Florida Standards Assessment for Reading & Writing will be
administered Monday, April 11th—Friday, April 15th for all
Ninth and 10th Grade students!
What are the Florida Standards?
Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, Florida’s schools implemented the Florida Standards
(FS) in grades K-12. These standards include the Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS) and
Mathematics Florida Standards (MAFS). The Florida Standards:
focus on thinking critically and analytically;
will help to prepare your child for success in the 21st century with the knowledge and skills
necessary for college and careers.
How are the Florida Standards be assessed? A new assessment, the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA), will be aligned to the instruction students will receive
under the Florida Standards for LAFS and MAFS. These assessments will replace FCAT 2.0 for these subject areas.
The Florida Standards Assessments will:
assess students’ higher order thinking skills in keeping with the higher expectations of the Florida Standards;
assess students through computer-based testing in grades 5-11 and with “paper and pencil” tests for students in
grades
On Test Day
Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a healthy breakfast Many teachers report that students who don't do well on tests haven't gotten enough sleep, and haven't eaten break-
fast on the morning of the test. Doing both of these things will ensure that your child is working at full capacity
Make sure your child is prepared Some schools may supply the tools your child needs for the test, such as pencils, an eraser, paper, and a calculator.
Also, check to see whether you child will be able to make up the test if she is sick on test day
Remain positive
Staying calm will help your child stay calm. If she gets nervous about the test or is likely to experience anxiety dur-
ing the test, help her practice some relaxation techniques that she can try once she's taking the test.
