From the Principal’s Desk Athletics Carnival Our staff and students are super excited to participate in our annual school Athletics Carnival tomorrow. Please remember the forecast is another cold morning, so make sure you send your child with appropriate, warm clothing to ensure they are protected from the cold conditions as best as possible. Remember to check the information note that has been sent home regarding arrival times for those students wanting to participate in specified events that start early. Our wonderful P&C will have a canteen operating with some tea, coffee, snacks and hot food. If there are any parents who are willing to lend a hand in the canteen while attending the carnival, call in and offer your support, I know it will be appreciated by our regular volunteers. Eco Rangers - Waste Audit & Council Visit Our Eco Rangers program is well and truly underway and next week, all of our students will be participating in a school waste audit. This process is part of the data gathering phase to look at our school waste and see how we can improve our practices to support our environment. Students will visit the waste audit site in the hall and sort rubbish using safe procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE). Waste will be categorised, weighed and used as an educational process to teach students about effective waste management. This will then drive the next phase of the program with all classrooms having new bin systems installed to improve our waste management processes. We will also have a Liverpool Plains Shire Council representative visiting the school on Monday to speak with our students about the importance of waste management. Reports Semester 1 reports will be sent home with all students next week. These reports provide families with information about how their child is performing at school, social skills, work habits and possible areas for further development. We encourage parents/carers to get in touch with their child's teacher if they have any concerns about student reports or wish to discuss how they can support their child's learning in the home environment. We will also be seeking feedback from parents about our new reporting format in Term 3 as we aim to provide a report that is easy to read, informative and reflective of your child's progress. Mr John Ireland Principal Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition Last Wednesday, Quirindi Public School had the fantastic opportunity to host the zone finals of the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. A number of students and teachers had the privilege of watching some very talented young speakers from surrounding local schools, including our very own Oliver Frith, Stella Brown and Isaac Uptin. They all spoke with confidence and can be very proud of themselves. Oliver Frith was awarded highly commended in the Year 3/4 division. Well done to all.

Parent advice of requirement for COVID-19 test for your child Please remember students and staff with flu-like symptoms will need to be tested and return a negative COVID-19 test result and be symptom-free before being permitted to return to school. Students who do not undertake a COVID-19 test will not be permitted to return to school for a 10-day period. Additionally, they must be symptom-free for at least 3 days prior to returning to school. Students who have seasonal allergic rhinitis or another condition that presents similarly to flu-like symptoms are still required to get tested for COVID-19 and return a negative test result. Where their symptoms continue beyond 10 days, students should provide documentation from their GP confirming their symptoms are typical for their condition. If the student develops new or changed symptoms, they should get tested for COVID-19. Find more information about COVID-19 symptomsExternal link.

PBL Extra Time Wonderful to see our students have once again filled the CARES boxes up so yesterday they received their reward of extra time on the playground. Was wonderful to see the students enjoying this extra time.

Regional Cross Country A massive congratulations to all students who competed at Regional Cross Country in Coolah last week. We all know how cold it was, but for these students to compete in 3 degrees with the rain and wind really was a mammoth effort by all! Overall Quirindi Zone performed really well. A huge congratulations to the following students who secured themselves a spot on the North West team to compete at the State Carnival in Sydney next term. Well done to: Amelia Williams Siena Gilchrist Charlotte Williams Heidi Owen Charlotte Barnett There were several students who finished in the top ten (and not far off top 10) with Finn Davis coming in as 1st reserve for 10yr Boys. What a wonderful result for our school. All students should be very proud. Jennifer Alcorn - Sports coordinator

Athletics Carnival Our School Athletics Carnival is being held tomorrow, Friday 18 June 2021, starting with the 800 metre races at 8:50am. If your child has nominated for these events please ensure they arrive by 8:40am. The back up day for the carnival is Friday 25 June 2021. School buses will drop off and pick up students that normally catch the bus. If students go to school by any another means families will need to get themselves there. A new event – 1500metres (3.75 laps) has been added to the program. This event will be at the end of the day. All Year 2 students will attend the athletics carnival in the morning to participate in the age race and novelties. Then the children will return to school on a bus unless they have nominated to remain at the carnival. We still require parents to assist the effective running of the carnival. If you are able to help please return the parent helper slip, which was sent home previously. Thank you, Jennifer Alcorn, Athletics Carnival Coordinator
