School Attendance Policy
As of this year there are new guidelines that give principals the ability to grant exemption
regarding absence from school. Duri School has an outstanding attendance record that is
above both Regional and State levels. This new policy will enable us to achieve even
better attendance levels.
Up until now, when students were away from school because of holidays or exceptional
domestic circumstances, they were considered absent and these days not in attendance at
school were recorded as such.
HOWEVER
Principals are now able to grant exemptions due to:
• Exceptional domestic circumstances, including but not limited to participation in
family holidays during school term subject to being satisfied that this is in the best
educational interests of the child.
• Other exceptional circumstances such as health of the student where sick leave or
alternative enrolment is not appropriate.
To be granted an exemption you must fill in an “Application for Exemption from Attendance
at School” BEFORE your child is going to be away. Applications after you return from
your family holiday (for example) cannot be granted.
If you are going to be away please contact the school and Wendy will send an application
home to be filled in and returned to the school.
It is certainly worth applying for an exemption because your child’s school attendance
record has to be included on each Semester’s School Report.
Many of our absences at Duri are due to family holidays or the child participating in sporting
events not related to school. As I said earlier, if these can be exempted our attendance rates
at Duri will be even more outstanding.

able to go with Mrs Cantrill to the conservatorium a week before the exam and have a
practice on the grand piano in the chapel which was a great experience and lots of fun!
