TERM 4 WEEK 08 29 NOVEMBER 2016
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Greetings to all of the OVPS community. We are now in the third last
week of term. Yes, that’s right, there are still two and a half weeks of
learning left! The good news for all our keen learners is that we only take a
short break over Christmas - about 5 weeks give or take - before we return
for school in 2017.
Speaking of the new year, planning is well
underway with the final touches being put on
our staffing arrangements. We are now working
on forming classes for next year in order to be
organised for student learning from the very
first day. This week, however, we are still firmly
focussed on the present. Today we witnessed
the captains speeches by those students vying
for the top student leadership job. We saw some
wonderful young leaders put forward their
reasons why they should lead the student body
and I was most impressed with their
commitment to the school.
Production of student reports is underway and these are currently being
proofed. Reports will be distributed in the last week of term so please be
aware that school runs as normal right up until the last day (Friday 16
December).
Finally, I just wanted to thank the P&C for their efforts in supporting our
school. Last week’s P&C meeting was very well attended and productive.
We organised the 2017 fund raising calendar and there look to be plenty of
opportunities to assist the P&C with these activities. I hope you all enjoy
your week.

“THE BEST YEAR 2 SLEEPOVER”
The 2016 Year 2 sleepover was awesome! We played
games, ate dinner together, watched a movie and got to
sleep in the library! The greatest part was watching the
movies and gulping scrumptious popcorn. The
best activity was the treasure hunt. We got into teams
and had to follow the clues to find the treasure! Then
we had to solve our team's mystery word! Our word
was Integrity. It was hilarious when we played celebrity
head and one of the kids was Mr Norman. It was the
best sleepover we've ever had!

BUDDING ENGINEERS SET A RECORD
Last Friday, a group of engineering
students from the University of New
South Wales called ’Engineers
Without Borders’ visited our school
and worked with our Stage 3 students
to design and build engineering
models. The students were set the
task of building a floating house
suitable for living in on a lake in
Cambodia.
The models were built and tested with the house build by
Levi Bourne, Liam McKillop, John Renton and Jai
Thompson holding 180 marbles while remaining afloat and
setting a record for the engineering student’s trip around
northern NSW!
TALENT ON SHOW FOR CHRISTMAS
Oxley Vale Public School’s always excellent Christmas
concert is being held on Monday 12 December from
2:15pm in the school hall. This great event showcases the
creative side of our students, entertaining with a mix of song,
instrumentation and dance, and featuring traditional
Christmas carols and newer holiday songs.
Parents are warmly invited to join us as we sing in the festive
season.
LIBRARY CLOSED FROM WEEK 9
The school library will be closed from next week (Week 9)
and all borrowed books need to be returned. Please check at
home, in school and library bags, etc., for any books from our
library and see that they are returned as soon as possible.
Thank you.
‘KITTENS’, POEMS BY EMMIE MCCULLOUGH
Kittens are a ball of fluff
If it’s milk they want, it’s milk they’ll get
Kittens are playful and rough
If it comes to toys, they will play all day
Kittens are cuddly and cute
Kittens will always have their way
There are lots of kitten movies - like Puss in Boots
Kittens like scratching and biting
Kittens smell like chocolate that has just been unwrapped
Kittens feel like the sun shining on the stars
Kittens move like horses galloping
Kittens look like a cute cuddly ball of fur.

“VOTE FOR ME, #1”
Today, the elected
representatives of the
School Representative
Council (SRC) made their
speeches to Years 3-5,
presenting the reasons
they believed they would
make a good school captain.
After some very good speeches, the captains and vice-
captains for 2017 will be announced on Presentation Night.

THE VIEW FROM THE SIDELINE RETURN OF SPORTS GEAR
Mr Steele would like the return of all school
rugby league jerseys to him as soon as
possible, please. All school sports equipment
needs to be accounted for and stored before the school
holidays, so if you have uniforms, balls, or equipment at
home that belongs to the school can you please return it.
