we grow together during this transition. Lastly, if you are not able to join me for the celebration of my ordination on Satur-day, November 21st at 9am at Sacred Heart in Rancho Cuca-monga, I ask that as I pray for each and every one of you, that you also pray for me. Peace, John
Estimados amigos:
Padre Mike
Paz, John
