Destination Overview
WEG 2018 - New York Extension
New York
New York is the most populous city in the United
States, and as a leading global city, New York exerts a
powerful influence over worldwide commerce,
finance, culture, fashion and entertainment.
Don’t be too shocked if your day of high culture turns
into a long afternoon at a downtown diner – or if your
day runs off the rails when you stumble into a gold
mine and walk out with bags of goodies you didn't
realise you needed. New York is easy that way. It’s
why visitors keep streaming in from all corners of the
globe. If you are willing to approach New York with a
combination of organization and openness, you’ll be
met with some staggering and unexpected rewards.
Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the French
government celebrating the 100th birthday of
America's Independence. The statue was designed by
a young French sculptor, Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi,
who was striving to build a statue like the great
Colossus that once stood at the Greek Island Rhodes.
The statue's face was modeled after his mother's and
the story goes that the body was modeled after a
prostitute. The steel framework was made by Gustave
Eiffel. Visitors can take the staircase inside the statue
and walk all the way up the 354 steps to the crown
from where you have a fabulous view of New York.
Empire State Building
More than any other building in the world, the Empire
State Building represents the ambition of humans to
build towers that reach for the skies. It probably is New
York's best known building and is prominent on many
postcards. At the time it was built on Fifth Avenue, the
Empire State Building broke all records and was
dubbed 'the 8th world wonder'.
Fifth Avenue
New York City’s Fifth Avenue is New York’s world
famous shopping district. The approximately 10-block
stretch of this Big Apple Avenue – from 49th to 59th
Street – is covered with stores representing some of
the world’s most magnificent designers. However, as
this very posh NYC street stretches towards Central
Park, you will also find palatial homes, grand
churches, and other historic buildings that will entice
visitors to explore every nook and cranny of Fifth
Avenue.

A block long and a block wide and just a short walk from the Hudson River in the area of
Manhattan known as the Meatpacking District, Chelsea Market has become in just fifteen years
one of the greatest indoor food halls of the world, with more than thirty-five vendors purveying
everything from soup to nuts, wine to coffee, cheese to cheesecake. Attracting 6 million national

2.00pm Walk the High Line
After disembarking the cruise we head to the High Line and stroll the High Line back to the hotel!
There’s nothing quite like spending a sunny afternoon on the High Line. NYC's only elevated park
is one of Manhattan’s most popular New York attractions, and it's easy to see why. The High Line
was formally a rail track, which went out of use in 1980. The 1.45-mile-long strip was resurrected in
2009 and turned into one of the best NYC Parks, which runs from Hudson Yards to the northern
edge of Chelsea. Today it’s an urbanite’s playground featuring lovely wildflowers, greenery
and outdoor art, while offering walkers some of the best views in NYC.
Dinner – Bar 65, The Rainbow Room
Bar SixtyFive in the iconic Rainbow Room complex is an upscale hidden gem - right above Times
Square on the 65th floor of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. With windows soaring 10-feet high and 30-mile
views to the North, West and South. This quintessential New York venue is a one-of-a-kind
experience with sensational views reopened in 2014 after extensive renovations. Tonight we
celebrate our farewell dinner at the place which was a favourite haunt of celebrities Greta
Garbo, Bette Davies and Joan Crawford!
