Bushfire Sunrise - Lakkita Year 10
OPPORTUNITY INNOVATION SUCCESS
This week has been another busy one, with a couple of highlights including our Year 10 Information Evening last week and our second Open Day on Monday afternoon. Our teachers and executive were very pleased with the large number of students, parents and carers engaging with our Year 10 Information Evening last Tuesday night. As students move into Stage 6 (Years 11 and 12) there are many new rules and requirements that students need to understand to ensure their success as seniors and this night is a great introduction. Our teachers enjoyed being there to share their own knoweldge and love of their subject areas with students and families. Thank you to all who attended. Year 10 students are now having interviews with Mrs Thomas to guide them into the best subject choices for Year 11 2022.
We had another large group of prospective students and families attend our
second Open Day on Monday this week. Mrs Hawken and Mrs Khalid were
pleased to lead a tour of the school and, as always, our guests were very
pleased and somewhat surprised with the school environment, our facilities
and the programs we are running.

In Science lessons this week, IO/IS students tested the permeability of different types of soil to determine which soil is good for our garden and plants. They had a great time and worked collaboratively, helping each other through the lesson.
Year 11 hospitality students developed their knife skills while making Thai Chicken Salad and Thai Beef
Salad. It was delicious and the large number of teachers who ordered their lunch were very pleased with the
outstanding quality.
Our IO/IS and MC3 classes had a fantastic time at bowling on Friday.

Maths matters! In the Support Unit teachers are always looking for new ways to create engaging lessons for a
diverse range of learning styles. This recently included using the staff carpark to plot a graph based off data
linked to the colours of staff cars. Bowen cleverly used maths symbols in his whiteboard art in honour of
World Maths Day while students in the IO/IS class used pegs and spoons to assist with counting and fine
motor skills.
This week’s assembly gave us the opportunity to reward more fabulous students. Congratulations to all those
people who received an award this week.
Cooper, Cassidy, Desmand, Joel, Keely and Liam all received a HSIE Faculty Award for working well in their HSIE courses. Well Done!
Because HSIE were handing out this week’s Faculty Awards, Mrs West and Mr Feau dressed up
appropriately to hand out this week’s Vivo awards!

We look forward to another fabulous week ahead at Windsor High. We would like to thank all our wonderful
students who turn up to school each day ready to learn, with a great attitude and respect for themselves,
others and their school. You people are what makes our school a great place to be.

Term 2 in the HSIE Faculty has seen classes stepping back into the past to experience – ‘History in the
Making’!
Roleplaying Ancient Egypt! Ms Mooney’s 7A History class used ‘experiential learning’ to investigate and understand the life and culture of
people from the past. As part of our study of Ancient Egypt, we mummified the great Pharaoh ‘Heidi’ in order
to prepare her for the journey to the Afterlife! Using the ancient texts of Herodotus, we went step-by-step
through the embalming process. Check out our amazing actors… Fatheh our Overseer, Jeremy & Romeo our
Anubis Guards, and Tyler our Master Embalmer showing Jhye the Apprentice Embalmer how to perform each
sacred step. Rebecca and Amelia were outstanding Assistant Embalmers who would examine all the ancient
equipment and deliver the required item for each step, which was read aloud by the great Scribe – Natasha!
Step 8 – wrapping the body in linen strips was definitely the most exciting and challenging part. But the most
symbolic step was when the crook & flail were placed across the Pharaohs chest, followed by the famous
Death Mask which was positioned over her head, ensuring everyone in the Afterlife would know she was a
great ruler!

ANCIENT WORLD TREASURES!
Students in Year 7 & 8 have created some absolutely amazing treasures for their ‘Ancient Worlds’ and ‘Viking Era’ projects! With a choice between creating a model of an Ancient or Viking artefact, producing a poster comparing two Great Leaders of the ancient past, OR a design task such as creating an Ancient Boardgame, Battle Plan or Viking Feast – students definitely demonstrated great flair and creativity!
Check out just a few of these amazing examples!

The finished products are also accompanied by a museum label outlining what the project was, how it was used in the past and a comparison to similar examples from the modern age.
And these amazing treasures will become the starring attraction at a very special event…
So, if you are in Year 7 or Year 8 – save the date for this special event, on Friday 23rd July (Term 3, Week 2 ). The evening will be held in the School Hall, and will begin with a display of amazing ‘Night at the Museum’ themed projects created by students in subjects across the school – Tribal Masks from CAPA, Digital Tech projects where students created and coded their very own ‘Night at the Museum’ themed computer games, as well as models from Science, and of course the Ancient and Medieval artefacts from our History classes!
This will be followed by a screening of the hilarious film “Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb”, starring
Ben Stiller and Rebel Wilson. Enjoy some popcorn and other delicious treats from our Hospitality classes, and
perhaps even win a ‘Lucky Door Prize’ or ‘Best Dressed Historical figure/character’ for those who decide to
join the HSIE Staff who will be dressing up for the occasion!

U/15’s Boys Basketball Report Congratulations to the U/15s Boys Basketball team who won their first knockout game against Colo High School last Thursday. Many of these players had competed in the opens team earlier in the year, highlighting their skill and willingness to compete against players much older and bigger than them. The group was then completed by a few new faces who seamlessly fit into the team. The Windsor boys started the game well, taking an early lead. It was great to see them work so well together as a team and focus on their defensive structure to maintain their advantage. This collaboration soon paid off as they soaked up pressure before countering and adding more points to their tally. Excellent contributions from the bench meant that the energy and discipline was maintained throughout both halves. Windsor ran out 28-18 winners, having never been behind the entire game. I am proud of the boys’ efforts, and they should be too. Next round: Richmond! Mr Archer

COVID-19 Restrictions
COVID-19 restrictions remain in place at Windsor High School, as advised by NSW Health. Students have been reminded of these during assembly. Students should stay with only students in their own cohort, including in the playground. Parents and caregivers should be aware that any student who has flu-like symptoms is required to be tested for COVID-19 and the results of the test must be provided before the student can return to school. NSW Health may notify patients by sending two SMS texts - one has the name of the patient, the other has the result outcome. Both SMS’s need to be screen shot and sent to the school as proof. If a student returns to school without proof of the results being provided, parents will be rung and they will be sent home as required by NSW Health. Sick students should be kept home if they have flu-like symptoms. Enhanced cleaning continues to happen during the school day and hygiene practices are followed on a daily basis.
