Dear Parents/Caregivers,

As we approach the end of another busy Term we are finalising reports which will go home next week. All students who attended Scenic World from Stage One and Two had a wonderful time in the Blue Mountains. The day was sunny and not too cold so the students had a clear view of the three sisters and enjoyed their day. A huge thank you goes to Miss Dunn who organised the excursion for over 160 students and staff. Over the past Term you would have received a permission to publish form that outlines the use of photos in our regular school communications such as the newsletter and our Facebook page. Without this permission we cannot display any photos of your child at carnivals, parades, activities, assemblies and fun days. We always ensure appropriate use of our photos and require these forms to be completed and held at school with your approval. Week 9 Term 2 2018

STAGE PAGE

This Term in mathmatics, 1A have enjoyed working together to trace around their shoes, colour them in and then find the area using cubes. They then discussed which shoe had the biggest area and the smallest area in our class.

3/4P

1A

3/4P have been getting ‘hands on’ this Term with the great seed saving event after the pumpkin carving and Reconciliation Week. Firstly, we learnt about saving pumpkin seeds. Then we had to find the seeds in the goop. It was lots of fun! Once we had the seeds, we washed and dried them ready for next year.

KLA KAPERS

Reconciliation Week Week 5 was Reconciliation Week and 3/4P celebrated by creating an Aboriginal inspired artwork. The theme for 2018 was “Don’t Keep History a Mystery’ and so we learned about the term ‘terra nullius’ which is a Latin phrase meaning ‘nobody’s land’.

What’s happening in Science? What’s happening in Science I hear you ask? Well it would be easier to say what’s not happening in Science? As all the Stages had been investigating different types of lifecycles in Term One.

For Kindy it was all about animals, with particular attention to pets, similarly in Stage One, it was mealworms that were the main focus (and they even managed to slow the growth of a select few). For Stage Two it was growing snow peas and for Stage Three it was micro-organisms like yeast and viruses. This meant that the science room resembled a plant nursery, a farm, a lab and a bakery at the same time!

In Term Two, Kindy has been investigating the properties of everyday things to find out what they are made of? Similarly, Stage Two are also looking at the properties of materials but in much greater detail. Stages One and Three are exploring everyday mixtures and physical and chemical changes respectively.

We even had a visit from “The Radical Recyclers” who taught us all about recycling in a fun and entertaining way!

And just to round out the Term a special mention has to go out to Ms Perkins and her amazing crew of ‘green thumbs’ (3/4P) for their solid performance in growing a 46.7kg Atlantic pumpkin!

Well done team.

Week 9 Term 2 2018

SRC News The SRC would like to thank everyone for their support for our Biggest Morning Tea held earlier this term. It was great to see so many students wear yellow and support the Cancer Council. We raised a total of $232! Well done! Next Term SRC members will be selling handballs for $3. More information will come at the beginning of next Term. We also have some more great ideas in the works, so keep posted.

Chicks in Kindergarten During Weeks 7 and 8, Kindergarten was lucky enough to receive some hen eggs as a part of their farm unit. Kindergarten got to see the transformation of an egg into a chick and have spent some time getting to know the little chicks very well. We would like the thank Mrs Wilson for all her help in organising the chicks for the Kindergarten classrooms.

Week 9 Term 2 2018

Pen Licence

A big congratulations to the first Year Four students of 2018 for achieving their Pen Licence.

COMMUNITY

Farm Visit

Earlier this term, Kindergarten went on their first excursion for the year to Camsley Hill City Farm. For some children it was their first time travelling on a bus and visiting a farm. It was a fantastic day with opportunities to see and pat lots of farm animals as well as milk a cow. We also saw a farmer cracking his whip, sheering and mustering sheep. The children were well behaved and made Noumea proud.

Mufti Day On Thursday 28 June, we are asking students to come to school in mufti to help us raise funds for OzHarvest.

OzHarvest visits our school every week donating lunches, snacks and fruit for our students. They also provide food for our Breakfast Club.

We are asking students to come to school dressed in yellow or black clothing as these are the colours of OzHarvest’s logo. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation on the day.
