Week Three Journal Teagan Lewis 558444 Week three’s activity was ‘On Site’ (Take 1), which saw us visit the oval pavilion construction site on campus as well as four locations surrounding. Part One: The Oval Pavilion The following four photos were taken from four different locations at the Oval Pavilion constructing site. Please see Appendix 1 and 2 for site plan and photo points. Site A: Facing southeast back towards campus from the existing bleachers at the border of the western side of the construction site. From this point I noticed obvious timber framing going into the pavilion construction with support beams. Concrete foundations had been laid and masonry work was being completed. Site B: Facing south at the borderline to the oval. From this point I could see a trench being dug out with intentions for a drainage system being put in place. This idea is solidified by the presence of trench mesh. Site C: This photo was taken facing due east from the west site from the mid west point of the constructions boundary.

From  this  point  I  can  see  this  as  being  the  site  for  building  materials  to  be  kept.  Here  we  can  see  gravel  and  tips  with  excavators,  evidence  of  extensive  excavation  work.  In  the  background  is  a  heritage  building  left  intact.  There  are  also  ducts  capped  off  for  services  such  as  electrical  and  drainage.    Site  D:  Facing  due  south  from  the  mid  most  northern  point  of  the  boundary.

From  this  point  I  could  see  masonry  work,  the  flooring  laid,  timber  supports,  an  air  vent,  plywood,  white  concrete,  reinforcing  crank  bars,  an  electrical  system,  concrete  slab  and  the  builder  informed  us  of  a  pan  of  6.5m.

Part  Two:  Case  Study  Visit  Site  Please  see  Appendix  3  through  to  3  of  the  case  study  site  visitations.

Reflection  This  week’s  activity  has  allowed  a  physical  experience  into  how  building  sites  operate  and  typical  structures  and  systems  we  can  expect  to  see  and  deal  with.  I  saw  a  lot  of  masonry,  which  tied  in  with  the  learning  material  for  the  week,  as  well  as  my  glossary  term  of  masonry  the  week  before.
