Fall Back Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 AM November 6th. We all get an extra hour of sleep. Hurrah!

+ World Mission Sunday +

“Mercy Changes the World” Today have a second collection for World Mission Sunday. In this Year of Mercy Pope Francis calls us to a deeper experience and understanding of God’s unconditional love and mercy. Our missionaries carry this love out into the world. We can make an effort in our daily lives – through prayer and support – to assist those men and women who are called to leave their homelands and preach the Good News. With our financial contributions to the Propagation of the Faith, we can help support the more than 1,150 dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands. Just as our young Church here received support in the 19th century from the Catholics of Europe, so too the growing churches in the Developing World also require financial help: – a gift of $15 is a week’s support of a young man in a mission seminary – a gift of $20 helps with renovation of a chapel in Fiji Islands – a gift of $40 supports a catechist in India – a gift of $100 helps with expenses for a Sister studying agriculture in Kenya If you would like more information about the work of the Propagation of the Faith go to www.fatiadny.org.

Divine Murmurs Many Minds, Many Sources; Same God

One must have spiritual strength and remain brave and cheerful in hard times. Pain and suffering are but externals; for such things it is not worth losing God’s love and the ability to smile. S. Kierkegaard * * * * * * * *

+ + + All Saints Day + + + November 1st

The obligatory holy day, commemorating all the saints in heaven, will be celebrated a week from Tuesday, with Masses as follows:

Tuesday, Oct 31st 5:30 PM (Vigil Mass)

Wednesday, Nov 1st 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, 12:15 PM. 5:30 PM, 7:00 PM (español)

+ + + All Souls Day + + + November 2nd

Although the Commemoration of all the Faithful Deceased, a week from Wednesday, is NOT an obligatory holy day on the liturgical calendar, you may still wish to participate at one of the two daily Masses: 9:00 AM or 5:30 PM. All Souls Day ENVELOPES are available at the back of the Church, on which you can fill in your deceased family names and drop it into any collection. They will be placed on the altar, and left there throughout the month of November, so we may remember them with love as a Community. May the souls of the all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen!

Yesterday, October 22nd, was the 118th anniversary of ”the canonical erection” [founding] of our parish! It provides an opportune time for all of us to pause and pray for the repose of all the souls of those many parish clergy, Religious Sisters and Brothers, and thousands of lay people who sacrificed mightily to make Holy Trinity a true model of Christian Worship, Religious Education, Community Building and charitable Outreach for the Upper West Side. We are justifiably proud of what God has done, and continues to do, among us! Happy anniversary, Trinity! What a parish!

* * * * * * * * Acolyte Training

Altar Servers Our 5 new altar servers will have their final training session this afternoon at 4:00. Kevin McKenna, Acolyte Chair and Msgr. Sandi are delighted that parents of these children are allowing their children to serve the Holy Trinity Community at the Sunday Eucharist. What a parish!

SHELTER NEWS The Homeless Shelter has been one of Holy Trinity’s longest running Outreach Program. Last year, the Shelter re-located to Ascension Church, 221 W. 107th St., to take advantage of the better sleeping area for the guests. The Ascension-Holy Trinity Shelter got off to a great start this year with more than 20 parishioners volunteering to conduct an annual cleaning and invent-tory. September saw twenty men each night; they enjoyed a wide variety of home cooked dishes, long a trademark of the Shelter. The guests were especially thankful for the welcome gift bags prepared by the Ascension Religious Education students. For more information about the shelter ministry email: [email protected]. For volunteer sign-ups, go to: http://bit.ly/shelter-signup.

CRC Reunion Holy Trinity’s CRC – Contemporary Roman Catholics – has served as an umbrella group for our various activities – spiritual, outreach, and social, and after almost twenty years is still going strong. With its spirit of collegiality – good friends, good food, good times – it has been a lynch pin in strengthening the Faith and extending Catholic service. The CRC is made up of persons of a wide range of ages and backgrounds, parishioners and beyond our borders. There will be a reunion Saturday, Nov. 26th, 6:30 PM at The Firehouse. Contact: [email protected].
